Warnings on cigarettes, alcohol, firearm ammunition,food products, plastic bags for christ's sake. they think that we don't have the common sense to know these thing. And every so often some poor soul proves them right. Go figure.
I will have to disagree with you on messages on cigarettes. It supposed to make you think before doing.
Imagine youre driving a car without your seat belt on. All of the sudden you see a huge poster showing a car wreck with the driver squashed on a tree becouse he didnt have his seatbelt on. At that moment, when you would notice that poster, wouldnt you fasten your seat belt?
The messages on the cigarettes is an other example of the government trying to coddle us from birth to grave. I believe they know it has no value, it just make them feel good because they "care" ~ yeah, right!

They do those messages mainly to look like they're doing something with your money, and also to make you feel bad about doing it, which doesn't work because people hate being talked down to.
