  • Hyacinth is so much like my mother it's scary. They even answer the phone the same and my mother makes the same faces when we visit her less than desirable family. My father says he's always felt like Richard. God bless him.

  • @ItsCheyenneBrown Man that's sad... :-) Your father must be a saint...

  • This series cracks me up! I love when Hyacinth goes, "Mm?" & then says something completely absurd. I didn't really like her up til the ep where she kicks the lout's butt at the golfcourse... now I love her! I wish I could be as tough as her & give ppl their marching orders but I'm more like Elizabeth unfortunately. I used to know someone just like Hyacinth, she made my blood boil! I feel sorry for Sheridan, his mother's sending him a lot of bad karma with all her unmerited bragging!

  • "Richard's had it installed to protect me from anyone desperate." LMAO!!!!!!

  • love dis show....

  • she would drive me crazy xD

  • Just found this show on PBS the other night and I love it! Thanks for posting!

  • I'm glad i found my favorite show Hyacinth reminds me a bit like me and some of my relatives is so funny, poor Richard always so pasive, i would have giving up on her long time ago if i was Richard........lol

  • did he do x35 with the woman?

  • I would love to actualy see one of Hyacinth's candle light suppers. I bet it would be hilarious!!!! Especially with the Major chasing her all over the place lol

  • "You met her once at one of my candlelight suppers... what do you mean you couldn't see anybody?". lmao

  • I would be totally exhausted trying to keep up the social pretense exhibited by Hyacinth. She is quite a trouper!

  • lol im always rolling on the floor dying of laughter when he chases her out of the green house and she runs off

  • Wow, so in love with the ideal of class that she'd let that Major try something without bopping him in his grabby little face. Ugh, he creeps me out.

  • She treats Elisabeth as her servant....!

  • in this day and age of violance and high tech, this is so refreshingly FUNNY.

  • its always my fav.

  • Wow, go Hyacinth, you sexy minx ^^

I couldn't breathe for several seconds while Hyacinth and the Major played cat-and-mouse in the conservatory.

  • omg...@ 7:48 i was on the floor laughing hahaha

  • This show kicks ass, or as they say in the UK, "arse".

  • I wonder what Hyacinth was like when she was younger; so very willing of allowances if people are of a particular rank. I did feel a little bad for her though. Wish she had bopped that major one in the nose!

  • All right! =)

  • i love dis show

  • I wonder what Sheradon (not sure if I spelt that right :p) would of looked like if they ever showed him. :p

  • lol, I wanna see when Richard and Hyacinth were dating - what on earth possessed him to marry her?!

  • @monuorah

I've always thought she made him marry her.

  • He said on one of the shows something about "you can never tell who you'll fall in love with" and I think that answers the question. For whatever reason - he loves her.

  • I bet Harold Snoad was pleased to see his name get the royal treatment at 9:40! :P

  • Absolutely excellent Britsh comedy. A woman that in a way feels inadequate and has to put on a show so that people notice her. But a woman that always puts herself in an embarrassing situation. I have actually met people like 'Hyacinth', and the character is true to life. This kind of comedy is very clever as such is Dad's Army, and 'Allo ' Allo. Remember Butterflies? Geoffrey Palmer? What a super actor. British comedy is wonderful isn't it. As the airmen say on Armstomg & Miller, isn't it?

  • Great show!!!! British Humor KICKS ASS

  • why does richard like the bucket ??? XD

  • Are you being served, Keeping up appearances, and Mr. Bean. Three of the best British comedies from channel 8, PBS/BBC ever. I've watched all three since I was a kid too. =]

  • @Marebear2406

    Another great comedy is Blackadder

  • onslow and richard are the best. she's funny in an annoying way. Luv this program and have watched it in the US as a teenager on pbs 5 10 years ago. If not for public broadcasting, forget it. we'd be so much less informed in the world. bbc, etc. Cant thank you enough. Really pleased great stuff

  • I have watched every episode many times on disc, but think that Richard only really yelled at her REALLY once.,,..the phone box incident, please someone correct me if I am wrong,....

  • thats the only one I remember, and she was worse off afterward, so I guess he learned there is no point.

  • You are so right Betty, only once, the phonebooth incident and it brought the house down!!!

  • Onslow kicks ass

  • YEAH! thank you. Onslows' the man haha

  • another good Brit show is On the Buses from the early 1970's. Check it out youtubers.

  • I love British show's but buy the time we get to see programs, the 20 or more years old. I have a friend on your side of the pond, he was going to record me some, out vcr's are different and they wont play' Thanks to you tube I can see lot's of great stuff

  • It's great to see that Americans love British shows and films !.We have produced some great films and shows here in the U.K.

  • BEFORE YouTube, you would not BELIEVE how many of we Americans could not wait until Saturday nite for P.B.S. so that we too, could enjoy the britcoms, by the time youtube came along I had been watching are you being served for 20 plus years on the pbs channel...other shows I have found since are never ending! Tonight I found one called the Royal Family?? that was funny also I LOVE Last of the Summer Wine!!!! my mom always raved about the Pythons flying circus and benny hill, now I know why....

  • @BETTYPRO40 oh no kidding! I use to have to wait forever to just watch an episode! and usually it was a rerun that they showed the week before but i didnt care!

  • @BETTYPRO40 lol yeah when i was younger i stayed up with my mom every night after some talk show for this show and we would laugh our asses off.

  • @Bethfromwigan WE DONT HAVE ANYTHING NEAR THIS IN AMERICA MY FAV SHOWS ARE BRITISH SITCOMS

  • "Is your electric as clean as it was, do you think?....my, it's sometimes hard to clean...it goes to some very funny families, would you have mine checked to make quite sure I get it first...I won't have it if it's been already to some of those other places!

(How does one "clean" electricity??) LOL!

  • "I will not have electric men brushing against my walls" XD

  • LOL

  • Hyacinth having fun with the Major, in the conservatory lmao!!

  • I love this show. I'm so glad my mom and dad told me about this show years ago! Makes me laugh all the time!

  • I didn't know there were people that went ou to check house meters. I thought they did that electronically.

Yay! I learned something new less than 3 hours into 2009!

  • I LOVE this show

  • say can you see? is that churchill over the fireplace??

  • It is good old Churchill

  • is he drunk? lol!

  • I think he is glaring at hyacinth for subjecting him to every single one of her Candle Light Suppers

  • indeed..

i cannot help think of my faorite churchill quote

    "MR churchill you are drunk!"

"indeed madame i am,but tommorrow i shall be sober, you however are ugly, and tommorrow you shall still be ugly!"

  • why does the electric guy come into her home to read her meter? we don't do that in america, in LA at least, lol

  • the meter is outside in cleveland

  • The electrician wasn't in as much of a hurry to get away as most of the other people who visit Hyacinth's house. And his smile when he came made me wonder if he's yet another man who likes Hyacinth.

  • I was wondering what year this is from?

I remember this actress,Patricia Routledge, from the late 60's in the movie "To Sir,with love" and she was great in that too.

    Mary-

  • this is from 1990

  • its from 1990

  • love it

  • Great, great stuff. What a comic actress Patricia Routledge was/is. Has anyone ever fitted their role so perfectly as she did here ;-)
