  • All these years later, I still say that this should have won Eurovision. Does it matter? Yes. I know that The Shadows predate The Beatles, but this is more a Beatles than a Shadows sound. I couldn't see how it couldn't win at the time. Musically, Teach In's song is good and quick and catchy, but this one has the substance, surely. Rarely played now, which is a shame.

  • Great song. Dig those groovy flares!

  • Love old Bruce! always tongue in cheek!!! XX

  • Didnt Creme Brulee do the original? Crème Brulee did the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, and was nearly signed to Pickwick in '76. Their big hit was "Voodoo Lady"

  • rare vocal for a reason; they preferred to hit the 'twang" which is what The Shadows were always known for. Yeah Go Shadows...

  • this song should have won..its still a brilliant tune.

  • Thanks for the prompt answer mate.

  • @kesrel211 No problem

  • WHO is the chap with beard ?? do we know him !!

  • @kesrel211 it's John Farrar, he is most famous for working with Olivia Newton John but he was in The Shadows for a load of their songs

  • Their vocal stuff was great and I'm sure they'd have done more if it were better received?

  • I could be wrong, but I think this is a promo clip, rather than a mimed 'performance' as such

  • @KMEECHY Yes Hank Marvin does look a little bit like Lennon. The song even reminds me a lot of the Beatles! Double coincedence.

  • Quel horreur ce morceau, heureusement qu'il n'ont pas fait énormément de morceaux chantés!

  • Nice song, although slightly corny, even for 1975.

  • @ENACODNOM That's what makes it cool. Many of the self-righteous performances of the contemporary progressive bands from the 70's were even more corny in their own right.

  • should have walked eurovision in 1975 another great song what didnt win

  • This cool song should have won the Eurovision. It was far better than the dutch crap...

  • wow. pause at 0:37! hank marvin looks like lennon!

  • HOLD ON? BRUCE? YOU ON BASS? DONT BELIEVE IT! :O

  • Ding a Dong by Teach In was the No1 in that contest of the year, while Shadows was the 2nd place. They're still the number one in our mind.

  • This is pure talent - otherwise they could not be actual so many years after.

I danced one night to this song with a girl which I like very much. I didnt get to know her more than the dance - but still remember the evening in 1984. We cant have it all I guess.

  • Can you dig it?

  • I never thought I'd see Bruce Welch play Bass.

  • @SirChristopherGorton Bruce and hank can play anything

  • @SirChristopherGorton Bruce and Hank can play anything

  • are these the beatles?

  • @1dajiang

No- this is the band that were around BEFORE The Beatles - and a bloody long time afterwards!

  • Bruce playing the bass??? Never ever seen that before..wow

  • Супер !!! Когда я учился в НЭТ, у нас эту песню неллохо исполнял свой ВИА.

  • Absolutely awesome <3<3<3<3<3<3

  • WITHOUT DOUBT.THEY SHOULD HAVE WON THE EUROVISION CONTEST THAT

    YEAR.THANKS FOR SHARING.

  • @perransands

Can't agree with that despite this being a great song.

They were up against Ding a Dong by Teach In - a classic Euro track.

  • Great track, one of my fave Shadows track. Why didnt thay do more vocal tracks

  • @davekm43 - Suppose they had enough with Cliff lol

  • @davekm43 they did quite a few vocal tracks in the sixties including mary anne five hundred miles and a little bitty tear

  • @davyboy232 Yes I know they did, but what I meant to say was become a vocal group as will as the instrumentals.

  • A great song. It brings memories from my childhood.

  • Awesome <3

  • GREAT... gonna mastruba*e to man in the middle toníght. Dram well

  • technically this line up is known as Marvin, Welsh and Farrar, not the shadows!

  • No it isn't. Brian Bennett is on drums, the record is credited to the Shadows. The Shadows reformed with John Farrar in 1973.

  • I had no idea Bruce played Bass on this song!! All those years, I am distraught now....:(

  • Don't be distraught, please. Bruce just pretended to play the bass. Alan Tarney plays the piano and the bass.

  • Estupenda canción, y mucho mejor después de los arreglos que se hicieron para Estocolmo. En directo, el día del festival y con toda una orquesta detrás sonaron The Shadows de maravilla, ofreciendo una actuación memorable...

  • This was my great favourite in 1975.

Although I was then onlv ten years old

I was very attracted by a girl in my school

then. This song always reminds me it.

  • Damn, I love this song. The singer out of Silver Sun only wishes he could be have the geek cool of Hank Marvin.

  • Where would we be able to find good musicians in this modern world? For good music, I have to trace back to the 60s, 70s and 80s.

  • Wonderful...

  • brilliant should have won it

  • Curious. Bruce Welch as a bassplayer?

  • After the tragic death of long-time Shadows bassist John Rostill in 1973 (when he was killed by electrocution in his home studio ) the Shadows never again recruited a permanent bassist . Had he lived he would have probably have been with them to the end.John was a talented bassist & prolific songwriter. He never lived to see the major success of his songs :Let Me Be There & If You Love Me Let Me Know - massive USA hits for Olivia Newton John , both of which Elvis sang at his latter concerts .

  • support you on that one.John Rostill, listen to *girl on the bus*, thank you..

  • This song was Britain's entry in A Song for Europe..the Eurovision song Contest.. and came second. This put the Shads back in the public eye with a new teenage fan base resulting. Incidentally Cliff also came second later with "Congratulations".

  • Sorry, Congratulations was earlier of course !

  • Yes a great song.

I like Hank's solo's and always the right SOUND.....

    IVAN

  • Yes, it's mimed.

Just look at Brian Bennett. The movements of the sticks do not fit to the drum sounds.......

And look at the bassdrum !

And where is the typical mistake Hank's (I know he does !) always playing in this number ???

    Sorry guys, ....

  • I see Hank at the Django festival in Samois every year, he doesn't look any different, still lean with big spex :-))

  • Brill song. Very catchy. Haven't heard it for years.

  • A great song with great & tight harmonies!! Hank Marvin is a technically gifted guitarist who inspired many rock guitarists.

  • looks like tarney on keyboards, but as you say he played bass on 3 shads albums. this also is being mimed.

  • alan tarney was a bass player for the shadows for a short time
