I happen to know that alot of this material that Jason does lead vocals on was on demos and waiting for Chicago and Peter Cetera to record...As you can hear, they were obviously chosen with Peter in mind...This one,"If She Would Have Been Faithful", and a number of others were ALL intended to be done with Peter,but,...thats how it goes...Jason is ok,but he will always be sort of a "generic" front man for the band...It just doesnt sound the way it should without Mr Cetera..
C'mon, Robert, Lee, Jim, and Walt. It's time to bury the hatchet and let Peter back in the group. He's founderin;you're founderin' Welcome him back in with open arms. God bless! Hit #5 in Billboard.
Thanks for posting this and all of your other videos, Jamie. We appreciate all your videos and time that goes into posting them. You have posted some real gems here. Thank You, thank you, thank you!
This is a very nice song. I really like it. Good horn section.Nice words and arrangement.......But any real fan of Cetera's would know INSTANTLY this is not Peter. Jason always sounds like he's straining his voice. Peter's voice is far superior.
Chicago is an great example why music made between 1978- 1992 was so... magical. Chicago made so many good songs. The music industry makes less good music these days. It's not as enjoyable to listen to radio now as compared to back then.
Hands down one of their best. Performed very well. Jake I agree I have seen them many times and they just dont put this on their playlist in concert much.
Not sure if you meant this, but just to let you know, Jason is the only person who has sang this song. Cetera never did, he had already left the band. Bobby Caldwell also sings a good (better) live version of this. Bobby is the co writer of this song.
Listen to Bobby Caldwell sing this song. He closely duplicates Peter Cetera's parts and makes the song sounds just like Peter Cetera himself singing the song!
True, Jason isn't as good live as Cetera, but this is their best post-Cetera tune that is so classic Chicago. Jason Scheff has a couple of great songs on XXX and sings his ass off (check out "Long Lost Friend")! He's also a better bassist than Cetera, whose ballad blandness probably kept Chicago out of the Rock & Roll hall of fame. You may miss Cetera. I don't.
One of my favorite moments in any of the 12 Chicago concerts I've been to over the years was when Jason sang this song solo playing the piano with Jimmy playing muted trombone fills in the background. This song was the best of Chicago 19.
I really love this song & i really love Chicago. But i think Jason messed d song @ 1:29. Maybe because it's a live performance??? Well, what could've been d turnout if Cetera sung this song???
I've been to 3 Chicago Concerts and have yet to hear this song Live, thanks for posting. I would love to hear "You come To My Senses" too, they never do that live either.
Whatever the reason Seraphine left, idc personally lol. I met Tris Imboden backstage at a Chicago concert along with Jason Scheff. Very down to earth and nice people.
Wow! Thanks for posting this Chicago kid,I always love this song I have the UK version of their greatest hits CD and yeah it was called THE HEART OF CHICAGO. I didnt know they had the remixed version on that CD. Thanks for the trivias as well.. You're the man!!!
I'm glad they didnt. Though i respect the guy and his talent, but he was trying to control the direction of the band, not through feedback, but by becoming a business type person and at that time, they were at a high moment. Maybe Danny's vision would of taken them in a better direction, but the band wasnt ready.
But at least he isnt trying to turn the band into a business like Danny was. Know who i kind of miss? Dawayne Bailey. About 5 years ago i use to speak to him through emails, he actually liked my poetry. i believe he does have a myspace account, but he brought a certain flare to the band, just a damn shame Robert Lamm never really thought he fit in the band.
I'll just never forget the times I saw Danny with the band. I don't care about band politics. He is a great drummer. He has his version of what happened, but I've never really heard the band's explanation. Danny claims all of the other guys were so heavy into drugs and whatever that he had no choice but to handle a lot of the business issues. When the others started sobering up, they didn't like the fact that he was controlling a lot of the business aspects. Who knows?
Aye i can agree there, who truely knows. theres always 3 sides to every story. theres on persons side, theres the other persons side, then theres the entirely truth. Danny Is a great drummer
You say that pretty authoritatively. There are *many* stories that go around about Seraphine's departure. What "direction" did he want to take them that they objected to?
Jimmy seems to be alluding to them feeling a little worn out. It kind of shows. Tempo's a little sluggish, Jason's not spot-on. But fun to see the full-band version of this, with the horn-break and everything.
I love Jason Scheff! He's the whole package!

they need to turn the bass up for this song
and Jason needs to nail it.
the slides and the 1/8th notes on the root
during the chorus extremely important for the feel
of this song. the bass needed to louder in the mix

Agreed...singer's voice sounds a bit thin and weak. I kept waiting for it to crack on the higher notes.
