If your dog won't jump through the tire, here's what i did with my border. Get a hula hoop (the kids kind works fine!) and start with that. Brace the hoop on the ground and have them walk through it, using the clicker when they're in the middle of the hoop. Then hold the hoop higher and higher off the ground and you should just be able to replace it with a tire jump and give your go command.

I'm wanting to start with my dog, but she goes around the hoop, not through it lol How do i get her to through? Even if I throw a treat on the other side, she still goes around the hoop and to the treat. HELP! (i'm brand new!)

i get like, long logs or wooden poles that people put int eh ground to make horse fences, then lay them out over shorter logs. this makes it really long and gets them use to jumping over uneven jumps and wood...

Funny, my boxer and I are also entering a show in july. Shes now at the point where she can jump 4 ft! I just need help with weave poles and the teeter. :)

If I were you, I wouldn't enter the show. Keep on training your dog, and in a few months ask your instructor when she thinks you'll be ready to trial. :)

well, wat i did was make a really long jump. then throw my dogs favorite toy or a stick over the middle of it. she ussually jumps over. but if ur dog still doesnt, then get like signs that people put in yards, get a couple and put them on the sides of the jump...

Keep him/her on a leash at first, then after a few weeks and he/she gets used to jumping over it on command, take the leash off. If it still doesn't work, go to the leash again. Usually it'll work, that's how my yorkie Jill learned ;)
