because you are entitled to every dollar you work for.
The Government never spends it well and on things you need.
The Government doesnt really need to tax everyone cause it shouldnt need the money. the role of government should be limited to protecting the nations borders, Protecting citizens constitutional rights, and staying out of the way of its people. Obamas plans will increase taxes for a lot of people because he has big governemtn ideas.
The only potential problem I see with this plan is that it looks like he's going to have to increase taxes for corporations, which mostly aren't doing too well right now, to follow through on many of these government funded projects. If there are less healthy corporations, there are less jobs. If people don't have jobs, the economy suffers. Otherwise it's a good plan.

I hope the country is ready to address the real problems facing this nation. Big business has too much control. Deregulation is a failed concept that has failed to provide the competition that was supposed to actually lower prices. Telecommunication companies and electric power providers have been allowed to bleed the consumers dry and it is a disgrace! Obama at least seems to understand that Government pays an inportant role in protecting citizens from corporate greed.
Obama is a great speaker. I don't understand the criticism he gets for not being specific. This is very specific, and as specific as possible while talking to everyday people. Good video.
Obama is definitely what this country needs. He has such conviction and truly believes in what he stands for. He's going to do what he says. Unfortunately, people are too racist to even give him a thought. I really wish people would put their prejudices behind them for once and see that Obama is the best thing that can happen to this country at the moment.
Of course there will be obstacles, mostly because the big business interest has a huge leverage on our nation. Let us pay attention to Eisenhower's warning about letting the military-industrial complex run the show. America belong's to Americains.
Political speaches aside, Barack is our only hope of keeping America, america. I Love the afterschool program he speaks of. The King George regime has totally disregsrded the struggling family. Please, urge everyone you know to redister and vote for Obama!
Dems and Obama: Why not make the passage of this huge bailout conditional on immediately repealing the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy? well his plan is basicaly invest money to create more jobs and keep the money and the population inside the country. I like how made it so the taxes become extremely high for those who ship jobs overseas, as he is forcing the economy to grow in the country.
Woot Woot! I love it when a plan comes together..... we'll never have a candidate we can all agree on but this is the best shot of getting out of this mess we have-- everybody on the train!! :)
I agree with the notion that if this could be condensed into a 1-2 minute commercial, maybe even in parts, this would be a very worthy investment for the Obama campaign.
A very well done video, highlighting a solid economic plan for America's future.
I just hope you Americans choose the right president, so that the rest of the world don't have to suffer because of the actions of your president, (High fuel prises and so on). It makes me sick that you don't hear the words "balanced budget" from either of the two parties anymore, even though they BOTH know that we're heading towards a $10 Trillion defecit. WAKE UP AMERICA!!!
Firstly, you're confusing the defecit with the national debt. Look up both those terms so that you can learn the difference.
Secondly, you have to take it one step at a time. We can't get to work on really balancing the budget until we make it so that the middle class isn't flat broke anymore. At least Obama's got a step-by-step plan for where to go, while McCain just says "cut taxes", but his plan gives nearly a quarter of all of its benefits to the top 1%, who need it the least!
I'm not necessarily for or against either opponent, but in this particular speech, Obama was talking about how his plan would improve and fix America's Economy by having the jobs centered on our continent and he's raising taxes on Companies focusing over seas.
You do know what McCain's health plan is, right? If you receive health insurance from your employer, McCain WILL TAX IT AS INCOME!!!! He really is for the people, sure!!!
He wants the goverment to "change". No more replubicans to be president they all want the same. Mcain wants to raise taxes and my family is not that rich. We hardly have enough money to pay for food, gas, clothes, bills, and rent for our small apartment. We need to use clean energy and Obama says it will create more than 50 million jobs but Mcain wants to reley on Irags oil and give them tax breaks. I am only 14 but i have a voice to and I want Barack Obama Because I want "change".
Thank God Mr. Obama has plans, Because McCain sure doesn't have many! Vote Obama and you may just have saved America from the downfall it has been going through! God Speed Mr. Obama!
Obama's plan looks after people, it takes care of those who are hurting the most in this recession, he wants to be sure that people maintain their jobs instead of having them shipped overseas. He wants to every American to have access to quality medical care, what's more is he understands that the fundamentals of our economy are not strong, but are being rocked by the banking industry and nearly drew the world into an economic collapse...something that McCain simply doesn't understand.
You don't understand how income tax works. Let's say you're the head of a household. You pay 10% on the first ~$11,000 you make, then 15% on the next ~$31,000 after that, and so forth. So you would only be getting taxed at that higher rate for the one dollar you make over $250,000. This is the essence of our progressive tax system.
Because Families that are Struggling in these harsh economic times, are truly the ones that Need a Tax cut.
If Barack Obama is elected president, he'll most likely become one of the Best presidents in U.S history.
Republicans are known to lie, cheat and steal to win elections and anything else they want. They along with their friends the Corporate Media will stop at nothing.
Good! I like the info. Well done. I'm not seeing that out of McCain.
I would like you to work to stop companies from having employees sign away their rights as American citizens. I see more an more companies adding disclaimers in their job applications requiring workers to give up up their rights in order to apply for a job. This should be made illegal.
It should already have been made illegal, but companies have been taken to court and given the right to include these disclaimers.
I am very happy to follow your campaign. Currently your country undergoes a severe financial depression and I am dismayed to see on TV these families are thrown into the street because of speculation. Your country has suffered natural disasters but now he endured financial tsunami .I think that the American dream turns to nightmare American. I count on you to restore hope to the U.S.
in presenting a program where all political intimidation, corruption or extreme speculation will be prohibited.
Sure these plans sound great on the surface but what we really need is sound money! What good is a $1000 rebate when we're printing money to bail out every corporation in America, thus making your rebate worthless! Stop the spending, stop the inflation, stop the unlimited creation of money that's destroying our economy! Gas IS high, food IS high, and that's because we're destroying the value of the dollar by billions and billions every day.
Yes, it cost to correct the blunders of Bush administration. I would rather pay to help families keep their homes, protect the environment, provide people with jobs, medical benefits for workers/families instead of paying billions of dollars for a war we can't win. Great plan Senator Obama. Wake up people give the Democrats a chance, the Republicans have already shown what they can do.
How about a permanent tax reduction of 10% or greater, this will put more money in consumers pockets! Yes, this would cause Washington to be more like most struggling Americans who suffer with not enough income to buy all the things they want! Let them feel our pain!
How about putting a much larger tax on imported goods, perhaps this would give companies more of an incentive to produce in the U.S. with American workers! We need more U.S. Factories producing the goods we consume!
Paulson's bailout plan is a transfer of wealth from the taxpayer to wallstreet firms. Wallstreet wants to sell glass beads for gold, they want to crystalize gains on complex mortgage instruments the market doesn't want to touch. Paulson was head of Goldman sachs, he can not be trusted to look out for the best interest of the public. If the public lets WS unload junk for real money, it will be one of the biggest swindles in history. WS created this mess and now they want the public to pay for it.
We know that over seven years of "trickle down" economics has led to a record deficit and now a trillion-dollar financial bailout, paid by us taxpayers.
It's clear the time for change is now! Obama has the right ideas at the right time and he certainly has my vote!
This is great. Run it as an infomercial on tv, you can break into cable by zip-code and target the buy carefully to shows watched by blue-collar and so-called Reagan Democrats, as well as moderate women. Go Obama/Biden!
This shows the difference of having a top Harvard graduate running the country instead of a bottom of the free ride Annapolis class or the C Student, we now have making critical financial decisions for our country!
We need Change and Obama-Biden have the brains to get it done!
I honestly don't understand how anyone who makes less than 150-250k a year would vote Republican. Drip down economics is a scam. It's the nature of capitalism to pay employees as little as possible..hence all the outsourcing and work visas..
He's already said he is open to nuclear power as long as it can be stored safely. Green technology is certainly more important though. I like the fact that obama has clear plans where it makes sense to move foward but when its not clear to anyone what the best move would be he doesn't seem to make rash and quick descisions.
my god. im a republican in the south. myself, family and friends are republicans. bush voters...Obama is finally connecting with blue-collar workers...lets just say we're rethinking things in our household atm lol
I have a good feeling about Obama. Only time will tell if he does what he says.
But I do know one thing, it is so refreshing to hear a mainstream candidate finally make intelligent distinctions about the issues with a clear emphasis on the vast majority of a country's citizens, the working class.
Thank You for a real plan! McCain has NO Plan! Senator Barrack Obama graduated # 1 at Harvard Law School. Senator McCain finshed 5th from the bottom at the Naval Academy! Hello???? Who do you think is more qualified to lead our nation out of this mess? I'm a retired Marine and only one of many active duty military and veterans for Obama! Yes We Can! Obama/Biden 2008!
"Obama claims that he will double spending on after school programs; double spending on cancer research; get health insurance for every American; subsidize corn production; get those who go bankrupt due to health problems out of debt; give a 10% tax credit on mortgages; and lower dependence on foreign energy without increasing our nuclear power production." if so, question... where is the money coming from? america is already in a lot of debt....??
I remember hearing similar things when Clinton ran in 1992. Did he deliver everything? No, but he made a real difference. Americorps was a huge change--encouraging young and old to serve their nation and making it economically feasible. And given the McCain/Palin alternative--good Lord this choice is easy. What we do in the next few years around energy technology will make the difference for generations in terms of our countries economy. Do we keep drilling and praying or do we innovate?
Mr. Obama I really REALLY want to vote for you but I don't think I can. If I did you would put me out of business.
My business is expected to gross around 300K. I would fall into the category of over 250K. I also except to have higher expenses than gross. My girlfriend is going to have to help me to pay taxes and she makes around 13K. This is on top of prices going up for everything.
Come America! Judge on the content of policy and NOT the color of one's skin. Gesh, it's not a black and white issue, it's a green issue! And we've lost a lot of green under republicans.
Hobophobic: Visit his website for a much more detailed plan. This is a very brief overview. His website has MANY specifics. You will find all the answers you need there.
Obama's camp provides evidence and details of his ideas, stance on issues, and plans. All I get from the McCain camp are attacks against Obama and NO concrete facts. I have no idea what McCain's plan is exactly...well I DO know that the largest tax breaks will go to the ones with the largest income.
How can a middle class person NOT vote for Obama?!?!?!?!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2008!
Send this video to your Republican friends and family and coworkers, ANYBODY, NOW!
And by the way, I'm shocked at the people saying "finally he shows us a plan"... he's been repeating these plans word for word in almost EVERY speech he's given for months! Did everyone just have a collective brain fart?
It's called the Republican/Bush/McCain (help the Rich) Policies we have had the last 8 yrs. Need proof, just look whats been going on in the Stock Market this week.
This is McCain's plan... Oh crap we gotta copy Obama now, the "Country First" slogan didn't work so lets copy Obama's "Change" and so we don't plagurize lets put "is coming" BRILLIANT! Obama Campaign should sue the McCain Campaign for infringement.
It's like China making that fake SMART car or the BMW look alikes.
Obama is the one that can promise change.
McCain "change" is just copying what's already available.
What he's saying is that he's trying to make it so alternative fuels can be used at such a magnitude that we actually use less oil because of it. Things like vastly enhancing how much solar power we use, vastle enhancing how much wind power we use, and to stop using expensive fuel that isn't going to be there forever, whereas the sun will always come up and the wind will always blow, making this a no-brainer.
The next thing they say is, "I don't believe it." That's because they don't want to believe it.
When the race is finaly over and we have the new way.... They'll believe it... they'll see it. Try not to be too hard on them for "they know not what they do."
I can't wait until the first debate. McCain's vocabulary is limited. All Obama needs to do is use a few nine and twelve letter words to throw McCain off balance. I'm taking bets on how many times McCain will mention "vietnam".
A. He assembled a team of advisors and wanted to reach a final consensus on every issue. Voters don't really tune in until summer is over. And, frustratingly, if you announce your plan too early, then by the time summer is over the media thinks it's old news and the don't report it at all. They take the word 'news' just a little bit too literally.
My only problem is that he seems to be a supporter of subsidized corn ethanol, and I'm curious as to what his ideas are about nuclear power. His talk of "green technology" kind of bothers me because we've already invested a lot in opening more nuclear plants and building a facility underground in the deserts of Nevada to store waste. More nuclear power would be vastly cheaper and more efficient and most certainly lessen reliance on foriegn oil, since that seems to be a big part of his platform.
the only problem is that nuclear power isn't entirely "clean". no matter how much you try to argue, nuclear power is still harmful, not just to the environment but also to people, and (in very rare cases) dangerous. try asking the people who's towns are proposed for storing nuclear waste (John McCain tried to get it done in Arizona and was shunned)
I have to agree with you that he isn't the most "green" of the democratic candidates but I do like the fact that he wants to invest in making our country more self-sufficient in our energy consumption and also creating jobs to do so. Let's just hope he gets a good energy advisor and works more with wind/solar other options vs goal and ethanol
Let me first say that corn should not be an issue considering the fact that America has subsidized corn for decades and paid farmers to plow over there crops of corn for most of those years. All we do is actually reap what was sown. All concerns about corn are baseless. That was something that was said to boost corn prices on the commodities market. We don't have a shortage. Plus corn is not the best crop for ethanol production. Sugar cane is the best. How about planting Cane instead!
Your worried about subsidized corn ethanol. The Republican/Bush/McCain are subsidizing the Banking system of the World! Ask the downwinders of Hanford, Wa. about Nuclear power being vastly cheaper. From the Front Lines of the Republican Recession in Michigan.
I totally agree, I'm not an American though. Today nuclear power is the cheapest way of producing energy. And given the high efficiency of modern plants its dependency on uranium is nothing in comparison to that of traditional power plants on oil. The thing that world needs today is a wise leadership that will be able to deliver this message to skeptics.
Check his website where all the details of his energy plan are posted. But in a nutshell, Obama supports nuclear energy IF researchers can figure out what to do with the waste and he will support that research as part of his $15 billion a year energy plan.
Obama supports nuclear power plants. The rate will be limited. These plants cost eight billion dollars. So McCain's 45 power plants=$360,000,000,000 tax payer money. Though, it is has a cheap operational cost.($.07 per kWh)However, wind energy has the same operational cost. It is much cheaper to get it started, especially if wee herd the free markets in. Wind Power>Nuclear energy. Also remember that nuclear power is not entirely safe.
While Nuclear Power is a viable option and is one that we have invested in, it still holds a fairly negative feeling in the minds of Americans. While it's true that we've improved our ability to deal with nuclear waste and potential risks of nuclear reactors, it is still not as popular as green technology.
The best option: mix it. Increase drilling, increase green technology (especially in autos), and increase nuclear power. In the long term, a broad investment will pay off.
I guess what we're looking at is an alternative to McCain's stances, which don't say ANYTHING green. He wants more of the same. MORE OIL! MOOOAAARR...
honest to god, I think that if there IS research money thrown at the problem the way Obama is proposing, we'll move away from corn ethanol on our own! With some investment in it, we'll have the freedom we NEED to move to a more viable, more efficient, less damaging solution the moment we discover one, which tight purse strings prevent now.
Oh, sounds interesting, but just "building a facility underground" isn't the solution. Think, this facilitys have to protected against terrorists for thousands of years. Thats your money, better let's give up this nuclear vision slowly but wisely and step in a more greener energy plan for our childrens lives. The biggest nuclear powerplant is the SUN. So let's invent the best ways to get this green power.
I see where your coming from but in my opinion I see nuclear energy as something potential environmentally harmful like offshore drilling. I would rather we spend money in researching and funding on non harmful areas of energy production as of right now and maybe take a look at a more controlled and safer way to tackle what we can do nuclearly. But then we have been telling every other country what to do with their nuclear supplys it'd be kind of hypocritical to start up our own production of it
I'm sure that terrorists seeking easier acsess to the raw materials needed to make nuclear weapons would be love to see the spread of nuclear power as well. When we talk cheap and efficent do we factor in the costs of security and waste storage? We are talking about having to do this for tens of thousands of years now.
There should be no real taxes...why?
because you are entitled to every dollar you work for.
The Government never spends it well and on things you need.

That's a Great Economic Plan.
So don't be fooled by McCain.

Remember "freedom of speech"?
It will take you a long way.
Don't be worried.
Just respond in the clear calm manner that is proper demeanor.
Let the Republicans yell and shout if they like and cut people off from a position of control in order to manipulate the facts and make their point.
Don't get caught up in that stance yourselves.
Censorship is Censorship.
On that, I can agree with some of the postings that I have seen on McCain's site.
Stand tall.
Let freedom ring!

What he's saying is that he's trying to make it so alternative fuels can be used at such a magnitude that we actually use less oil because of it. Things like vastly enhancing how much solar power we use, vastle enhancing how much wind power we use, and to stop using expensive fuel that isn't going to be there forever, whereas the sun will always come up and the wind will always blow, making this a no-brainer.

StupidVds 3 years ago
Q. Why did Barack save the details until now?

TheHobophobic 3 years ago
i, too, am interested in his position on this.
I have hear that he is against it...
but not directly.
pappyinww2 3 years ago
the only problem is that nuclear power isn't entirely "clean". no matter how much you try to argue, nuclear power is still harmful, not just to the environment but also to people, and (in very rare cases) dangerous. try asking the people who's towns are proposed for storing nuclear waste (John McCain tried to get it done in Arizona and was shunned)
WavesAndRocks 3 years ago
I have to agree with you that he isn't the most "green" of the democratic candidates but I do like the fact that he wants to invest in making our country more self-sufficient in our energy consumption and also creating jobs to do so. Let's just hope he gets a good energy advisor and works more with wind/solar other options vs goal and ethanol
charlottepoet 3 years ago
Let me first say that corn should not be an issue considering the fact that America has subsidized corn for decades and paid farmers to plow over there crops of corn for most of those years. All we do is actually reap what was sown. All concerns about corn are baseless. That was something that was said to boost corn prices on the commodities market. We don't have a shortage. Plus corn is not the best crop for ethanol production. Sugar cane is the best. How about planting Cane instead!
sapeca2 3 years ago
Your worried about subsidized corn ethanol. The Republican/Bush/McCain are subsidizing the Banking system of the World! Ask the downwinders of Hanford, Wa. about Nuclear power being vastly cheaper. From the Front Lines of the Republican Recession in Michigan.
MrZip66 3 years ago
I totally agree, I'm not an American though. Today nuclear power is the cheapest way of producing energy. And given the high efficiency of modern plants its dependency on uranium is nothing in comparison to that of traditional power plants on oil. The thing that world needs today is a wise leadership that will be able to deliver this message to skeptics.
dzytdzyt 3 years ago
Check his website where all the details of his energy plan are posted. But in a nutshell, Obama supports nuclear energy IF researchers can figure out what to do with the waste and he will support that research as part of his $15 billion a year energy plan.
stickleyroad 3 years ago
Barack Obama says nuclear power should be explored as an energy option.
marioatrevino 3 years ago
Obama supports nuclear power plants. The rate will be limited. These plants cost eight billion dollars. So McCain's 45 power plants=$360,000,000,000 tax payer money. Though, it is has a cheap operational cost.($.07 per kWh)However, wind energy has the same operational cost. It is much cheaper to get it started, especially if wee herd the free markets in. Wind Power>Nuclear energy. Also remember that nuclear power is not entirely safe.
Obama/Biden' 08!
kampuchezqueen 3 years ago
While Nuclear Power is a viable option and is one that we have invested in, it still holds a fairly negative feeling in the minds of Americans. While it's true that we've improved our ability to deal with nuclear waste and potential risks of nuclear reactors, it is still not as popular as green technology.
The best option: mix it. Increase drilling, increase green technology (especially in autos), and increase nuclear power. In the long term, a broad investment will pay off.
AbsolutionDouble0 3 years ago
obama isn't against nuclear power he just wants to make sure the waste is stored carefully
BuRgErFRICKle89 3 years ago
I guess what we're looking at is an alternative to McCain's stances, which don't say ANYTHING green. He wants more of the same. MORE OIL! MOOOAAARR...
honest to god, I think that if there IS research money thrown at the problem the way Obama is proposing, we'll move away from corn ethanol on our own! With some investment in it, we'll have the freedom we NEED to move to a more viable, more efficient, less damaging solution the moment we discover one, which tight purse strings prevent now.
Stonehawk 3 years ago
Oh, sounds interesting, but just "building a facility underground" isn't the solution. Think, this facilitys have to protected against terrorists for thousands of years. Thats your money, better let's give up this nuclear vision slowly but wisely and step in a more greener energy plan for our childrens lives. The biggest nuclear powerplant is the SUN. So let's invent the best ways to get this green power.
treestor3 3 years ago
I see where your coming from but in my opinion I see nuclear energy as something potential environmentally harmful like offshore drilling. I would rather we spend money in researching and funding on non harmful areas of energy production as of right now and maybe take a look at a more controlled and safer way to tackle what we can do nuclearly. But then we have been telling every other country what to do with their nuclear supplys it'd be kind of hypocritical to start up our own production of it
BasicCoolGuy 3 years ago
I'm sure that terrorists seeking easier acsess to the raw materials needed to make nuclear weapons would be love to see the spread of nuclear power as well. When we talk cheap and efficent do we factor in the costs of security and waste storage? We are talking about having to do this for tens of thousands of years now.
