Got on the elevator with her at a concert she gave for WUMB Boston My wife didn't believe it was her until we talked to her before the concert. She was outstanding!
So at first I thought, "Would it kill her to wear something besides a T-shirt?" and then she sang and I thought, "aw, shit, who cares what she wears with a voice like that?"
I had never heard Cheryl Wheeler until today, I heard her song Arrow on the Loft channel on Sirrus, she is wonderful! Beautiful haunting voice. Plan to see her in September when she plays in Marblehead
If you could ever get Cheryl Wheeler & Jann Arden to tour together it would be a legionary concert, both are GREAT singers songwriters but WOW it would be the funniest most entertaining concert ever. They are both amazing on stage. I think if they ever wanted to they could both be stand up comedians.
,,I had given up hope of ever finding this song again,,,thank u so much 4 posting this awesome song,,,although I had forgotten the lyrics,,the melody always haunted me. If u were around,,,,,,
I agree with you stan. I saw her Friday night in Covington, KY and she was awesome! She did Northern Girl when I offered up a title upon her asking. I also got her autograph. She was lovely and I am still thrilled with the experience of hearing her sing and play. Wow. Can't believe I didn't even know who she was until a couple of months ago.
Cheryl is god!!! Makes me want to pick up the violin that I played for for so many years in my youth, but she seems rushed in this version of Arrow!!!
One of the most perfect songs ever written. And, for the record, "Sylvia Hotel" is one of the most perfect albums--it's up there with "The Hunter" by Jennifer Warnes.
@2georgeorwell so true those ords--at least all my relationships go down the tubes after a little while! Damn, what do women want--you can give hem the whole world and they'll still leave you soon as the wind blows---MYSTERIES!
@micmoable typoed a lot in my post--meant to say you can give them the whole world and they'll still leave you----mystery=women!!! cant live with them and can't live without them-----DAMMIT!
Cheryl Wheeler played at tmy neice Jody Archers Tribute who was killed by a drunk driver@age 18 survuved by her 7 wk old son Our musical family &f riends followed Cheryl from club to club in her early days and her rise to fame .Cheryl returned that with her friendship & support in our time of need .luv ya Cheryl
This is my favorite Cheryl song of all time. Saw Cheryl in Ogunquit Maine last Saturday - she still has it - in addition to being one of the best singer/songwiters EVER, she could be a stand up comedian - we had a great time.
These lyrics haunt me. "I remember you in the tv light, holding you close to me where we lay.......whispering quietly, feeling you turn to me. Her voice is amazing. Thanks so much for posting.
She lives in Swansea, MA with her wife, Cathleen. She's still giving concerts now and then: I saw her in Littleton, MA last night. She's older, chubbier, fatter, and happier, and still just as riotiously funny between songs. Check out her concert schedule on her website.
I wonder if many guys of my age (18) like Cheryl Wheeler? I presume all of you posters are female?
Anyway, I discovered her when I was maybe 15 and still love her music! And this song definitely counts to my favs together with Right Way to Do the Wrong Thing, School Girls, Little Road and Alice!
I first heard Cheryl Wheeler a dozen years ago...I was totally enthralled and goosebumpey. I am still totally enthralled and goosebumpey ever time I hear her. Songwriter extaordinaire, beautiful voice and accomplished guitar.. does it get any better than this?
Pauline Mitchell,Bristol UK. This is my fave of Cheryl's songs,it has such poignant lyrics and great melody. I have all Cheryl's albums plus her DVD'What Do I Care I Don't Have Any Kids'. I also really love 'Almost' '75 Septembers' 'Aces' but really I love all her 'serious' love songs but not so keen on her comedic songs. I wish she would tour the UK as I have never been lucky enough to see her. She came here once for the Cambridge Folk Fest in 91 but not since. Please come to the UK Cheryl.
How does a song this beautiful and universal stay an obscurity? Attention Nashville record producers! There are better things to record than "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy"! This is a prime example.
because she's an out lesbian who refuses to doll herself up to make herself more commercial looking. that's why. one of her album covers even does a spoof on it. to thine own self be true . . .
Lost my husband three years ago....and this song still cuts to my heart and brings back his image "in the TV light." What an amazing song...It may always be my favorite! Thanks, Cheryl!
Cheryl is a wonderful wonderful singer, musician, and performer. I've probably seen 200 live performers in my life and a Cheryl Wheeler concert is probably second only to Springsteen in the late 70s/early 80s. She's that good.
@stanfrombrooklyn ... Hey Stan if you like Cheryl that much - would you mind giving me a quick quick listen... I'm desperately seeking to find where my music fits in this crazy world and am wondering if fans of Cheryl might also like me too. only if you have the time Stan from Brooklyn
This song both breaks my heart and rebuilds it again. It is a top ten of all time favorite. My boyfriend and I just broke up, and he shared this with me when we met about a year ago. I think I will keep watching this until I can do it without tears. I just can't fly yet like an arrow...but I think I will.
This is an amazing, perfectly crafted song, what a beautiful voice. I (luckily) just stumbled across this video, and it's one of my "OMG ! How good is The Internets ?" moments.
From Cheryl's comments about this song being on every other album from now on.. I think she must realised that she nailed it !! Awesome.
I saw Cheryl & sold CD's for her. Each time I heard this I cried. This song led me back to the "truest heart" I've ever known. I sent this man the CD and asked him to listen to Arrow.
Thank you Cheryl shooting this Arrow my way allowing me to take a chance, & come to know that love & hope can take us back to where our heart has always belonged. This song ignited something in me that has brought me such happiness. My heart is home again.
The TNN show "American Music Shop" was on from 1990 to 1993. The album "Circles and Arrows" was released in 1990, so I guess this would be from that era. This is my favorite song of hers.
