In 1974 I was 12yo. and in retrospect looking at this now ,they were head and shoulders better than most band around them. They were all accomplished musicians and vocalists with a wall of sound others could not match. Totally underrated and unappreciated for what they brought to the table........
@ab9957 Ain't that a fact. These guy's were what I consider "builders" of R&R & bands that came after.Queen for example.Imagine having this much talent.Imagine putting this much talent together, and making it work.Shame the U.S. market didn't value and moreso, appreciate Sweet as they should have. Play their music to those who don't know them. It's allot of fun when they come to realize how great they were after a few listens of select cuts.
Brian was a brilliant rock singer but they were great musicians all of them. I mean Mick Tucker ain't gonna have a No1 just banging a drum on his own but together they worked and created a great band. Just listen to Hell Raiser, Action, Ballroom Blitz, Teenage Rampage ect. Looking at it now Brain had the talent and looks no doubt about it. They really seemed like they all got on together which is rare for a band. Love them then Love them now RIP Brian & Mick..
Mick Tucker - shit hot drummer. That's all I can say, in the Hellraiser track near the end watch him absolutely belt the crap out of his kit, sing the chorus & keep perfect time all at once. He's the one I miss the most.
This was so cool! thanks for posting the whole documentary n.n if you hadn't post this i had never seen it. couse i'm 14 so i never be able to see things like this, from the sweet. so thank you thank you thank you with all my hearth
It's a shame that they had to grovel like dogs to get any kind of respect from their peers. They all had the instrumental and vocal skills of session musicians. Because they focused on pleasing their audience, they paid the price by the critics. I say they focused on the right listeners, whatever price they had to pay for it.
@twelvemeister I notice that there r lots of comments about certain glitter rock bands such as "most underrated band ever!) T.Rex & Sweet in particular. But in their time they were certainly not underrated they reigned like Gods & lived like them 2 I don't know how old u r but if u were around in the 70's then u must of remembered how it was. They all still live on because they r part of music history I just wish music today had the same purity as these bands had. Hard work, talent & charisma!
At the beginning the band are complaining that everyone thinks they're in it for the money but didn't they themselves say that the idea was "to make a large amount of money" in a short time to make the rest of their lives a bit easier?
"Love Is Like Oxygen" is still one of my favourite songs and it still tastes sweet.

Weren't they great.. all-round entertainers, talented musicians, vaudevillian-panto costumiers, great catchy-songsmiths, sense of humour as well..
All Morrisey can do is flounce around on stage clutching his rusting- irony..

these guys had as much talent as queen but the rock press never excepted them for what they were the best british band of the seventies.
starlingrad43 2 years ago 6
they should have had their own cartoon series .. at least.. probably the single most underrated band .. ever!

I think they were very underated in the US, take away the Glam costumes and they could sing beautifully. Great harmony.
tonlo92 2 years ago 3
Yeah, they could sing with or without the glitter. Just fantastic!

Great to watch! I like it when Brian is testing the sound in Hellraiser. It's also fun to hear them talking - that's very rare on Youtube.
