  • Paul play the same old ideas today that he played back on '89, his musicality is based on the same old stuff.

  • @yuribertram - Darn that some ol' complex theory with a genius imagination.

  • I wish that Paul would make a solo album where it's heavily influenced by metal and classical stuff together.

His solo albums are OK, but it would be awesome if he could bring back the Racer X thrashy, shredding sound.

  • I see your points see where you're coming from. I only stated things said by Satriani and Vai from their own mouths. Vai joined Alcatrazz and that experience improved his shops by a lot, he said "Yngwie's solos were kicking my butt". I met Macalpine and Vinnie Moore and kept in touch with Matt "Dr Mastermind". My point is just like Lamborghini showed the way with the Countach then Ferrari followed with the Berlinetta Boxer, etc. Yngwie influenced everyone and inspired players to be better.

  • Look at this Paul Gilbert Allready ate Yngwie Malmsteen for breakfast at the age of 20

Yes i dont like Yngwie Malmsteen hes the most overrated Neo Classical Metal Guitarist

ever Marty Friedman & Jason Becker where 3 x better

  • @musicisthebestF Yngwie had most of his first instrumental album down when he was 15. Yngwie is the reason why all this players became so good, Satriani and Vai both thank God for Yngwie because he showed the way and opened up the doors for players who had chops above the normal. I liked Yngwie at his early playing, since then he is just predictable and his songs are way too out of style and lost some of the darkness he had. I had the chops of all these guys at 16 but never cared to be famous.

  • @Testacojones

Well i wouldnt say Yngwie opened up the Way for Steve Vai since Steve Vai was Allready amazingly skilled in 1981 at the age of 18

And Yngwie first Album was released in 1983 ( Yes i looked that up on Wikipedia )

Besides that Joe Satriani is WAAY better then Yngwie i would say Joe Satriani opened up the Way for Paul Gilbert & John Petrucci & Andy Timmons

  • @musicisthebestF About Paul Gilbert, he was a monster at a young age. Some people don't know that he was teaching at GIT at 17!!!

  • @Testacojones

I know he was teaching guitar to Buckethead (listen to Echo Song by Paul sounds like a Buckethead Song)

and he was teaching Bruce B. second guitarist of Racer X

  • 1:10 KILLER

  • NO WAY!!!. . . When they start makin Steroids 4r Fingers? ? ?

  • Put him on vh1 please D;

  • jesus is my reaction

  • everytime i watch this video i just start laughing.....that guitar got raped so hard....

  • what the fuck he is entirely to good

  • LOL WHAT IN THE FUCK IS IT??? oO Oo oO oO Oo oO Oo

  • Imagine the sound of him playing that triple humbucker PGM through the Marshalls he uses now...three words: beefiest tone ever.

  • what pickups is he using?

  • @PGBUCKETHEAD PAF Pro, almost definitely. I've always seen this guitar as a red PGM200 with scallops.

  • @PGBUCKETHEAD knowing paul gilbert, they are probably tone zones or super distortions, (Or a possible mix of dimarizio pickups) or they could even be seymour duncan

  • Great to see such a great player at his peak! :D

  • a love at 1:20 where he just stops, looks at the neck and ponders

  • @Dethsquirrel lol yea man I do the same thing too after I play for someone. All i can think of is a mistake I made that they didnt hear but to me it sounded like death.

  • *TRIES TO CLOSE MOUTH*

  • another fuckin' alien....

  • man paul has so much reserved tallent u can just tell like he has never ment just balls out crazy

  • omg he's old

  • @acosebede he was born in the 60s lol

  • that tap was awesome!

  • Just amazing. I believe these years were Paul's peak. Although I'm not a huge fan of his music, his picking technique has to be the best the world has ever seen.

  • paul pretty much set the benchmark for string skipping . his alternate picking is still amazing but there were players before him that could pick just as fast. never the less hes still my fave

  • HOW did he get that clean? really does take talent

  • insane control

  • whats up with the pickups?

  • @reeeisrubber

All of them are humbuckers. Instead of two single and a humbucker, he replaced the two single with humbuckers.

  • The string skipping here always gets me.Not many sweepers can do that.

  • @AstriBlair Yeah, that's a technique that's totally unique to alternate picking. Economy pickers have a real tough time with that stuff. In fact, I've never heard an economy picker do it.

  • @yngvaigilbsteen Takayoshi Ohmura does it, quite often too. Check out the song Pleasant Surprise.

  • That dude is a smoking player, but it's different than what Paul is doing here. Ohmura is only skipping and playing one note on the higher strings, which is allowing him to hybrid pick it...chickin' pickin' style. : ) Alternate picking gives you the option to play as many notes as you want on any string. Having said that, Ohmura looks like he has a pretty flawless alternate picking technique, so he could probably, (at least come close to) what Paul does.

  • @yngvaigilbsteen

i would say hybrid is used more for that fluid like tone rather then staccato-ish

you would be amazed at what Garsed can pull of with that stuff.

but yeah i agree won't get that staccato sound with out alternate picking.

  • @Phrygian12 Yeah, he's an incredible player!

  • Paul is still the cleanest and most intense with that stuff that I've heard, though.

  • I'd agree with that, his technique is rediculously clean. There are players who play at his speed or even faster, but nobody picks as cleanly as he does.

  • true that. : )

  • paul is amazing, so melodic and musical in a field where most players don't known how to actually play (im not talking of becker, satch, vai and petrucci of course).

  • OMG....I went to this with a guitar playing friend from my high school...it was awesome seeing Paul live playing stuff the audience would call out.

  • hahha... what a silly shirt!

    paul is brilliant.

  • why the pickups taped ? is this in Atlanta GA ?

  • That tapping lick was awesome. I have not heard that lick from paul before and ive been a big fan for awhile

  • lol @ 0:35

    *pause* ... *hand drops*

  • @samling hahahahahahhaha lols were provided

  • i've tabbed this out,not entirely but you will get the point :D

  • Anyone have tab for this. Seen the Jason becker on ages ago and learnt loads of it. would love to learn this like

  • i liked it better when his guitars were pink and blue 80s glam rather than white and black

  • i agree

  • @koppergtr the sake fireman is pretty 80's looking. google it. It's pretty awesome

  • @koppergtr this guitar is actually red and blue

  • pgm 200!!!

i want this guitar!! even if i'm not paul looool!

  • The 89 aim was legendary, it's annoying how you cant just 'go out and buy it'.

  • Greg Howe had a really kick ass AIM Clinic in 89' I believe... T have the tape somewhere, I'll have to get it on one day...

  • IS that a yummy PGM100 i see?

  • no its a pgm200 custom

  • Yeah theres some vids of Jason Becker at AIM on youtube and man that blew me away

  • It's rediculous how he shreds the fuck out of the guitar and suddenly stops to have a think

    like it's nothing lol.He's Incredible!!!!!

  • That's part of the act, it's the secret, but it isn't really.

  • you must see a clinic of Jason Becker in the AIM, in the dvd The Legendary Guitar of Jason Becker, Paul play great, but the clinic of Becker is awesome, you will learn much from it, greetings from the far away

  • What the fook!

  • far out!

  • awesome!!!
