  • 44 people wont get what they want

  • After listening to multiple different versions. I prefer this one.

  • Everytime I listen to Deftones, I get that lovey-dovey feeling :) no matter what song

  • Probably the only Deftones song with a guitar solo

  • @yosimite20 i've always wondered if the bridge of the "When Girls Telephone Boys" or the "Sinatra" songs couts as solo. other than that, their cover of simple man also features a solo.

  • well somebody might like this one better. I think since it's probably about his (their) brother being in a coma.. that maybe they deserve- what they want- a bit more than the other versions.

    p.s. chi's outlook...bleak. I don't think deftones is a very wealthy band, godbless them ;(

I need to donate to that shit. godDAmn me.

  • Being a fan of the smiths, muse, and deftones I must say I like this version the best. It is probably because it is the hardest version imo or probably because it is the version I feel in love with first before I knew who the other 2 bands were. although the other 2 versions are amazing also :)

  • no beef against deft ones, great band and all, but i'm not feeling this too much. Deftones should stick to what they're good at.

  • Ha the point of a cover is to try to make the song your own in a way deftones show a perfect example haters can fuck off

  • @22rawrrawr Go fuck yourself

  • I think it is very difficult to make a cover of this song, I mean changing it a bit. It doesn't give same effect to me. That's just me though.

  • Fuck John Lewis.

  • Wait... what?

  • Why do Smiths fans get so ratty about everything? People are allowed to prefer covers if they want.

  • @Hexxedchild Its because people that like older music think that being a twat comes with liking old music. Its like they think old people are ass holes so because they are so fucking hip they get to be ass holes to every one that likes throw back covers.

  • @SinfulSeamus Fuck you, stupid deftone loving grunger.

  • @Hexxedchild The hardcore Smiths fanbase generally want to emulate Morrissey in every way they can, i.e by having warped politics, a minimalist diet, arrogant persona and stupid hair, being impossible to engage in conversation, and be a bellend in most senses of the word, they can't seem to appreciate that Chino clearly likes this song and wanted to pay tribute

  • Just as bad as the Muse cover, if not worse. This is a downbeat song, what don't they get about that?

  • amaizing!!! :)

  • This song no matter who plays it gets me emotional.

  • Chino Moreno has amazing taste in bands-cocteau twins, smiths, the cure, duran duran etc....

  • This is a rather good cover. And I do prefer Deftones to The Smiths, :D

  • better than the original and you know it

  • @outlawbawla

    ha.no.

  • Morresy can fuck off !

  • @GerryB1110 first of all, you could at least spell his name correctly, *Morrissey. Why would you even say such a thing, after all he wrote this song you're listening to, and you have the nerve to say that, it's not him that needs to fuck off, it's you.

  • @EmmaCyrus12 good song , still a twat

  • Yes, it's better than Muse's version, but it still doesn't touch the original.

  • i can say this is the greatest cover i ever heard. love both Deftones and Smiths to death. won't ever stop loving them.

  • Good times for a change

    See, the luck I've had

    Can make a good man

    Turn bad

    So please please please

Let me, let me, let me

Let me get what I want

    This time

  • This just made my night

  • shit

  • strange why everything is always a competition about better or worse; subjectivity is deepened when covers cross entire 'genres' [I think genres are only useful in music shops]. In this particular instant deftones + the smiths = once in a lifetime unexpected orgasmic "hmm maybe we CAN sometimes have our cake and eat it!"

  • @cowantz yeah but some covers do really suck and lately that is how many get famous. ugh

  • Comment removed

  • This has to be one of the best covers I have ever heard....way to go Deftones!!!!

  • Definitely better than the awful Muse version, of course nothing even comes close to the original though. Nothing ever will.

  • Cool. Very cool.

  • me exploto el cerebro esta canción !! muy buena !!!

  • Muse. Solo. Better.

  • Comment removed

  • They're both great, the original and Deftones' cover, but I don't think anyone's voice can compare to Morrissey's.

  • es buena, nada comparado con la original pero al menos esta mucho mejor que la version de muse.

  • i can decide wich version i love more the orginal or this one uhhh love them both

  • I too prefer this over the Smith's version. Chino's voice delivers the emotion perfectly, as usual.

  • i dont about it being better then the smiths version, but definitely a great cover. I like how Chino flips it in one verse and says "lord knows it would be the first time". It complements my current misery.

  • @GuitarristA1quimista I mean't to say "lord knows it would be the LAST time".

  • better than the muse one.,

  • @SeasideSymphonyOFFCL A flaming bag of dogshit is better then the Muse one

  • @SeasideSymphonyOFFCL no shock surelick

  • @SeasideSymphonyOFFCL Yeah was just listening to the muse cover and was very disapointed about it! This one is beautiful!

  • yikes, great cover. deftones nailed it

  • Speaking as someone who hates this band....This cover is epic!

  • my gf is really into the smiths so when i played this song for her she was like whaaa??!! this isnt the smiths D: me : hell no deftones!!!! :D

  • @UnTrustMeNow u just dont understand lol Deftones does it perfectly

  • @UnTrustMeNow It absolutely does. That's what you don't get, it's a song about totally being ripped off and cheated out of the one thing you want in life, the distortion and the hazy sound fit perfectly with a song that's basically about spending your life depressed... The Smiths were a band about depression and the Deftones are a band about depression...

  • Desecrated the original!

  • @Kibbey12345 Oh would you look at that, youth Smiths/Morrissey fan griefing cover videos. Rare occurrence?

  • so much better than the muse cover, muse fuckin rolled it !!

  • I actually prefer this version over the Smith's

  • Ugh just listened to the She & Him version. Did not like. But, I don't really like Zooey Deschanel's voice very much to be begin with.

  • I love Muse to death, but this version has more of the original feeling, the original message of this song, the guts and such...

  • okay, this has to be my favourite cover of that song.

  • que feo cover

  • @Panchabarraza Pues parece que eres la unica que piensa así..

  • blown away!!

  • i prefer the cover by muse

  • @krisztinaaa1708 dude just quit living with u prefer muse cover.

  • One of the best covers. Actually like it better than the original

  • love the deftones. been a listner since the beginning

  • wow very well done. best cover ive heard in a long time

  • this brought tears of awesomeness to my eyes

  • que cover tan malo por la rechucha xddddd

  • Still prefer the Dream Academy version best!!!

  • @SlimKrug

ehh...i think ima stick with these guys ^.^

    Deftones FTW

  • i like the smiths and this is good too. the war is over

  • deftones are Gods

  • I love this. I don't know why people fight, all versions are different, but all good in their own right. And for the record, I'm a huge fan of Deftones, Muse and The Smiths.

  • I loooooooooove Deftones *___* !!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love this and the smiths and believe it or not dream academy.

  • Never try to cover a Smiths song.

  • Let me.....get what I want....

  • This version is ok but I like the smiths version better

  • so it's the original smiths version with electric guitars?? ooh how original

  • The Deftones aren't a really bad band, they have a particular style and that's cool but IMHO it just doesn't suit this song. But hey if you like it then more power to you.

  • wow this was great, its nice to hear the song with such energy to it,the original is also great

  • If the Deftones cover or remake a song then it has become the greatest ever.. Screw what anyone else thinks Deftones make anything beautiful. ^_^

  • Still haven't heard a bad version of this song then.

The original is alright, Muse's version is pretty good, and this is fantastic.

  • i don't like the deftones, but i think this is respectful. I like most of the smiths fans clicked on here for an excuse to complain, but i'm pleasantly surprised. I really like this as smiths covers go.

  • I love the Smiths and Deftones is my favorite band. And I think this is one of the best covers ever.

  • always thought morrisey was a whiney whimp but i did like this song but i love the sound of this remake way way better than whiney boy.

  • this comes achingly close to being better than the original! loving it so much. shda turned up the fuzz on the guitar

  • Love Chino's voice, but somehow wish the guitars weren't as heavy. Still good.

  • @ilyshane92 I know what you mean re: the guitars...but then it wouldn't have the Deftones feel to it.

  • Excellent cover, couldnt finish the muse version cuz it sounded like he was raping a cat tho

  • daaamn, blown away.. being a HUGE smiths/ morrissey fan i hate most covers of their work but deftones definitely do it some justice. didn't think for a second that they were up to it when i saw the link but i was pleasantly surprised! fuck yea deftones, good shit

  • Just because someone covers a song, doesn't mean they're trying to 'do it better'. it means they admire the original artist. wow.

    great cover.

  • sexier version of the smiths original

  • not a big deftones fan, but i think they did pretty well on this song. Honestly though i think it would be rather difficult to make a version of this song that isn't awesome.

  • @BloodyEmpire try the muse version, hurts my ears

  • @BloodyEmpire Challenge accepted. Check out the version by She and Him

  • @GracieBarraMofo i liked that version..actually better than this :)

  • @addictioner lol i lied, this is better, i dont know but i prefer she and him over the deftones just not in the case of this cover :)

  • negative reaction to this? whats wrong with ya? This soars

  • I love the death tones but I love the smiths hella more, this doesnt do any justice to morrissey, the smiths, or any of the amazing songs they ever wrote together as a band.

  • @AELLIOTT7025 You have obviously dont love them if you call them the 'death tones' . . . . .

  • Love Deftones and love The Smiths. This cover is amazing, Chino is one of the only men who could pull it off and still make it sound original. His voice is amazing.

  • Oh dear god, this is awful.

  • @conoco1 And your mom?

  • CLAYHILLS COVER = GREAT

  • Please, please, please let me get what I want, lord knows it would be the first time....

  • I don't like the Deftones, and i'm a huge the smiths fan.... and i love this cover <3

  • nice cover

i love deftones still i think the smiths one is awesome

  • just good cover...i think i want to cover 2

  • This is a cover that shouldn't work out, but it actually does.

    It really, really, really does.

    I love this.

  • imitation is the greatest form of flattery.this version sucks!

  • brave// tonnes better than matt bellamy the prick

  • Its alright but its not as good as their cover of The Cure

  • I don't think I will be listening to this version again, tonedefs is a pretty apt name

  • It's a good attempt at a better song, but I still like the Smiths version though. I am not taking anything away from the Deftones, It's just that i can connect more with the latter version. Peace

  • 26 people really should jump off the closest building rooftop... They are epic failures to being with...

  • so.... misfits sounding. but with chino lurkin around on the vocals. its absolutely perfect.

  • deftones are good and this version is better. But deftones will never fill a stadium, play as well live or put on a show like muse can

  • 26 people never got what they want

  • chino always adds his trademark melancholy to a song, it's sad but soothing at the same time. i can see why original smiths fans will be put out by his style but trust me this guy is a very special creative talent.

  • I will never understand people who are obsessed with bagging musicians for doing covers, and mostly the people are upset that it doesn't sound like the original or think that the band shouldn't of covered it. let em cover what the fuck they like, and as for making it sound the same......Why would you want something to sound the fucking same? why not go listen to the original then? I don't love this version, but I love the song choice.........Good-o!

  • im not really into heavy music but really like this cover. just goes to show the smiths have inspired the most unlikely of bands

  • When I heard this, it gave me chills. This is the best cover.

  • oh, I'm a huge Smiths fan (since mid 80s), and I love this....never heard the Deftones perform it...and btw.....I also love the Deftones.

  • enteramente weno el temaaaaa!!!!!!! guaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa deftonesssss!! the smithss !!!! yheaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa please

  • I would just like to take the time to say that MORRISSEY IS IN FACT A DEITY ON AN UNTOUCHABLE PEDESTAL.

  • love this cover. love deftones. love chino

  • Have any of you noticed how whenever they do a cover of a song by a british band, Chino actually does a british accent in some parts? :)

  • who the fck is muse anyway? if i died and came back i would be stephen and happy.

  • D:

  • mejor que el cover pobre de Muse en todo caso, creo que me agradó la versión de Deftones :B

  • I adore Muse. They’re superb. I love the Smiths. They’re also sublime. This is the best version of the song for me though, and I’m not even a fan of the Deftones.

  • idiot you wouldnt even have muse if it wasnt for deftones & the smiths. muse sucks they're un-original and repetitive. they even ripped off blondie. lame.

  • @shoretotrip Muse weren't influenced by the Deftones ... Plus Muse are incredibly original, that's why they have a hardcore following, because their old stuff was very strange, different and out there. You can't say some one is stupid whilst you rave non-sensical bullshit on a youtube comment. And, how exactly did they rip-off Blondie?

  • @Incubus941

Actually Matt Bellamy has credited the Deftones as being one of his influences. AND if you ever watch the Muse concert on Palladia, they actually play the riff of the Deftones song "Headup" in the transition from one song to the next. Perhaps paying homage to their infleunce...

Stop making statements when you have nothing to back it up with.

  • @Incubus941

Just search Muse Headup riff on youtube.

If thats not influence, then Mother Theresa was a bad person and Keith Richards is healthy.

  • idiot you wouldnt even have muse if it wasnt for deftones & the smiths. muse sucks they're un-original and repetitive. they even ripped off blondie. lame.

  • @shoretotrip You talk alot of shit man

  • I think this version is better than Muse's. But Muse are generally better at covering songs, see "Feeling Good" or "House of the Rising Sun". The Smiths version of this, however, is the best. And I think Muse is the better of all three bands. On all their albums (except their newest one) Muse deliver one amazing song after another, hardly ever a dull moment. But the Smiths can be a bit overly-melacholic and the Deftones can be just plain dull at times.

  • Hey Smiths fanboys, get off your fucking high horse. Yes Morrissey was a great singer, but he's not some deity on an untouchable pedestal. Deftones did great justice to this song. They're one of the best rock bands out there, due in no small part to Chino Moreno's amazing vocal talents. Keep whining though, it makes the "pretentious indie fag" label look all the more true.

  • @BDizDaBest true but what you mean was, he stills sings don't kill him D:

  • @mtyrollerderby Yeah that's very true, my bad. For the record I'm a big Smiths fan, Morrissey is a genius and Marr is sublime as well...

  • @BDizDaBest

Not whining, this is a decent "cover."

Emotion, even if over a broken friendship bead (likely), is felt here, nice, congrats.

The whole crying, "Chino moreno... pretentious indie fag..." yeah, umm, no, the original is here, I was here, you weren't, you were too busy sucking on mama's teet, or whaterver, to be here for the '80s & '90s music era.

Deftones, fine, not great, NOT SMITHS, sorry, magnificenthomo27.

  • @yankslosewoohoo HEY! shut the fuck up. Bye.

  • @BDizDaBest I don't think they did justice at all. I think they butchered it, personally.

  • @j3s0n fuck you ,your opinion is wrong =)

  • @leeanne0812 if u say so.

  • @BDizDaBest As an indie fag, I love this song, love the DTones. Chino did a great job! This version is righteous to say the least. Johny Marr is a huge deftones fan. Take it from a smiths fan.

  • @crookedrain333 but dude why would you call yourself an indie 'fag' if you're not closedminded/elitist like them???

  • @BDizDaBest Haha well...It just so happens, that I am kinda gay, and I'm an indie kid. So I am an Indie Fag lol. On a side note, I just bought Stephens 7 string baritone, and love it to death.

  • @BDizDaBest Tone Deaf homophobe. You wouldn't know good music if it bit you in the ass.

  • @RelaxedEnergy lol aww did I offend the wittle indie fag? I already said I like the Smiths and Morrissey...it's just that Deftones take massive wet shits all over them and every other indie group combined. No big deal.

  • @BDizDaBest What offends me is that you call this crap music. Your ignorance is astonishingly multi-dimensional.

  • @RelaxedEnergy lol you're the one acting like Mr. Music Authority trying to pass off your (shitty) opinions as facts, yet I'M the one showing "ignorance"? That's a pretty big word for an autistic jackass such as yourself, and I don't think you're using it correctly so maybe you oughta look it up in the dictionary again. Oh, and while you're at it, look up "irony" next, rectumrammer. lol

  • @RelaxedEnergy lol crapmusic

  • @BDizDaBest i think i love you lol.

  • @BDizDaBest no.

  • @BDizDaBest fuck u !

  • @BDizDaBest I love the smiths and have to agree with you. musically this is great.

  • @BDizDaBest Great justice ? Are you fucking kidding me ? THEY MURDERED IT.

  • @dirkbogarde44

Dear Butt Hurt Dirk, be more open minded please. This is a good cover from a band who grew up listening to the smiths, I can appreciate their style is different but at least it's honest and isn't trying to show off like the Muse version.

  • @boredomtube There's only one way you can do this song. You can't overlay loads of heavy fuzz guitars over the top of it and hope to do anything other than kill the essence of the song. If they listened to The Smiths, they obviously didn't learn anything.

  • @dirkbogarde44

Hmmm, what would be the point in studiously recreating the sound of the smiths to cover them? there is nothing more humdrum than a band churning out a carbon copy of an existing song in my opinion.

Anyway regardless, each to their own i suppose, as we know, taste is subjective, the most important thing is to throw away all pretensions and critique honestly.

  • @dirkbogarde44 Herp derp musical retard alert!

  • @BDizDaBest ....that was perfect!

  • @BDizDaBest You're totally right. And I love Deftones as much as You do but in one point you're wrong. Chino is a good singer and has a goog coive but i's no "amazing talent" when You're singing every song this slow and boring. But his screaming is awesome. And I couldn't imagine a better Deftones singer.

  • 3. muse

    .

    .

    .

    .

    2. Deftones, respectfulley.

    1. THE SMITHS THE SMITHS THE SMITHS

  • I just listened to the Muse cover. I think it's terrible to be honest. Oh well, no one can match The Deftones.

  • @chaoticcorpse except in this case the smiths could..
