  • I read a kosovo peacekeepers short memoir on Kindle, The Kosovo Princess. I never knew how difficult it was, and probably still is, over there.

  • ha @0:45 'can use open da boot.. playse' and lt holland sounds like tommy tiernan.

  • 0:45 Now thats what ya call a Dublin accent : )

  • i say irish defence force and britih army team up

  • @benjsy We have done plenty of times! It worked out just fine as it would with any professional army.

  • @benjsy Same

  • can u open da booth

  • @StormtroopeR003 whats your point ?

  • gud owl irish giving a helping hand to other countries....

  • @StormtroopeR003 several contacts in lebanon, congo, east timor ,chad, eritrea. Always as peace keeping force as ireland remains a neutral country, though i don't think it will be long before we are sent to afghanistan under EU pressure. Irish defence force also play vital role in EU rapid reaction force

  • @MrLeggy11 I'm Irish although long gone as it were. I am proud of the way those Irish guys do their job, you can see in the body language and way they talk. I don't however want to see them dropped into Afgpak/Iraq to take the heat that the Yanks have created, then we'll see deaths. I know Ireland is part of ISAF, just don't know to what extent.

  • @CycleGranCanaria man Im a yank, and look I really dont like the fact that when one country is in a war other countries have to help. I respect your military and think its a great example of well disciplined troops. As far as Afghanistan goes, Al Qaeda started that war on 9/11. And Iraq is about over so I wouldnt worry about that.

  • if i were the president id continue to carry out these peace missions though we should not object to deploying our troops in areas such as palestine not for war but to defend the defendless

  • join NATO

  • one of the best trained armies in Europe, pity we arent larger in numbers

  • is that the general service or special forces?

  • more than likely general

  • Regular Army.

  • the irish know whats good

    they use austrian weapons ^^

  • good work lads, god bless, keep it up!

  • The Irish have vast experience in peace-keeping operations. I remember reading that Irish UN troops were killed in the Congo in the 1960s. My uncle was in the Irish Army's Construction Corps, my cousin was in Aer Corps na hEireann. Well done Irish Defence Forces.

  • i remember hearing about that Congo incident actually. My stepdads friend was involved. Is there any info on the web about it?

  • ireland has troops almost everywhere

  • @sarsfieldusmc No they are currently only deployed in Kosovo, Lebanon and Chad. Actually I think they have withdrawn from those places now. I don't know what you mean by "almost everywhere"

  • I would love to join. I doubt I'd be fit enough though. Plus I'm 24 so I'd have less than a year to get fit. I asked before and they said I could only do a cadetship. I'd love too do general service.

  • oh shit my dad arrived over there just 3 days after all this happened

  • Don't worry this happened in 2004,things are quiet there now.

  • no all miss type ^^

  • no we spend all on the army we have loads of good stuff just not enough men

  • u irish r very peaceful. thats probly tha reason u got rich. instead of wasting money on massive military development, u waste it on more resourceful stuff.

  • well said.couuld ya do it any other way.fuck war

  • im out here with the americans ( not in the army) in Kosovo and can see waht a great job the boys are doing . makes me proud to be irish

  • i cant wait to start doing this stuff.

im goin to sarsfield barracks to enlist 2morrow

  • when did all this happen

  • Paddy's Day 2004 of all days!

  • rte :o

  • PROUD TO HEAR THIS

  • Big Kiss 4 the Brave Boys from old Erin!

  • its amazing isnt it, im from the uk and i think its great that a country the size of ireland at least makes an effort to do their bit in international conflict and have an army while its not exactly the scale of the uk MoD its still a hell of an effort to make a force as a small country il tell u we should make that sort of effort

  • Excellent comment.

  • well said

  • good point Jonathon

  • @jonathanbain14 The Irish army,as small as it is, is probably the most skilled ( the ARW that is) than any other army brigade in the world.Probably because they are constantly training and the fact that the average yearly acceptance rate is 0.8 persons.

  • @jonathanbain14 lol well said man im irish at least someone english like you can see where a god force :D

  • @jonathanbain14 You sure make a good point. Other British would say Irish army is shit. Good on ya.

  • God, my Dads leading the troops in Chad right now, hope it dosnt get out of hand.

  • I hope so too.

  • thnx for uploading this gorgeous video of our pride the Irish Army

  • very nice video.God bless the Irish Army.

  • thought it was 10 500?

  • i think we have more

  • greets from me (W.Germ) god save u and Irland

  • long live ireland im hoping to go back to the old country when i get out of the canadian army

  • im going to be a sniper over with d irish when im older

  • God bless Irish troops!

  • cant w8 gonna be a medic over dere wen im older:D

  • im going to join the fca irish army reserve when im old enough

  • im in it mate , one thing , you have to wait for everything lolol

  • ye u defintely should, youll have the best time of your life

  • these lads really dont get enough air time anyone see the late late show on the 4th april? intresin stuff, check it out on the rte web site.

    hahaha the dub was great!

    ''can ya open da boot?''

    classic!

keep up the good work lads. yas make me proud to be irish.

  • open the bleeding boot

  • My son left for Kosovo on Tuesday..This video has scared the sh..t out of me!!! He told me it was safe over there!!

  • Your son is among (and is one of) Ireland's finest

  • I've just been myself and can vouch that he will be fine. God willing.

  • Irish troops participating in the continuing partition of a country by an external force.

Irony, but at least they seem to be making an attempt at stopping Albanian aggression.

  • great vid man fair play to the lads showing once again that theyre a professional dedicated and humane force

  • Great post. thanks. PDF need to be recognised. and it looked like a riot, but more like a larger unarmed uprising. "barrage of missiles"

  • Well done all the Irish Defence Forces, we are proud of you.

  • No it wasn't combat it was just a riot, and the snipers are not ARW.

  • gonna sound real walter mitty but was this actual combat or riots

  • would those snipers not have been arw?

  • there are snipers in the army not just the arw

  • The Sniper's were NOT ARW. A sniper can come from nearly all Units from the Army, but Mostly Infantry/Cav/Arty.

  • i agree with varmint527

the world would be in anarchy without countries like ireland and sweden and norway helping in the UN

  • And don't forget the Danes ! cause for a small country they send a hell of a lot of their boys to the worlds hot spots eg, Basra Iraq, Helmand province Afghanistan )

Its a pity that us Welsh don't get recognised as well cause We're clumped under " British " along with the Scots. ( no offence to the English ) Well done Ireland your showing what a small independent nation can do ! Go Celtic Tigers (Hope you get safely home to Éire )

  • great post...the PDF dont get enough airtime on national tv

  • Definitely.

  • Great video
