  • I must be dense. I've replayed this several times what is that third chord?

  • @Katmido302 Do you mean what is its name? Or where is it played? Or how is it played? It's played at "granddaddy" and comes and goes very quickly. It's played the same as the G chord except instead of the index finger on the second fret it's moved up to the third fret. So, both fingers are on the same fret, but on different strings. The name? Well...probably it's basically a C. Depends on how many strings you strum. If you get them all, I suppose it's more of a Gsus4 chord.

  • Whew! That was fun. Thanks!

  • yay! this is exactly what I was looking for! no twiddly simple chord song! hooray! cheers mate :)

  • Glad to help. But, just out of curiousity, what does "twiddly" mean?

  • I guess I mean just chords no picking!

  • You know, I may be wrong, but I think after the G that may be G7, I played that chord a while ago and it reminded me of that line.

  • Well, I think you should play it the way you feel it. The video of Steve doing it solo mandolin (from 1991) on youtube has him playing just a G. That's the one I was listening too. You can actually see (and hear) what he's playing on that verison.

  • thanks a lot-this has been really useful. Please post some more

  • For mandolin? I was thinking about doing one for "Galway Girl" because so many people mentioned it, but I put up a video and haven't really seen much interest. Are you?

  • any simple song you put up i will watch..i just started playin mando and playin along really helps

  • wow.... most helpful turtorial i;ve come across so far:) Thanks!

  • we do care!

    thanks for sharing

  • what if you started the video by playing through the tune once - then go into your monologue after

  • I have a different video where I play it through the whole way. I intended it to go with these lessons. You will find it on my channel.

  • Thanks for this . Your lessons are really helpful and it seems so natural for you..You are a cutie!! Most definitely...Wish I was the one that messed up your hair!!

  • You're welcome.

What messed up hair? That's what I call one well-organized coiffure.

  • I did enjoy the lesson and it made me want to get out my mandolin. So how about another lesson ..maybe wildwood flower or Galway girl??? Now that I have sweet talked to you please post another lesson.

  • Shit!!

You just can't help rockin out dude :)

  • Sir,

I don't know how. But some how between you and the tableture you pointed me to I think I damn near got it figured out. Thank you sir. I couldn't have done it without you. Please let me know if you add more mando lessons. Randy

  • You're certainly welcome. Tab wasn't enough for me either. It took me years to be able to figure out how to play a song from tab. Really, the secret was to read the tab and try to play while actually listening to the song, but I didn't realize that.

You'll know if there are more mandolin videos.

  • thank you so much..my bro always had a mandolin i never really played it..thanks for teachin me!!!!!

  • My fingers are SO SORE now because I watched your video and now I can't stop playing Copperhead Road on the mandolin! You're a good soul, bro. Thanks so much for posting this.

    Peace....

  • No problem. Mandolins can be a bit painful, but eventually, the two strings don't dig in as much as single strings. So, they have that going for them.

  • what a dork

  • Well, I'm certainly not as cool as someone who has the courage to anonymously insult some stranger.

  • Thanks, I have wanted to learn this one for awile.

  • You're welcome.

  • hello, by any chance do you have the mandolin tabs for it

  • i got them online. Google "copperhead road mandolin tab" it's the first link
