What a great guy to post his expertise on the net. I found it tremendously useful - trying to play Monti's Csardas. Thanks - he's got a good heart - and good luck
Hi solidxhk, Sorry to take so long getting to your question. A good bow can make all the difference. I have page dedicated to the subject on my website, toddehle(dot)com. Good luck!
I play with my thumb under the frog. I have played this way for 40 years. I get a nice sound for the swing jazz stuff that I like. Is it possible to play Sautille with the thumb under the frog?
i like when u give more than video on the same techniques. sautille is hard! id love to play der erikoenig but i want to achieve sautille first! thanks for the videos:)
im starting to notice that when i start to do sautille, my fingers doesn't move the whole way the colle is done. when i only move my fingers a little and leave the rest to my wrist. is that alright? do i have to stretch my fingers just like how the colle is done? or is it just normal to reduce the finger movement and add wrist to performing sautille?
Hi nicowolfangs, The motion is very small and you will hardly see it, but the fingers should feel "loose." From what you've written, it sounds like you are on the right track. Trust your ears to determine if it is the correct sound. Also, make sure to keep the bow hand relaxed. Good luck!
professorV, ur videos have been a great help. Thanks a lot! i have a question though, will sautille be used in a piece like the 3rd movt of schumann's 1st sonata in a minor or would you use a spiccato there? i'm having a bit of trouble doing a spiccato.
awesome! i have been practicing sautille for one whole year. sometimes they work, sometimes it's more like banging a bow on the strings. watching 3 parts of your video changes my practice way on sautille and these methods really works! thanks a lot
tq it is a good idea but my 1 n 2 fingers still slow if just change to 1 n 3 i think same problem... did professor hav any idea to make the fingers faster in Sautille
You are great teacher. I am 30 years old from Ukraine, and I was taught to play piano when I was a kid, then I learned myself to play guitar. Recently I bought a violin and almost gave up, because there's too much unobvious things there. And then I found your lessons, which helped me to understand many things. Maybe I would not play Bach's Chaconne on a violin properly :-), but your lessons inspired me to continue to master a violin, which is such a wonderful instrument.
professor, i had watched all yr video. i really learn a lot. As i know there are 3 types of spiccato. bounce spiccato, brush spiccato, and flying spiccato. if i not mistaken, the spiccato u show us in the video clip is flying spiccato. can u make a video to show us what technique we use when we play brush sppicato and bounce spiccato? sorry to trouble u. anyway, thanks a lot...
hey professor, i had watched benchan video clip about spiccato. as i noitce is the bowing and sound produce by this 2 techinique is same. may i know what is the different between sautille and spiccato?
Hi again, Sautille is a very fast spicatto. Spicatto can be very slow and controlled, but as you get faster it become this type of stroke (the technique is different). TE

Sir i'd like to Thank you and ask. How important of a role does the bow play in the ability of performing these techniques? does it matter at all?
Should a good player be able to play anything regardless of what bow they have?
Im a Post grade 8 player and i've been using at 50 dollar boy for most of my grades. but im not sure if a new bow or more practise is what i need.
