WOW sooooo how many awesome songs did i miss out on by only watching the DVD and does anyone know what the name of the first song he plays on the dvd is im trying to get the synth tones from my GR55, so far its going well
jeff is wife cousin she' she didn't tell me until after five years of marriage guess she thought i would run away with him to play LOL cause i play guitar also. she has a photo of him when he was very young'wife said that when he was in his teens years he would love to play his guitar and had got very good at it. i ask her if she would be able to get in touch with him because i would love to jam out with him to get to know and that he is my nephew by marriage. would not do this for money...
Does anybody else feel like we were cheated by the brevity of JB's performance on the dvd @ Clapton's festival this year? He was just getting warmed up and suddenly it was over
and now, I have seen the 'official' DVD that Eric Clapton's 'people' put out . and this performance of Jeff's group, doing "I Want to take You Higher" did *NOT* make the cut for that DVD. that is a travesty. I was there at Toyota Park, in Bridgeview, outside of Chicago, Illinois, on that sweaty July day... and it was one of the best days of my life. The *whole thing* should be preserved, I can't believe that the DVD removed "Wanna Take U Higher'
Jennifer Batten told me he also plays his special way, cuz she tried his equipment and couldnt get the sound until Jeff used it, then it was there, lol. 40 years working at it I guess!
Dont'cha just love Jeff's suspenders...a regular Jr. Larry King. What's with the foil coated duct tape around the upper arm ? Is Jeff channeling cosmic energy into his fingertips ?
The Crossroads DVDs are starting to look like something really special. I know that the Clapton "Tell the Truth" on the 2nd one gives me goosebumps! I can't wait for the next one.
Not a chance in hell I'll look this good when I'm 66 years old!! Maybe there is something to be said about vegetarianism, which Jeff has practised for over 30 or 40 years! Assuming there will be a Crossroads DVD every year now, I hope this will be on it, with all the pro camera and sound, and more songs.
I love this crossroads series...got the others and cant wait for this on dvd! Anyone know what Jeff B usually has on his setup re:distortion box, or what kind, etc? I know most of it comes from his own playing...
@ellonysman To the best of my knowledge (partly from an interview I read from 2003 as well as other interviews), he likes a "Snarling Dog Whine-o-Wah", which he also would use in a fixed position to get an intense sort of "howling" sound. Also, he's definately using a ring modulator on occasion to get that strange dissonant, but appealingly, unearthly sort of "evil" sound. They're a bit hard to adjust, and most players don't use them. Also, a bit of occasional delay from the board. (Next post)
@ellonysman Also, he's using some sort of chorus pedal or something to produce a rotary speaker sound on occasion, and he has used a power boost of some sort to top off the distortion from his Marshall DSL 2000 (I think it is). But you're right- just as I've said "on occasion" several times, the rest is just from him, his fingers (no pick- just the nail from his index used like a pick for speed playing), guitar and amp!
@ellonysman For distortion, Jeff cranks the Marshalls / Fender amp combos and also has used a Pro Co Rat distortion pedal for many years. He backs off on the volume when playing cleanly and notice that when he wants to wail, he turns up the guitar volume. Jeff constantly plays with his guitar volume settings. The amps are set on very high volume and the tone settings are basically set flat or off.
@fess04 hes moved on at least for now. thats narada michael walden, who is better at fast songs like hammerhead but probly not quite as good at the slower stuff
fan-freakin'-tastic!!!!!! love the 3 trading off on vocals and jeff casual this day in jeans. love, love, love. they deserve a week off until the next leg of the tour. narada and smith an awesome duo and rebello really workin' it! my 5th JB performance this year. j wore the hat for the final number which was Nessun Dorma. thanks and good work on this one ;-))
@towjambo do you recall the tune Jeff mashed into or from Corpus Christi Carol? stil trying to remember it, too overwhelmed from this day, performance etc..
They were un-fuckin-real! Narada is sick on drums, Rhonda is insane on bass, and Jason is killer also. Put it together and you've got a wall of sound coming from 4 people! They were the highlight of the show, and most people who were there would agree. AWESOME!
@JillyJumper I was at the 2007 and 2010 shows and Jeff stole both shows for sure.
My one observation about the 2 bass players, Tal was just a dream to watch as her bass work complemented Jeff's playing so well. Rhonda was a whole different level, for the first time ever I saw a bass player that matched his play and intensity to perfection.
Cheers, it sure was one fine day in the heat down in the blue wrist band zone!
