I refuse to believe the supposed return to reality, there were so many scenes skipped that would explain things a bit more, but were left out. First of all, Kobb has been in limbo longer than Saito has, yet Saito is an old man. Why would it take Kobb so long to find Saito? 2ndly, how did the others all get back from the level 1 dream state? They had no kick, so did they wait the whole week out until they woke up? I've about ran out of room, so I'll leave it there. Either way, best movie of 2010.

This was THE greatest movie ever! And if you think about it the basis of this movie was VERY very simple. They invade someones dream and try to change his mind. But just the extensiveness and in-depth detail of this movie makes it so good. Once it comes out on DVD I plan to watch it at least 20 times

Gotta say, i disagree respectfully. While many of the positive things you pointed out were valid, for me a movie's strength is in its re-playability. Can you re-watch it again and find things you didn't find before? You can't. This movie may be epic, but it's fairly linear, and the story itself is extraordinarily simple. It's a convaluted plot I'll admit ( a dream within a dream, etc.),
I mean the anti-gravity fight (which you admit has nothing to do with the story) is just kind of a gimmick.

I wish you would realize that there's about 4 interpretation to this movie that are DIRECTLY hinted at by Nolan that completely change the meaning of the movie depending on which one you choose- like a choose your own adventure book. Christopher Nolan is a genius and the fact that you people are putting 2 of his own films against eachother makes no sense. He made both of them!! Both AMAZING! I have seen this film twice. The first time i was quite confused. The second time I saw it, not only did i understand everything and enjoy this movie A LOT more, but it was so outstanding it is now my second favourite movie ever made. My favourite movie is also a Christopher Nolan movie - The Dark Knight. BOTH films are mind blowing, performances and the direction are brilliant and... I was a fan of the movie aswell, but it seemed to me as if the entire movie could have been built around the whole anti-grav hallway scene. It gets points for originality and concept, but i feel that Nolan made it more complex than he had to. I felt that if he explained it more the movie would have gone over better.

Inception - Brilliant! It left me kind of stunned. Yes, I too have just been constantly pondering on the movie's concepts since I saw it 2 days ago. I re-run scenes of it over and over in my head. How a movie 'sticks' is generally how I rate how much I enjoyed it. I can't recall being this caught up with any other movie like I have with Inception. I will definitely see it more than once at the cinema.
The movie explains the plot every 15 minutes.. Movies are about showing, not telling. You tell children, not a mature audiance. I came in with the same feeling I had when I came out. There are no emotions, no depth in character, no turning points. This movie just didn't touched you emotionaly at all, it is just an "idea" or "concept" brought to you trough the audio visual medium, this is no cinema. The art of cinema is about unraveling and aproaching the human truth. Inception failed miserably.

Inception and TDK can't compare. The Dark Knight was an average action movie at best, mixed in with a very good performance from Heath Ledger, but that's the only stand-out thing. Christian Bale was very wooden. Inception, unlike TDK, isn't over-rated; in a way, it's under-rated. I say that because no matter how many good things you hear about it, you wil still be blown away. Period.

But the it does remind me of a little film from the 80's called "Dreamscape" about a guy who can go into ppls dreams.
My fave part in relation to the storyline was that they had upto about 5 realities/time spaces (if you include being awake and the fully subconcious dreaming state), all going at once, but they depicted it so well that you were completely aware of where each character was in each state and what they were doing. They made it simple in its complexity. And yeah, the zero gravity fight sequence was mind blowing =D
i left the theater at 9pm and its now 1 am and im watching this review and you're totally right about it. im reading up as much as i can about peoples ideas as to what they thought happened, what they think its about and what its not about. im gonna have to go see this again.
The anti-gravity scene was perfect because Nolan was smart enough to use old-fashioned analogue technology rather than digital technology (a la Matrix) which even in 2010, wouldn't have produced the same effect. Respect.

The only thing carrying this movie is it's special effects and even that is stupid....the characters, plot and story line are not even complete...or worth following...there is no redeeming value to this movie....Overly hyped movie that fails to deliver.
i gotta say this movie was epic. fantastic. frickin amazing. but as for acting...i was so surprised that in the beginning of the movie i felt like Leo was not acting up to par...i was thinking, "is this even Leonardo DiCaprio!?" however, in the middle his superb acting skills kick into gear and made me remember why i watch all his movies.

@mgardene I am astonished that you would say that this movie is very linear or not replayable.I found the complete opposite to be true. I wish you would realize that there's about 4 interpretation to this movie that are DIRECTLY hinted at by Nolan that completely change the meaning of the movie depending on which one you choose- like a choose your own adventure book. The movie itself is an Inception on the audience. If you think I'm overthinking this than you should give Nolan more credit.

Christopher Nolan is a genius and the fact that you people are putting 2 of his own films against eachother makes no sense. He made both of them!! Both AMAZING! The Dark Knight is one of my favorite movies of all time not because of Heath Ledger (although he was one of the greatest aspects[Chris Nolan casted him and people disagreed until they saw the performance]) but because Nolan is a genius. Cobb's wife as the main "villain" of inception pales in comparison.

I have seen this film twice. The first time i was quite confused. The second time I saw it, not only did i understand everything and enjoy this movie A LOT more, but it was so outstanding it is now my second favourite movie ever made. My favourite movie is also a Christopher Nolan movie - The Dark Knight. BOTH films are mind blowing, performances and the direction are brilliant and... I just cant say how much I ADORE both of these movies. The Dark Knight and Inception are my two best ever films.

I was a fan of the movie aswell, but it seemed to me as if the entire movie could have been built around the whole anti-grav hallway scene. It gets points for originality and concept, but i feel that Nolan made it more complex than he had to. I felt that if he explained it more the movie would have gone over better.

INCEPTION is a very very good movie! the scenes in no gravity were unbelivebles-AWSOME- but still, in my opinion THE DARK KNIGHT was better- not just because of heath ledger-but because he has an intense unique way from start to finish-and every time i see it gets better! i saw inception two times and second time dont bring anything new to me after the first time! just me opinion

2nd about the subject of the film being original I'd have to disagree, I think this subject had been worked many times The Cell, The Matrix, Paprika, Existenz and others but the original part was never in this way. I think it was the personal way he put the romance, the heist, the alternate realities and the action together that was original. Other than that totally agree

this movie is more of a action packed show which kinda use the dream sequences as a platform to show many action scenes. Not so much a "dream like" movie. to be honest, its good, but the dreams are just not "dreamy/surreal" enough.

Inception - Brilliant! It left me kind of stunned. Yes, I too have just been constantly pondering on the movie's concepts since I saw it 2 days ago. I re-run scenes of it over and over in my head. How a movie 'sticks' is generally how I rate how much I enjoyed it. I can't recall being this caught up with any other movie like I have with Inception. I will definitely see it more than once at the cinema.

The movie explains the plot every 15 minutes.. Movies are about showing, not telling. You tell children, not a mature audiance. I came in with the same feeling I had when I came out. There are no emotions, no depth in character, no turning points. This movie just didn't touched you emotionaly at all, it is just an "idea" or "concept" brought to you trough the audio visual medium, this is no cinema. The art of cinema is about unraveling and aproaching the human truth. Inception failed miserably.

The movie was on a deeper level than most people realize ie. the MATRIX. Leo's character at the end is asked was this his world, the background is falling apart. This is representative of the world we live in today an illusion that is beginning to unravel. Peep how they needed to inject the person with something in order to get into their dreams VACCINES.They now have a VACCINE that eats brain tissue to cure alcoholism and things like that. Inception and TDK can't compare. The Dark Knight was an average action movie at best, mixed in with a very good performance from Heath Ledger, but that's the only stand-out thing. Christian Bale was very wooden. Inception, unlike TDK, isn't over-rated; in a way, it's under-rated. I say that because no matter how many good things you hear about it, you wil still be blown away. Period.

"The Dark Knight was an average action movie at best" - However, clearly you didn't understand the movie that much. Heath Ledger WAS one of the best parts of the movie, but there is more to what makes it an incredible movie then just Heath.
It's more than just an action flick. It also could be labelled as one of the best dramas of its kind since The Departed

@LauryKOS Not really. Heath Ledger may have indeed been the best aspect of the film, but even when you look at the film without him, it is still incredibly brilliant. I think Heath Ledger just added to the brilliance.
I liked Inception better, but The Dark Knight is still truly ONE OF THE greatest films of the decade.
What makes Inception, The Dark Knight or any other Nolan films so amazing is Nolan himself. Heath was the highlight of TDK, but without Nolan, even Heath couldn't have saved it.

Christian Bale was pretty rough in my opinion, Heath Ledger was great, Maggie Gyllenhaal was decent, and Aaron Eckhart was good. I think the ensemble is Inception is better, but that's just me. I never said TDK isn't complex (although I do not think it is) and I don't think Inception is as complex as everyone thinks. Done. Any comments

LOL Rant over back to the review..... good review I'm defiantley going to check this movie out. Yeah its good to see Hollywood/director bringing something fresh to the table. But the it does remind me of a little film from the 80's called "Dreamscape" about a guy who can go into ppls dreams.

My fave part in relation to the storyline was that they had upto about 5 realities/time spaces (if you include being awake and the fully subconcious dreaming state), all going at once, but they depicted it so well that you were completely aware of where each character was in each state and what they were doing. They made it simple in its complexity. And yeah, the zero gravity fight sequence was mind blowing =D

The anti-gravity scene was perfect because Nolan was smart enough to use old-fashioned analogue technology rather than digital technology (a la Matrix) which even in 2010, wouldn't have produced the same effect. Respect.

Inception is just an action film masquerading as a thinking man's film, but the action is neither thrilling nor interesting. The only thing carrying this movie is it's special effects and even that is stupid....the characters, plot and story line are not even complete...or worth following...there is no redeeming value to this movie....Overly hyped movie that fails to deliver.

i gotta say this movie was epic. fantastic. frickin amazing. but as for acting...i was so surprised that in the beginning of the movie i felt like Leo was not acting up to par...i was thinking, "is this even Leonardo DiCaprio!?" however, in the middle his superb acting skills kick into gear and made me remember why i watch all his movies.
