  • This week in Rio Blanco, Veracruz, the worlds largest flower bloomed after 40 years of dormancy. This is the natural cycle of the Amorphophallus Titanum. This unique flower, originally from Indonesia, blooms for a short three to five days and even then, only once every 40 years. To attract the insects that will perform the important task of pollen exchange, this gorgeous flower gives off the scent of rotting meat, earning it the apt nickname Flor Cadavérica Flower of Death.

  • @Sol57 BBC says 10 years....where did you get your info

  • @TheEmarbe - Not sure anymore about the source. It's was cut and pasted from an article somewhere about the bloom in Veracruz.

40 years does seem a stretch!

Kew Gardens website: "This species has proved very difficult to cultivate, and there are only a handful of places in the world that do so. Even under optimum conditions the plant takes about six years to flower from seed"

Likely, 40 years is all wrong. Thank you!
