  • I'm will to bet some moron who was talking on their cell phone in their car and not paying attention pulled out in front of the truck and the driver tried to react but lost control. Unfortunately it happens too often, its one thing that I worry about when responding to fire myself.

  • There's about $650,000 now made useless.

  • it was an accident. They were probably trying to get to the scene as quickly as possible.Put yourself in the person whose property was ablaze and tell me,wouldn't you want the firefighters there as quickly as possible? They wanted to get their b4 someone was hurt or property was lost.If you look at the all the accidents around the US and you will see firefighter accidents are among the lowest. So support all the firefighters.

  • what year was the truck?

  • @RBujak729 That i'm not sure of.

  • Do these guys get any training? Somebody needs to be fired.

  • @MrDanieldb Nope...no training at all...They just find the first person willing to drive and say GO!!! Yes, they receive training prior to being promoted to an apparatus operator or engineer position. It involves a written test, driving test and in some departments an oral interview as well. In addition, the driver also has to obtain a class A license from the DMV prior to promotion. Its an accident man...Nobody needs to be fired!!!

  • That.......would really suck

  • At 10 if you look at the skid marks you can tell they took the corner way to fast

  • im not cleaning that up

  • got a headset?

  • its easy to flip any fire apparatus due to it being so top heavy...tillers were basically designed to fit it very tight city like areas...beacause you can swing the ass end out wide and straighten ur self out..if the tractor portion were to turn right down an alley the tiller man who rides in the rear will actually turn opposite so the ass end kicks out and straightens it...

  • thats a pierce rig not cheap i make them

  • Question for you then. How are Tiller's built? Is it just a tractor unit thats hooked to the ladder portion or how does that work?

  • yes sort of but it is not your typical 5th weel. the ladder turn table and trailer (if you will) are atleast from what ive seen are permenatly hitched to the tractor. its rather interesting tho cuz other than the cab and the ladder the entier unit is built in one bay. the ladder is put on at a diffrent plant. i should rephrase what i do the rool up doors that you see on the trailer body i put those on

  • They must back the tractor into the ladder unit once its finished then attach it? That must be one big bay because aren't tillers longer then a typical ladder truck?

  • actually as soon as the tractor is drivable its attached to the body frame then backed into the tiiller bay, then the body is assymbled bottom up sometimes with a little water tank most of the time with out. and the cab comes equiped with any basic option you want ems compartmants single axel dual axel any thing. i dont know the exact length of a tiller but im pretty sure its shorter than your standard 53' semi

  • Interesting..Thanks for taking the time to explain that to me, I've always wondered how those were built. I've seen on Ultimate Factories how your 100' ladder truck is built, I wish they would do another one this time building a tiller.

  • i can not find that video any were on the internet wish i could. not many people know this but oshkosh truck is a parent company to pierce along with JLG scissors lifts jerdann tow trucks and theres more lol but i cant spell it for shit so i cant tell ya but its garbage trucks

  • I can't find the video of Ultimate factories being at Pierce watching the 100' ladder truck being built either. I have it recorded on DVR though! :D I knew that Oshkosh truck was a parent company of pierce because they talked about it in that segment when they talked about the TAK4 suspension that pierce has on their trucks that oshkosh orignally developed

  • The rear counter stear for the tiller or rear operator was correct, the driver (front guy) took the turn WAY too fast. Slow down, the equipment and personnel do no good if you don't make it to the call!

  • dumb ass!!!!

  • I agree with you, that was weird question to ask. I would think it would be really easy to flip those things if your not careful

  • @arohn2007 there are no stupid questions in the fire service.... good to learn new things

  • How in the world do u flip a tiller??

  • guy in front turned one way, guy in the back turned the other way.

  • uhhh thats how tillers work, rear turns opposite that the front does. they both turned the same way to flip it

  • damn shame you were not there to coach them then

  • @jlokers That's not always true. Sometimes the tillerman never turns to wheel and just lets the tractor take him through the intersection. Both turning the same direction should not have flipped the rig unless it was a severe, sudden turn. Having tillered a ladder with the City Of Albany, NY for many years I just can't see how that would have happened. However, I wasn't there so I'm just guessing at this point.

  • @zachm2448 Or they fly around the corner way to fast.

  • @68Engine68 That too. I don't really know what it was to be honest. But whatever it was i'm sure it was avoidable.

  • @zachm2448 Yeah deffinatly, its all fun and games till you roll the tiller.

  • @HilaryHaylieRocks08 Ok what happened was the guy in front was going WAY TOO FAST and tried to take the turn, guy in the back couldnt turn quick enough. The tillerman is a family friend of ours

  • @awatters1993 ohh ok gotcha thanks

  • You said left right? Right, no left!
