@robbieo07 it takes one to know one.... Your just jealous dude... Hes had more hot woman than a toilet seat at Victorias Secret.. And.. hes smart enough not to get married and get himself into messy divorces
My fav VH album - great guitars. I kick myself in the ass, I had a chance to see this show and I got in trouble and my parents wouldn't let me go. I did see them in 1982 though and they played some off Fair Warning. Unfortunately I thought Diver Down was their worst album, or half cover album
I was there in the Front Row in the OAKTOWN ARENA..What a FUCKING NIGHT!!! This was when America was truly Great and A Kick-Ass Nation. Now we have such shit music..Rap and Hip-Hop that is destroying the culture of America. Long Live VH!!!!!!
@vangelis721 --- Greatest time in rock history.......the mighty VH rocking Oakland.......chicks throwing their panties onstage......Eddie rippin' it up.......Dave doing flying scissor kicks.......smell of weed hanging thick in the air.......good times
what a greaaaaaaat concert--this memory keeps me going at 44!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! david lee roth was known for his well equiped body...ooohh lala.....but together they were terrific!!!!
A smokin' version of an often overlooked track. For a band that was having internal problems during this time, you can't really tell from the onstage action. The best lineup for sure!
I miss the days when the Mighty Van Halen were still considered a "dangerous band".......the kind that teenagers were not allowed to see in concert because their parents were afraid of all the hedonism and debauchery involved -- and they were right! Lots of pot-smoking and hot-lookin' pussy at VH concerts in those days.
This song always illicits a little sadness in me- only because it was the last song they played when I saw them on this tour. AMAZING show.. one of the best ever. No one could touch them back then.
The girl in the audience at 0:51 is gorgeous!!!! I wonder if she ever knew she was in this video on you tube? She must be atleast 45 years old by know!!!! VanHalen was at the top of there game here.. Dave actually sounds great live in this video!!!! VH forever!!!! God Bless!!!!
I was not at this concert. I was across the street at an arcade playing Donkey Kong. Then I went to the movie theatre to watch "Escape from New York". As I walked out I heard people on the street talking about the cabbage patch craze.
This is HARD rock. Metallica and Megadeth are examples of METAL. Metal has no R&B influence where Hard Rock does. This is right from an interview with DLR himself.
depending on her genre of music, what she finds interesting, and if yr on spot then its a 75% chance she will dig it. but like all women, they all dig guys who play guitar. i say go for it man haha
@Gary2112 it works everytime man honestly in a whole retro spec ive gotten a bitchin life for what i put in you tell a girl you play guitar or are in a band and you got it in the bag
@Gary2112 LOL I played a couple of van halen licks once on stage, chicks loved it!! even if my pants split down the side so you could see my inner leg! haha
@KingAcosta28 dude if you can play it perfectly that's awesome man! go for it i'd say, a real women would totally dig on this song and introducing her to this shit would blow her fuckin mind, go get her bro!
Ed was asked his fav music selections, and all the amazing intros he picked, just like I would, and I do mean that includes this intro song, the whole affair kicks ass
Iv'e been tried and convicted ....It's winner take all !!!!!!...., words to live by ... thanks for getting me through these mean streets. Diamond Dave Forever. Happy Birthday ! 10-10-09 .......
This song has tremendous lyrics as well as great music...always one of my favorites....Fair Warning maybe their best disc that Van Halen released...VH Rocks
Ed...then everyone else. There are super talented technically proficient animals out there but nobody will ever match Ed's feeling and natural groove. This shit will never get old. His lead in this one is stellar.
@taypax ...I agree. After the first album hit in 78 the rock/metal scene was bombarded with non-stop Ed clones who were more often then not hyper-lame and caricatures of what VH was laying down...The whole glam metal shred era is a punchline but Ed and his songwriting still holds up. Van Halen is and never was glam despite Roth's circus antics and the theatrics...The music stands on its own without the image ie. spandex, hairspray, make-up etc...I could go on and on defending Ed's substance
This Is an example of Real Musicians coming From nothing, and Ending up with everything, Unlike people now adays who get there gigs based on their looks and what people want, these guys and there predecesors had to impress night after night just hoping to get noticed, there was no such thing as contests or shows that got you careers, Van Halen started in bars in california and ended up selling out world wide, This is why this is the greatest band... Period!!!
This is what VH are all about, 0:42 - 0:47 that's the sound that made me fall in love with Ed's playing....PLEASE, if there is anymore useable footage besides the three songs from Oakland '81 that we've already seen...can you release it? PLEASE!!..?

Yes indeed hunkola....tho I only caught the Diver Down & 1984 tours, dems were some awesome times. Haven't seen a show like that since. Sad!
It wasn't a "concert'' with Dave, it was a party. My bud lived in Albuquerque in '81 and said he NEVER saw so much tail at a show like he saw at Tingley Stadium when VH came through town with their "FAIR WARNING TUNA TACO ROCK AND ROLL SEXTRAVAGANZA"
At least you were lucky enough to see some legendary Dave-era shows........I was only 14 when "1984" came out so I missed those legendary concerts.........but I did see the Roth-VH reunion tour in 2008 and it was spectacular as you would expect.........I just missed seeing Dave launching 10 ft. off the drum platform and the spinning helicopter kicks.........but Dave is 55 yrs. old so it's hard to pull off those acrobatics anymore........hee hee........but the Pasadena boys still know to slay !!!
"Lets spend the night together now i need you more than ever" and in the morning ... "I dont wanta hear about later.." I see this song is the sequel. Good call, roky!
you can hear it ! feel it !see it ! and we lived it!this what van halen is all about over flowing with power and feeling no one can compare to this!true rock icons the the beatles on roids!
Unreal. This is Van Halen at their most Van Halenness. Dave is in love with the life(and himself). LOL Eddie is drunk, pissed and overflowing with virtuosity.Mike is happy to be there, and Alex is holding it all down for his brother. At this stage...NO ONE could touch Van Halen. No One.
Dorky? No way man. This is what i call a live performance. None of this emo mosh pitting bull shit. No other band today can give a great live performance like Van Halen at their prime.
Nobody has the spirit, energy, balls or humour to perform like Van Halen nowadays, not to mention lacking VH's talent as musicians and songwriters. I would love to see a band with even half the talent of these guys come along and blow people away but I cant see it happening when everyone is worried about how they are percieved and their image rather than just rocking out and having fun with it.
I agree with the talent that VH has but I would say that Fishbone in their day would have destroyed VH in a live performance. Now Eddie is argueably the greatest guitarist of that area but he was the talent in VH. Alex and Michael are a great rhythm section but they can't hold anything close to what Norwood Fisher and Phillip Fisher gave to us in Fishbone. The raw energy that the 80's and early 90's Fishbone that toured could easily blown anyone off the stage.
All due respect to Fishbone, but you are talking about two totally different bands, and two totally different styles of music. As far as stadium hard rock, Van Halen are on a level of their own. For my money, in regards to my personal tastes, and the mix of spirit, energy, musicianship and songwriting that I love, Van Halen in their prime are untouchable. But if you are going to compare them to bands of another style, you could mention everyone from Little Richard to The Ramones.
Van Halen 4 Ever Man!! This is mah favorite song. And it even rocks more Live!! Back in the good ol days when they ruled man!! Diamond Dave!! There will be no substitutes man None!! Rock This Shit!!!
I Found Waldo !!!

I love the 3 clips from this show. I wish they'd go back and put the whole show out as a live cd/dvd thang.

No One.

Bands would look so dorky if they performed like
this today.
tomwasko 2 years ago
Dorky? No way man. This is what i call a live performance. None of this emo mosh pitting bull shit. No other band today can give a great live performance like Van Halen at their prime.
aceofspaades95 2 years ago 3

The raw energy that the 80's and early 90's Fishbone that toured could easily blown anyone off the stage.
eodmills 2 years ago
All due respect to Fishbone, but you are talking about two totally different bands, and two totally different styles of music. As far as stadium hard rock, Van Halen are on a level of their own. For my money, in regards to my personal tastes, and the mix of spirit, energy, musicianship and songwriting that I love, Van Halen in their prime are untouchable. But if you are going to compare them to bands of another style, you could mention everyone from Little Richard to The Ramones.
