Judges sending those arrested for cannabis possesion to treatment has two unintended consequences to an other wise "compassionate" decision. One it inflates treatment rates, 50% of those in treatment for cananbis are there because of a court order, 1/3 of those in treatment have not used cannabis in the month prior to enrolment. The consequence of this is that these higher treatment statistics are used to justify arrest.

I am not Wretchstoner, he said it was benign, not me. Also yes it should be prohibited from minor's use, if that is what you mean by illegal for large groups of people. It should be legal for adults, and only the irresponsible use will be subject to criminal and civil sanctions. Such as driving and smoking and the establishment of per say limits. (although it should not be treated as harshly as an DUI since at peak effects cannabis is equal to a 0.05% BAC on driving ability)

Actually no the entire war on drugs can be placed even higher when you add in foreign aid in latin american farmers as well as other non-enforcement measures. The prohibition of cannabis costs tax payers 7-10 billion a year. Also cocaine comes from the chemical extraction of thousands of coca plants and I already told you that Americans are free to grow the opium poppy in their garden. With the growing body of evidence of cannabis's medical ethicacy as a theraputic, medicinal and anagesic aid to numerous medical conditions spaning from HIV/AIDs wasting syndrome to IBS to MS. It is way overdue to no longer let an agency that has NO medical qualifications (DEA) decide what is and what is not medicine. Not only that but for 30 years the federal government has known that THC selectively kills mutated and cancerous cells in the body while leaving normal cells unscathed.

Point is that substances are judged on their benefits and harms to society. Nutmeg has a legitimate use as a food spice. It also poses a risk since that it can give you a mild and unpleasant reaction 6 hours after you take too much of it. In prisons, the harm outweigh the benefit and it's prohibited. In mainstream society, it does not, and is legal.
Comparing MJ to nutmeg is idiotic because the harms and benefits are so widely dissimilar.

I said that your local supermarket has more powerful psychoactives on the shelf than marijuana (this is called a "contrast"; when comparing you point out similarities)- and nutmeg is one of them.
MJ also has legitimate uses as a source of food and medicine, and was recognized as such even in this country (in the US Pharmacopoeia) until 1937. It is a much more versatile substance than nutmeg and less severe as a psychoactive- its benefits far outweigh any supposed "harms."
Actually, it was a "comparison" because you took dissimilar items and identified their single likeness or similarity. A "contrast" reveals the striking differences in facially similar items. Like MJ versus hemp, which some people believe are identical.
And it's a stupid fucking comparison because the power of the psychoactives is not the sole reason MJ is illegal. If it were, lots of benign substances would be illegal, and absurd and nonexistent result.

"Taking drugs" (which includes drinking and smoking pot) is not in and of itself rebellious OR conformist. It is just "taking drugs," a simple act of consumption and particular influence of one's own physiology that has been around far longer than governments.

She is wrong on lots of things. But I wanna say something about the statement she made about heroin useage in the Netherlands. She said the use of heroin tripled after legalizing Marijuana. That is a lie. Heroin usage fell to the floor after legalizing, so did border traffic of drugs. Now they have a controlled drug-program.. I think we (as human beings, not just american) need to think differently about the whole drug problem. What we are doing now is not working, lets try something new.

that lady talking on the later half of the video made a hypocritical point. She said that marijuana was dangerous, so she is hinting at the point that she would rather have an unregulated "dangerous" substance than have the government legalize it and be able to at least mildly regulate it.

As long as you realize that there's a difference between "hard" drugs, like coke, meth, heroin etc - which have been found to hurt other people and/or the users - and "soft" drugs, like marijuana, psilobycin (shrooms) which do not harm other people or the user.

I also like how she mentioned treatment for those caught with cannabis. Judges sending those arrested for cannabis possesion to treatment has two unintended consequences to an other wise "compassionate" decision. One it inflates treatment rates, 50% of those in treatment for cananbis are there because of a court order, 1/3 of those in treatment have not used cannabis in the month prior to enrolment. The consequence of this is that these higher treatment statistics are used to justify arrest.

It should be legal for adults, and only the irresponsible use will be subject to criminal and civil sanctions. Such as driving and smoking and the establishment of per say limits. And it makes more sense to prohibit MJ entirely than to legalize it and then try to impose all the civil and criminal sanctions you contemplate. Our system for dealing with alcohol sucks, but we're stuck with it since legal alcohol predated the nation and prohibition failed. There's no good reason to voluntarily choose that for MJ.

Point is that substances are judged on their benefits and harms to society. Nutmeg has a legitimate use as a food spice. It also poses a risk since that it can give you a mild and unpleasant reaction 6 hours after you take too much of it. In prisons, the harm outweigh the benefit and it's prohibited. In mainstream society, it does not, and is legal.
Comparing MJ to nutmeg is idiotic because the harms and benefits are so widely dissimilar.

MJ also has legitimate uses as a source of food and medicine, and was recognized as such even in this country (in the US Pharmacopoeia) until 1937. It is a much more versatile substance than nutmeg and less severe as a psychoactive- its benefits far outweigh any supposed "harms."

i used to think drinking and smoking pot and tking drugs was being rebellious.. now i realise they wanted us to do it. we do these things we are ultimatley comforming.

"Taking drugs" (which includes drinking and smoking pot) is not in and of itself rebellious OR conformist. It is just "taking drugs," a simple act of consumption and particular influence of one's own physiology that has been around far longer than governments.

That's a stupid distinction. Nothing harms anyone "in and of itself." But guns are used to hurt people, and should be regulated. Crack and heroin are addictive substances, their use results in crime and violence, and they should be regulated. This is Poly Sci 101. Guns, drugs, toxic waste---things that impinge on other individual's liberty should be regulated by the group.
Of course, here I am arguing with someone who believes the government caused 9/11.

Guns bear no comparison to drugs or substances individual people choose to ingest that you may think are bad.
Crack and heroin use "results in crime and violence" BECAUSE THEY ARE ILLEGAL. No one was getting shot over heroin when it was sold legally, and no one gets shot over alcohol deals anymore since prohibition ended.
