  • Thanks for posting this great movie classic . It is my fav of the "Star is Born" series. Beyonce is doing remake? i wish her well but, Janet Gaynor cannot be copied . Long live Janet Gaynor forever !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a beautiful movie.

  • i think its a very cute movie but extremely extremely unrealistic.... to unrealistic

  • Beyonce , oh i don't think so. STOP REMAKING THE CLASSICS!!

  • so thats it

  • she almost did fucking to fucking it up

  • lets enjoy this movie before Beyonce fucks it up

  • This film scratches the Yank audience's back. The plain girl succeeding in a glamorous profession - Doris Day etc. March in real life would not look twice at Esther Blodgett.

  • What a shame the grandma's husband was killed by an Indian whose land he was stealing!

  • bellisim apelicula... una estrella ha nacido

    version original..

  • Beyonce Beyonce Beyonce!!

  • @001Broadway I thought it was interesting when Arsenio Hall asked Don Ameche which of the "old Hollywood" actors he should have on his show live or dead if he could, Ameche said Bill Powell, which surprised Arsenio. Ameche said that he was funny and could tell some stories. He was also pretty smart. Powell lived to be 92 and was friends with Loy until his death.

  • @001Broadway Powell also deal with some serious trauma in his life. He was a cancer survivor at a time when there weren't many of them (I think either bladder or prostate), he survived the deaths of his ex-wives (his first wife and Carol Lombard, who died around the same time-mid 1940s), he survived the death of Jean Harlow, whom he loved deeply (there is a photo of him being physically supported as he grieves) and the suicide of his only son William Dean Powell.

  • @001Broadway From what I read, he was well liked and respected even by his exes (including Carol Lombard). He could fall into a depressive mood at times and he seemed to have this habit of falling in love with women who were younger (of course the two big ones being Jean Harlow and his last wife Diana Lewis). I also like to think that he had a good sense of himself, which also may have played into his turning down the role in that movie.

  • beyonce is going to do the remake of this movie!!!

  • i loveeeeeeeeeeeeeee this film

  • My second favorite film of all time :)

  • so gay yet gay, so queer yet queer

  • @action123action get the fuck off

  • beyonce brought me here! i hope she does star in the remake! :)

  • Ive heard beyonce might remake this soo excited that bitch never stops :3

  • Frederic March. Not a better actor. Ever. He is largely forgotten now, and that is a real pity. He was far ahead of his time. This is typical of his naturalistic, honest acting talent. He could equaly play comedy and drama....and the balance between the two.

  • @amcoca I agree. And without H´wood, there would be no pop-culture. Hollywood start it ALL! Rock´n´roll would not exist without H´wood. When, after so many years, someone will mention 20th century, people will immediately think of 2 WW and... Hollywood/motion pictures! That s why, people, give your tumbs up and maybe AFI will wake the fuck up!!! ;)

People, artists like Fredric March shouldn´t be forgotten. And neither great movies they starred in . Regards to all classic Hollywood fans!

  • @amcocaI think AFI does a lot, but NOT enough for people´s consciousess (especially among young ppl) of classic Hollywood and classic stars, who really were Stars- in every meaning of the word, they deserved this title. Im 24, and I fell in love with classic movies a few years ago(3-4) and I´ll never go back, I hope! After all, I think-and ppl maybe don´t even realize- that invention of motion pictures and Hollywood itself, was the biggest thing of 20th century. At least in popular culture.

  • @amcocaI . And he will stay there, for sure. Golden star of a Hollywood´s Golden Age. Thank god that Fredric won 2 oscars, it proves that Academy once(long ago) knew what they were doing. I am so glad that people like me still remember those giants of silver screen and let other people know about them. I was very surprised when AFI didn´t place Fredric March among 25 most legendary actors, he deserved it, although I believe he wasn´t far behind...

  • @amcocaI . I agree. I love Fredric March...He was as good an actor as it gets. I saw him in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde first, years ago on a double feature DVD(1931 and 1942 version) and I thought he was very good. But then I saw The Best Years Of Our Lives and I was blown away. wow, superb acting. Then I saw Dr. Jekyll again and other movies starring him and ever since this STAR is among my top 3 favourite actors

  • @001Broadway The irony of this version of "A Star is Born" is that Fredric March was at the height of his career and Janet Gaynor was soon to retire. March went on to play many important roles in films and on Broadway. He was the first choice for Willy Loman in "Death of a Salesman" on Broadway, but turned it down. He later played the part in the film version. Also see "Inherit the Wind" and "The Iceman Cometh". I agree, he was one of the Great actors with a very interesting career.

  • @001Broadway William Powell was first approached for March's role in The Best Years of Our Lives (because he and Loy were box office gold and she wanted him for the role). Powell was really cutting back on the roles he took and as much as he wanted to do it, he felt that he didn't have it in him. He was one of the people who recommended March as one of the possible choices.

  • @ladyday93 Hello, thanks for this info. I´m glad to hear the things I don´t know yet. I like William Powell very much, too. He is my favourite comedian, but I prefer to see March in The Best Years...Fredric is also so beautiful to me ;) Although I know Powell is also great in a dramatic roles. And Mr. Bill seams such a nice guy, he has this childish innocence in his eyes

  • i always live old tunes like this

  • haha this is awesome...its a shame the 4lowing remake of 1954 did not win any awards...judy greatest heartbreak has 2 b losing the oscar in 1955 damm

  • 3:56 - 5:30 was used in Creepshow. I have been searching for this clip for years, but I never knew which movie it was from. Thanks so much for posting this!

  • Thank you so very very much for posting this video =)

  • I've not seen the more recent versions of this movie, but this one was very well done in my opinion. Quite a moving story.

  • 1:10 lol

this film made me fall in love with silent films in 2007

  • wait a minute...... this is in TechniCOLOR from 1937, why does The Wizard of Oz get credit for the first color movie, if it was made in 1939? Was this movie originally black and white and colorized or something? I'm confused!

  • @mr40sfan - Actually, I think the first colour film was Becky Sharp, in 1935. Both Wizard of Oz and A Star is Born were filmed in colour.

  • @missbabyice I looked it up. The first color movie was The Toll of the Sea which was made in 1922.

  • @mr40sfan I can't answer your question, but I'm old enough that I saw "Wizard of Oz" when it was first released (at least I thought it had just been released, but perhaps not since I was born in '45.) At any rate, "Wizard" started out in black and white, and didn't switch to color until the first view of the Emerald City. Talk about a phenomenal attack on the senses to see that brilliant green on the screen when everything until that scene had been black and white! Truly amazing at the time.

  • @mockingbird1945 The Wizard of Ox was in sepia in Kansas. but when Dorothy entered Oz, it was in color. When she returned to Kansas, the movie was in sepia again.

  • @mr40sfan Color was used in film as early as the 1920's. Many films from the early 1930's were filmed in Technicolor. Check out the finale of Kid Millions - 1934, in glorious three strip technicolor. Check out "Technicolor Fragments' here on Youtube from the 1920's. Oz definitely wasn't the first- not sure where that myth got started.

  • @mr40sfan The Wizard of Oz ISN'T the first color movie.

  • surprised not more people have seen this

  • She's hideous but good movie great saturated technicolor and vibes the neon titles really took advantage of the color

  • Gotta love those old melodramas. Such a tragic tearjerker. Oh, well. I must be getting old.

  • Vote for this great masterpiece of master William Wellman..enjoy....

    Thank you drelbcom..
