Llevo como 6 años escuchando a Pantera y hasta ahora me doy cuenta que fueron Glam Metal alguna vez :S jejeje Pensaba que esta era otra bada de Glam pero ya me di cuenta que si son ellos !!! jeje
I have this album. I would go see them at the Back Room in Austin. They wouldn't even list their shows under the name Pantera to keep the crowds down.
@palaozs dude google their glam photos and you will see Phil had poofy hair too when he joined the band! Everyone has their past and every band has to start somewhere. Shit Phil even sang high on Cowboys so tell me how he saved the band.
@MartyFriedmanRulez66 Your second sentence is the exact problem with metal fans -- actually with many "diehard" fans of various styles. "A true metal fan wouldn't diss any metal regardless of how it sounds"? Man, I feel really sorry for the guys who get so lost in the crowd and scene that they just "like" certain songs or bands because their peers do, and not because they ACTUALLY ENJOY the music.
@fugitive1201 A real Metal fan DOES diss metal. It's only with standards and prowess do you achieve greatness. All these shitty alternative bands have stained metal for years and turned metal into a sad joke.
In the 80's, metal was mostly renowned for being a great SHOW. You would go to see Iron Maiden or Metallica and have your mind BLOWN. Nobody who knows music would be blown away at a Korn show, because they're playing music which doesn't require any real craft or skill to produce...
@fugitive1201 If you're talkin bout the 80s stuff, you can dislike them and that's fine, personal taste. Fact of the matter is, you know it is very talented stuff.
I mean I hate Death Metal but some of that stuff is very talented. No nu metal is talented. It's shit I could do in my sleep...
@skaterobban Yeah because someone like you who thinks Phil Anselmo did NOT scream on the great southern trendkill is a great exhibit of an intelligent human being. Just go do some more skateboard tricks you spotty, skinny little faggot lol
@SkullBeneath2 It's funny, I was well entrenched in the music scene from the mid-80'w to the early millenia and you are exactly right about bands that had hair metal pasts! It was really "UNCOOL" to be associated with cheese metal, it became an out and out embarrassment. DD was no exception, many current hard rocking musicians cut their teeth on Dokken, Rat, Motley Crue and even, yes, I dare say, early der leopard, lol! But, god knows during the 90's they would have rather die than admit it!
@fickifickmaster I concede that this particular song had a harder edge, but they were as a whole a hair metal band. Most hair bands had a token power balad and hard edged song in their repertoire...it was par for the course for that sub-genre. Maybe they were torn between their hard playing sensibilities and what was "popular" "mainstream" at the time?
@fickifickmaster CONT.. I was exactly one year younger than Dimebag and I chose bands like Suicidal Tendencies,TSOL,Bad Brains,Motorhead,Dead Kennedy's,X,The Lords of The New Church,The Cure,Judas Priest and young Metallica. As for the more mainstream metal scene, while I really liked Motley Crue's first 2 album's I was increasingly turned of by their style and if i was going to listen to 'hair metal" it was going to be Hanoi Rocks or something more Glam, straight out of the New York Dolls set
@fickifickmaster CONT... I don't know, I just fi by the direction they chose to take their music...nd it amusing how the Anselmo-Pantera fan set get so upset about the brothers past affiliation with the cheesier sub-genre that they were certainly well entrenched in during their youth. I suppose if we are going to re-assign Pantera's style song by song...well, this song is a bit harder, but it in no way changes what they were at the time, which was a HAIR METAL BAND
@antoinevlah I'm afraid you are wrong @antoinevlah early Pantera were very much a hair metal band. I am more than qualified to determine musical genre and sub-genre, are you?
@Swampwitch99 I don't want to jump into an argument I'm not part of but this is a bit more aggressive than most hair metal, which is mid tempo and full of Def Leppard style group chants... this sounds a bit more like Judas Priest at times. I'm sure their other songs had the party, glam, hair metal feel but I could imagine Priest and Maiden fans diggin' this no prob
The claims of hair metal come from the over the top, whiny and generally melodic vocals, but that style of singing bleeds over into a lot of traditional heavy metal and early speed/power metal as well. It's got a touch of glam, and it's more present in some places than others. Overall it just sounds like straight up heavy metal. I'd rather jam it than most of their "groove metal" work.
@spacko338 alot of people dont realize everybody in the band was between 18 and 20 and it was prime mid 80s for the time, they were still youngsters trying to figure out what they wanted to do with music,. to say the least, this is still a killer song compared to alot of the music back then., its not van halen, ratt, or dio, but it was STILL badass for its time
no offense to pantera or anything, but i hear people say they were ashamed of what they did in the 80s because they were only doing what was popular at the time. then isnt that true with all they did? they started playing darker music in the 90s, when the popular music was darker....

It's funny because there are some early 90s interviews where dimebag was asked about changing his 80s nickname from "Diamond Darrel" to "Dimebag Darrel" and he insisting that it was a missprint, that it was never meant to be "Diamond." The change in sound and attitude didn't bother me so much as the fact that they were working so hard to hide their past lol. made it kinda hard to swallow their 90s output when you know theyre so concerned with selling an image. & the 80s stuff is cool!
such a fucking killer main riff can' t belong to a glam metal band , pantera was a mix of euro metal and us hard rock due to the early singer songwritting style but frankly until cowboys from hell pantera said it all they had to say musically speaking !!!
His fucking awesome guitar-playing even cuts through this shit.
I was ready to write-this off, and was already looking at the other video suggestions when I heard that crisp, perfect style through the terrible mixing, homo singing and overall crapness.
@megadethpwnsTallica first off, i am a 'real' guitar player, of about 10 years.Second, please explain how and why Dave plays circles around Kirk?
I again refer to my point that the best solo's to come out of Megadeth have been largely facilitated by Marty Friedman.
Were as Kirks soloing ability throughout the majority of Metallica songs seem to match the underlaying rhythm with near perfection. As a guitarist you should know that speed and technicality means dick all if it doesnt go to the music
@SeekerOfCheese Kirk mainly plays in the same key and along the same old boring pentatonic scales, with some wah slapped on to it. Dave solos, but he's mainly a rhythm guitar playe these days and twice that of Kirk, not to mention about 96% of Megadeth's music has been created/written by Dave. When they recorded R.I.P the songs had already been written Marty just needed solos. Of Course Marty is a far better guitar player than Dave. I don't get how Kirk could be better, it's impossible.

How can you people bag on any one ! What the hell have you ever done that has gone viral, or even public ! Dime was cool in personality & as for guitar playing he smoked on the very first album til the very last, which is more than I can say for you who bag on the band in that stage. That was a style back then, & they changed, & you have still have done NOTHING !
Dave Mustaine? You mean the ex Metallica fuckhead who let Marty Friedman do most of the soloing during his Epic appearance in Megadeth?
Dont get me wrong i like Megadeth, but are you serious?
Kirk is a legendary guitar player, and i would certainly put him above Dave any day, but i'm sure there are some good shredders out there who come closer to Dime than Dave!
@husky14bear James is better than Dave, and Dave doesn't come close to Dimebag at all. Dave even admits to being a shitty lead guitarist. And Dimebag who was the best of both worlds (lead and rhythm) said you can only down pick so fast until you have to alternate pick, unless you're James Hetfield. Don't get me wrong, I love Dave and Megadeth, but he is soooo overated by his fanboys.
@comeonewtf are you are retarted or just trying to get a response. Pantera and Vinnie were thrashing before lars became anything. Lars chokes balls compared to any standard. He is comparable to Ringo. He happened apon a talented band, after some major replacements. Lars would have been playing drums at the local soup kitchen if his luck had not interjected. My friends eight year old sister can play better drums than Lars, and many people can say the same.
Holy dime bag,he was rippin back then and will forever be one of the best metal guitarists EVER period.

@husky14bear WHAT!???
SeekerOfCheese 10 months ago
@SeekerOfCheese
Yes I agree ..
Dave isnt a shredder and do NOT come close to dime ..

@husky14bear you make my night happy, i was expecting more people saying shit about kirk hammet and hetfield...
really your comment make me see the guitarists arent completely lost ....
tks
RodrigoSegato 10 months ago
@husky14bear James is better than Dave, and Dave doesn't come close to Dimebag at all. Dave even admits to being a shitty lead guitarist. And Dimebag who was the best of both worlds (lead and rhythm) said you can only down pick so fast until you have to alternate pick, unless you're James Hetfield. Don't get me wrong, I love Dave and Megadeth, but he is soooo overated by his fanboys.

@husky14bear Dave is nowhere near as good as dime

This was probably recorded in the Abbott brothers' dad's studio in Arlington, TX.
Their dad was a producer and performer of country music.

@Charbok12 Nah it's not on backwards. That is the way the 'Kill E'm All', originally titled 'Metal Up Your Ass' album shirt was released.

All you hard @sses who think Metallica are b!t*hes, know this: Without Lars Ulrich, there would never have been a Pantera.
comeonewtf 1 year ago
@comeonewtf yeah but Lars Ulrich is a horrible drummer so no1 cares.
nirvanafan176 1 year ago 2
@comeonewtf are you are retarted or just trying to get a response. Pantera and Vinnie were thrashing before lars became anything. Lars chokes balls compared to any standard. He is comparable to Ringo. He happened apon a talented band, after some major replacements. Lars would have been playing drums at the local soup kitchen if his luck had not interjected. My friends eight year old sister can play better drums than Lars, and many people can say the same.
