The metal piece you are refering to that is in between the rear seat panel is the gas tank vent/overflow canister. There should be lines from the original fuel tank that run up to it. Most GM cars from 1972 through the late 70s and early 80s had them. That is why it is a waste to fill your tank beyond when the gas pump kicks off. Any excess will find it's way to this canister and be vented to the atmosphere eventually.
@TheHighwayMan72 ...My dad came over and looked at it aswell and we think its part of the defrost. Not sure though, OPGI and Year One dont show it in the catalog...If anyone knows for sure please post the information. Thank you
Yeah, that sweep had to go. It took alot of guts for me to cut it up to fit the gauge insert. But the gauges fit good and it's very sturdy. It came out really well. I have some killer switches and finger guards that I'll put in once I get the rest of the wiring done.
how do you like that dash I have been thinking of geting the same one shur beets looking at the malibu sweep dash and buying a ss dash set up is just to much money to me
