All health care is sick care. None of it is preventative. All countries around the world seem to think preventative care is x-rays and crap like that. Sorry Ilargitxo, but the United States does have some of the best doctors/nurses/staff and hospitals. I live in St. Louis and the healthcare facilities and staff are first rate and I would compare them to any in the world. However, some folks in my area have no healthcare, no resources rather than emergency room treatment.

I think health facilities are much better in third world countries as many state run hospitals provide almost free heathcare. well i am from one and here you go to a chemist and he talls you what drug to take and you re fine.

Actually universal health care is used in places such as France and UK and works just fine. Imagine if everyone paid in the same amount of money into one large government pot for health coverage. When you're not using it for a Dr's visit, someone else is. And when they're done you may need to use it. But since everyone is always paying into the pot everyone will always have money there to cover them.

I agree with the idea of universal health care - however showing one of the POOREST areas in the USA does not exactly reflect how most of America runs. In my state there is low cost health insurance offered to lower income people and health care insurance is almost universal.
As an American it's apauling to see how the Health Care system works in the US. The goverment doesn't give a Shit about us. All the money goes to the Damn War.
Healthcare is what it is because of government involved by forcing managed care regulations for over 30 years.
You notice that a huge percentage Americans can't "afford" healthcare, but won't give up their 40 dollar a month cellphones, 40 dollar a month cable tv, or their 3,000+ calorie per day diet. We Americans believe that quality healthcare is a "right", and won't give up on any extra perks.
This is very true. Many Americans who say they can't afford health care could afford it if they stopped buying useless crap from Wal-Mart, but it's more than just using common sense and having a smart budget, the health care industry here is very selfish and many healthy people are often denied coverage.

The U.S. spends nearly twice as much per patient as any other country in the world.
Our health care also has a ranking of 39 according to the WHO. Cuba has better health care than the US (according to pretty standard metrics, like infant mortality).
Pretty poor return on investment. Makes you think; maybe we SHOULD have public health care, like all those countries which do, and have cheaper, BETTER health care than the US.

Why can't you scrap the middle layer - the insurance companies. I can only guess how much money that disappears in that layer.
Another interesting statement from John McCain - 5 000 $ that you can use on any insurance that you want: France is considered to be number one in healthcare (based on more factors than only quality) - they only spend 3 500 $ per year, and have no middle layer.
Imagine what you can get for 5 000 $ - USA back to #1!!

Sorry Ilargitxo, but the United States does have some of the best doctors/nurses/staff and hospitals. I live in St. Louis and the healthcare facilities and staff are first rate and I would compare them to any in the world. However, some folks in my area have no healthcare, no resources rather than emergency room treatment.
If one has money, one has access to the best of the best in America. All others are stiffed.

I'm surprised America is ranked as high as 38th. I thought we ranked 175th. To say that our disfunctional for profit health care system is atrocious in nature would be the understatement of the decade.

I think health facilities are much better in third world countries as many state run hospitals provide almost free heathcare. well i am from one and here you go to a chemist and he talls you what drug to take and you re fine.

usa should do the same as england here we pay in to a NSH system every time we get paid we have money taken out of out pay check and that money goes in to the NHS if everyone in usa who worked pay in to a system like this maybe usa would be better i have astma i am so greatful liveing in a country that does the NHS and that i can see the doctor when i want by phoneing the dovtors up instead of waiting in line and it wont bankrupt the usa

We don't have a national health service in the USA because many Americans are selfish and do not want to pay higher taxes. We will eventually have a national health care system, there is no doubt about it, but first the selfish politicans of the Republican party who work for the greedy health care industry need to be defeated.

Canada's health care systim is great you can almost ALWAYS get insurence and if you cut off all your fingures and you had insurrence you would get them all and only have to pay mayby a couple thousand

It's because it works. the US also spends twice as much money per capita on healthcare than anyone else. More money, less services, something is seriously wrong. Ideology shouldn't get in the way of the health of a country's own citizens. america is way behind in this area

My father in Bulgaria stayed in a hospital for 3 weeks. Well, guess what? He didn't have to pay a dime and my mom slept in a bed next to him for that time. How is US healthcare better?

Yes in Spain is the same. My grandfather had to stay 1month and a half in the hospital and he didn't have to pay a a peny at all.

Actually universal health care is used in places such as France and UK and works just fine. Imagine if everyone paid in the same amount of money into one large government pot for health coverage. When you're not using it for a Dr's visit, someone else is. And when they're done you may need to use it. But since everyone is always paying into the pot everyone will always have money there to cover them.

People in Europe and Canada don't pay extra. IN US you pay over 35% in taxes, yet you don't see much back. In Europe and Canada you DON'T have to be over 65 in order to use medicare. You don't live in constant fear of getting sick like in US...And you don't go bankrupt if you do.

People don't stop working as a result of universal health care. If they did, countries like Australia, Germany and the UK would be in deep shit. A universal health care system actually encourages people to work by giving them a 'safety net' in case something happens.
Also, just because it costs taxpayers more doesn't mean it's bad: it funds a service available to all citizens.

Its odd that they chose the guy who was smoking three packs a day and eating hamburgers fried in butter as the poster child. A lot of people oppose universal healthcare because of people who make poor choices about what they put into their bodies.

Under King Ludwig II, Bavaria probably spent a higher percentage of GDP on castles than any other country. That doesn't mean everyone was living in them. Even if the U.S. spends more on health care than any other country, it doesn't mean shit for people who can't afford it. Anyway, lot of that cost is due to bloated profits, I'm sure.

I agree with the idea of universal health care - however showing one of the POOREST areas in the USA does not exactly reflect how most of America runs. In my state there is low cost health insurance offered to lower income people and health care insurance is almost universal.

Healthcare is what it is because of government involved by forcing managed care regulations for over 30 years.
You notice that a huge percentage Americans can't "afford" healthcare, but won't give up their 40 dollar a month cellphones, 40 dollar a month cable tv, or their 3,000+ calorie per day diet. We Americans believe that quality healthcare is a "right", and won't give up on any extra perks.

This is very true. Many Americans who say they can't afford health care could afford it if they stopped buying useless crap from Wal-Mart, but it's more than just using common sense and having a smart budget, the health care industry here is very selfish and many healthy people are often denied coverage.
