Listening to all the music for this game after 8 years since I've played it... brings back good memories... I miss this game, I used to be so good at it :)
Mmm honey :) I loved how if you let the Kongs sit still they would eat it. They had so many nice little touches in the SNES trilogy. Not to mention amazing soundtracks!
@xigbar4ever Simple answer. A mastermind who knew REAL music in its most magnificent and awesome form showed what it was all about. Turning what little we had back then into pure perfection <3
@xigbar4ever cuz back when this was made and into the early PSX days of gaming it was about making a good game not just making a Hastily put together Pos game to keep revenues up THAT'S how a game that's 20 yrs old (well close to) has better music game play story ext then games today it rare to find anything new that's good there are some out there but usually in gaming the older the game the better the game is ^^
I'm studying Digital Music Production Engineering. It is one of my dreams to become at least 1/4 of what David Wise, Nobuo Uematsu, Hiroki Kikuta, Koji Kondo, or any other 90's VG composer is.
i've tried to simulate that amazing guitar sound of 0:38 for a long time, it appears in many songs of dkc1 and dkc2, bit i haven´t found it.¿does anyone have it, i dont know, like a kind of sample or soundfont?
DKC2 was far superior to it's predecessor, though both are true masterpieces. DKC3 and Returns just aren't this good. DKC2 has one of the best soundtracks of any game of all time; each track is atmospheric and fitting, but has melody which the first DKC lacked. DKC3 starred Dixie and Kiddy, the two least memorable Kong characters, as well as feeling rather gimmicky. DKC 1&2 had well-balanced playable characters (Donkey & Diddy; Diddy & Dixie), though I preferred DKC2's. There were a few problem
This tune used to not be high on my list from DKC2, but it's grown on me as time has went on, now it's one of my favorites. Especially the bit that starts at about the 1:00 mark.
Why only SNES? I can sort of understand only comparing music from that console generation, but how about some Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, and NeoGeo love? Metal Slug and Sonic 3 & Knuckles are both god tier. Easily on the same level as Donkey Kong Country 2 or Chrono Trigger as far as music is concerned.
I have a huge playlist of loads of video game soundtracks on all systems megadrive has my personal favourite soundtracks of all time, my list here is purely super nintendo only.
the megadrive audio chip is older than the snes but it takes great talent to use the megadrive to make a kick ass beat, rave, epic feel, rock music.
Rocket knight adventures, sonic 3 n K, moonwalker, alien soldier, lion king, mickey mania, contra hard corps, gain ground to name a few have great music
Let me put it this way. Even though now we have the ability to compose songs using real orchastras and electronic guitars, and real instruments, for some reason, using basic sound chips found in early consoles can sometimes produce music that is really amazing. NES, MSX, MD/Genesis, SNES, GB, even N64 and Arcade games from the 80s and early 90s.
@kdreamland It might have something to do with the fact that the lesser sound chips forced one to work more on composition technique. Seriously, the minimalistic music of many of today's games gets put to shame by the saturated thematics of earlier gaming soundtracks. There are of course exceptions - some games still do have legitimately good composition, but sadly, those are the minority, especially amongst more mainstream games.
@AgentDC76 Frank Klepacki's must for the Command and Conquer series ans basicly anything made by ZUN for Touhou are some of those exceptions. But you are right, most music nowadays is minimalistic and outright bland. Music as playful as it was in SNES times has become hard to find. ._.
this game easily has my favorite soundtrack of all time, but this generation has some amazing ones too. Listen to nearly any song from shadow of the colossus and it will blow your mind
The people who made these soundtracks back then knew what they were doing; what feeling and atmosphere they were trying to create and how to acheive it. Nowadays, the young guns who make these tracks are too focused on electric guitars and bass noises and extreme techno scratches to get the sound and the scenery to go together. That or they go overboard on orchestra. They refuse to take a step back. It's actually very disheartening. Hopefully it'll get better.
Not necessarily, you just need to diverge from the mainstream a bit to find it. For one, Sins of a Solar Empire has great music. Even Kingdom Hearts, which I would be very surprised if you weren't knowledgeable of, has good music.
@xigbar4ever Okami started on the PS2. Also, every Metal Gear Solid game has had better music, not to mention many PS2, PS3, Xbox and Xbox 360 exclusives. If anything, modern music is far superior in quality.
@CaptainRaccoonWhitly I don't know the music of the metal gear series but I guess it has music ore like a movie? This does not make it necessarily better. Just a different style. The music of Donkey Kong is really creative and a Rare example of greatness (pun intended). Also these are two completely different types of games and therefore need different types of music. So I don't know if you can compare them. Also judging from the number of remixes Chrono Trigger (SNES) has the best music.
I always remember that if Dixie Kong was playing, when she was sticking to the wall if you let her sit there long enough, she would lick the honey off her hand :)
@PennyLane6383 Not alot of people realize it, but if you look at Diddy, he doesn't look like he has an animation. He's actually sucking the honey straight off the wall. ^^
Is it creepy that when I hear this theme I imagine a bunch of monkeys trapped in a hive getting killed by zingers one by one violently as they try to escape?
At 3:39 the monkeys begin running and it has a slow motioney feel. Then at 1:01 the zingers come out and start killing everybody and theres's crying and sadness as everybody's fate is sealed by the swarm...
