  • Haha Stan Lee's thinking to himself "this is some shit! but it's $hit.."

  • the worst part is that he hasn't improved since this video

  • @sunset261 It is really hard for an artist to hear the words" you suck" but we all had to go through it. It sucks big time and most people with an aptitude for drawing give up or lash out at people trying to help them. Learning how to draw after realizing you suck is the hardest thing an artist can go through, but its worth it at the end. Rob has so much money, he could go to Cal Arts if he wanted to and actually learn how to draw properly. He doesn't though, which is sad.

  • @InglebertHumperdink1 yes he could. and yet he doesn't. Not only is he a crappy artist and a crappy writer, with all of hi piles of cash he can't even take it upon himself to improve which is the part I hate most about him.

  • @sunset261 If you say one more negative thing about Liefeld, I'll block you. Do you understand?

  • @sunset261 Wow. Jealous much? What did he do to you, personally? Oh- nothing, right. You're just braying along with the rest of the hater donkeys. Go away.

  • @Venkman007 lol you're like a justin bieber or hannah montana fan. Just because i criticize someone that automatically means that i'm just jealous of them. lol. I don't like rob liefeld because he just seems to not care very much about improving himself. look at his recent cover for hawk and dove. He doesn't even know what a hawk's head looks like. It contains tons of the same mistakes that people have been pointing out in his work for years and yet he doesn't seem to care about fixing them.

  • ...and his bubblegum.

  • and some wonder why comics took so long to be accepted as an artistic medium

  • The description is incredibly blasphemous.

  • He can't draw feet or hands lol

  • LIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEFEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELD

  • How not to draw, by Rob Liefeld.

  • ...And his bubblegum...

    <3

  • Gonna sell a bazillion commies!

  • "gonna put some pockets over here"

    Oh fuck... here we go.

  • @megustaface YES! LMAO!

  • Someone along the way should have told him to take some classes. His lack of an understanding of anatomy is astounding! You can tell he often gets to the point in a drawing where he does not know how to finish it so he covers it with something to mask his inadequacies.

  • @MrMcGribble

I'm no fan of Rob Liefield. I do respect him as an artist though.

You do see that he's drawn a full figure in about 2 minutes, without any prior planning or figure construction? That takes a bit of skill to accomplish. He does need to improve his anatomy, but hey,he's not perfect.

I'm pretty sure that you/anyone else could beat Rob Liefield in drawing given enough time and practice, but he's still out there making a living in comics. It's not easy to survive in the industry,

  • @wetyewruyrtsutrdhjfg I can do a stick figure in under 3 seconds. I think my stick figure would have proportions that are closer to proper than rob's figure. Looking at his proportions and layouts, he needs to do thinks like figure construction.

  • @wetyewruyrtsutrdhjfg

I'm a fan of Rob Leifeld as well as other of his time and genre. I'm more a fan during his Image Comics days because Marvel didn't respect their employees (the consistancy was sloppy at times but the potential was always there). Image allowed the artists to set their own bars, this made everything much more compete and worth the time to collect.) Marvel only cared about ads & they still do. This is pop art, there really isn't much to dwell on.

  • bunch of jealous haters on this board. if there are a lot of guys that can blow hiim out of the water that are going to school right now, then where are they? why hasnt stan lee interviewed them. And to all you people who say he cant draw hands and feet. He just did it in this video segment. people are ridiculous. next peson that says he sucks should post a link to his or her work. Its easy to talk the talk, but I bet half of you couldnt walk the walk. bunch of ornery angry haters.

  • @jbeihl1 It's funny man, if you take a look at PrisonCypher's comment up there, how Rob isn't even a close fourth to the comic king, IMO he's still comparable and here's why: Jack Kirby and ROB LEIFELD (yes I put their names in the same sentence for you haters) both developed their own rudementary styles, they both work and worked hard 'round the clock, and at first both their styles were misunderstood. Rob's still is misunderstood because people in general lack compassion in this day and age.

  • @jbeihl1

Rob Liefield sucks. Link to my work: chickenlover13(dot)deviantart(dot)com/#/d4g1njn

    Replace the (dot) with .

Nah actually I'm ok with him - I just find some of his work funny at times.

  • @wetyewruyrtsutrdhjfg . your style is totally different, its like apples and oranges. you are doing stuff with an anime/unico look to it, and you cant compare that to the stuff rob does. I appreciate anime, but I dont think your work puts you in a position to say a proven talent cant cut the mustard. Plus try drawing some some sequentials. its a lot different the figure drawing. the background should come first, and the figure is part of that background. keep going and dont look at anatomy books

  • Comment removed

  • @jbeihl1 People aren't hating as much as they are angry at the fact that this man is making absurd amounts of money for illustration and cannot draw a foot.

  • @jbeihl1 Well Honestly I cant fault the guy. He made his money as was relevant for a while. But the main thing about Comic artist that make or break them, is for them to STAY relevant. His composistion is predictable, and his anatomy at times can be horrendous. He is so Distrinctly 90's in both concept and execution, that its become his achilles heel. Im not a Liefeld fan. Now while all of my work isnt in digital form, when I make digital copies I will be happy to send them to your email.

  • @jbeihl1 I can't draw at all, and that still doesn't change the fact that Liefeld can't draw either.

  • @jbeihl1 What is it with people sticking up for Liefeld and demanding to see drawings from the people criticizing him? LOL I just don't see how it's relevant.

  • Liefeld is one of the worst artists ever. In the 90s he invented 300 more muscles for the human (male) body. I bet he can´t even spell anatomy... So: Liefeld = Fail.

  • 0:40 Mark Wahlberg?

  • "We're gonna sell a million commies"

  • I want to become successful like Rob someday so I don't have to draw feet! :D

  • nice feet!

  • well, the guy made an impact in early 90's. was smart and able and made a name for himself and tons of money.

that said, his drawings are terribly terribly flawed to the point of being comical, (a wrong leg is not style, is a wrong leg).

i see no problem in his flaws, but i can't stand the fact that trough the years he choose to keep bullshitting the reader (hiding feet, same bad anatomy everywhere, wrong proportions), instead of trying to improve his skill.

  • His art is fun, stylized, and bigger than life. His style may not fit every genre but its perfect for superhero comics.

  • I like the rob liefeild thinks

  • He looks like Matt Damon lol :))

  • Early in his career, Liefeld drew about as good as some friends of mine in high school. Good with muscles, but couldn't draw facial expressions for crap. He then took a hiatus to improve his work, which he did (a noticable improvement). But Liefeld is far, far, from a comic book great. His 'Youngblood' comic was popular for about one summer, probably around the same time this video was made.

  • @AlbertEinsteinJr You're one to talk he's making great money doing what he loves and you're talking bad about him over a computer.

  • @futureanimatior that may be some of the most asinine logic I've ever heard in my life..What if you don't like a movie? does that mean you can't have an opinion on it because you're not doing the same line of work or making as much money? I'm voicing my opinion as a fan, and I was far less brutal on Rob Liefeld than most of these other posts. also, that's a weak ass defense for Rob Liefield.

  • @AlbertEinsteinJr

I can only speak for myself but I don't feel like I can criticize Rob's work. I've been drawing all my life, but I don't know if I'm any better than him. Maybe because of that some of us understand how hard drawing can be, especially human figures, thus some of us aren't that hard on him. That's why it's much easier for me to criticize movies cos I don't do movies myself.

Don't get me wrong, you're entitled to your opinion. If you think you can afford to criticize, it's ok.

  • I just noticed Rob Liefeld is from Babbit Family, like Rain Man. "Definitely."

  • Hey dawg, I heard you like pouches and shoulderpads. So we put some pouches on your shoulderpads and more shoulderpads on your pouches so you can carry extra pouches in the pouches on your shoulder pads and put extra pouches on the shoulderpads on your pouches' shoulderpads!

  • @Nextrol i would blow him out the frame

  • It really sucks that everyone that came up with Rob back in the 90's have evolved their art style and Rob still drawing like he's doodling in grade school. The internet gave Rob a blueprint of what is wrong with his art and it's a shame he never improved upon it.

  • He's ok. I've seen a lot of shitty artwork from the guy(the cover of SPAWN 200 is the latest), but he can still draw. He's not the absolute worst in the business........ probably.

On the other hand, he seems like a cool guy to talk comics with. I've watched a lot of these Comic Book Greats vids, and this one is my fav. He explains how he got into comics, what you should to do to get into comics, and all that. That's what I wanted to hear. I like this vid the most.

  • @corruptgunslinger the jim lee one is pretty good for getting motion and action in your figures too

  • @KroliggBloodhoof Yeah, I've seen that one about 20 times.

But there's just some awkwardness between Jim and Stan in those videos. This one, Rob and Stan just seem to click and are comfortable with each other.

That's why I like this one the best.

  • I love how this character looks identical to Nathan Summers. Rob, diversity of design was never quite your thing.

  • Stan Lee Loves Him Nuff Said

  • "Only a minute to finish him??? PERFECT! Now I have an excuse for being shitty at drawing feet!"

  • both of those character are know in bloodstrike comic books. I don't think he made them up on the spot, I think he just said he did to save time. Check them out there good comics.

  • Liefeld's always been a good, competent artist, but he lacks soul. Too much muscle, not enough character. Someone like Steve Ditko has never had anywhere near the detail or exaggerated physique of Liefeld, but talk about reader-involving character and soul!

  • Rob Liefeld = overrated artist who needs improvement :)

there are others who would run circles around his art and probably even draw it better.

He seems more mediocre than god.

Have you seen the Captain America pic he did, good lord it looks like cap took too much steroids....

  • Stan Lee is such a douche.

  • @Hippobotimus yeah, the most important person in the industry is a douche, yeah yeah...

  • youngblood's disease!

  • Pockets, Pouches, Muscles and Guns.

I used to think that these were just exaggerations by guys who didn't like Liefeld. Now it's confirmed they were right. This guy's a hack.Mike Turner blows him out of the water.RIP

  • Complain all you want, but Liefeld did something well for a number of years that many of todays artists just can't do. He was able to capitalize on a particular type of storytelling and make a serious amount of money from it. Any writer or artist would work for him today because a) he still has the youthful fan in him and b) you can cash his cheques. He's far from realistic, far from traditional, but he has something very unique and not bland. But he is an anachronism.

  • Ugh, this is like watching a twelve year old drawing his version of a superhero. I mean, a shitload of spikes? Shoulder pads? Bullets fucking EVERYWHERE? A huge gun for no apparent reason?

He can be the nicest guy in the world, but he isn't being payed to be nice, he is being payed loads of money to draw...

And he fucking sucks at that.

  • Rob Liefeld = quintessenz of the 90's

  • Being nice doesn't mean you're the best artist in the world, you and many others need to understand that. I know plenty of artist who went to SVU who would blow this guy out of the water. Rob appealed to the machismo of Marvel hence the big muscles.

But he lacks the skill to draw hands or even feet. The best? no, that would be Alex Ross, the king? that would be Jack Kirby. Liefeld isn't even a close fourth.

Do some research, even Mcfarlane blows him out of the water.

  • @PrisonCipher was with you until you called alex ross the best comic book artist LMAO

  • @Terry show me someone on his level and I'll take it back, Liefeld can't draw feet, Jim Lee is known more for Batman than anyone else, Michael Turner died so all of the sudden people forget that every characters comes out looking like a a prostitute with way too much eyeliner. All the "greats" haven't shown half the skill that Ross has. It's my opinion, but show me someone with half or equal talent.

  • @PrisonCipher Don't get me wrong, Ross is great at drawing (painting?) pictures but he's only so-so at drawing sequential art. That's a completely different talent unto itself. That's where people like Kirby, Ditko, Byrne, Neal Adams really excel. I also don't like how Alex Ross uses constant photo references but that's more of a personal problem.

  • @PrisonCipher Ouch guy :)

  • @PrisonCipher What about Mauro Cascioli? I prefer him over Ross. Cascioli's art is more suited to comics in my opinon. I see Ross as a pin-up artist... kinda.

  • @INergalI , Preference is just that, so I can't say anything on it, but when comparing Liefeld to legends like Ross, you will see a major difference. Liefeld is famous for Cable, and that's fine, any meathead will enjoy the machismo that Rob brings to the table, but his inability to use proportion and even draw hands or feet is a very big negative.

Preference wise, show me any brazilian artist and I will nod. Also Shimada on deviantart.

  • @PrisonCipher Ok, I understand the problem with Liefeld. I'm just saying that (IMO) Ross isn't the best or one of the best comic artists out there. And that is only speaking of american comics, because (IMO again) there are many great manga artists (and japanese illustrators) much better than Ross.

  • @INergalI, Best comic artist? no, I agree, best painter in DC? yes, even Maggie Thompson would agree. But yes there are plenty of better CA's. So to restate my previous statement, Kirby is the king, Ross is the legendary painter.

  • @PrisonCipher Oh, in that case I agree to. Ross paints are good/nice/cool you put the word, but I don´t want him in my comics. In the covers yeah, why not? But don´t touch the interiors.

  • @PrisonCipher Jean Giraud, Katsuhiro Otomo and Mike Mignola are three examples that spring to mind that I would hold in much higher regard than Ross. I have to agree with Terry and say although I have enjoyed Ross' work I don't really agree with using too much photo reference for comic art, although in Liefeld's case I think it might help him to be less...well, shit. Fucking hell he is simply awful...my goodness...

  • @olbert, Its opinion so I can't sway people, nor do I want to, but some things are just true. Kirby is the king and Ross is the "big shot". There's a reason they get him on vg's and novels. The studios know he draws like a pro. Using photo reference means nothing when he has drawn very epic pieces of work without reference, its just some use to try and disprove his skill.

I actually prefer Brazilian artists but that's another story, I can name many artists who will never make it which is sad.

  • I always wondered why people loved Michael Turner so much.

  • @PrisonCipher Sir, I bow to you.

  • @PrisonCipher Salty...

  • @DeezMcNuggetz Sweet. Now lets act like we're at least over the age of 12. Liefeld is known as a horrible artist by many, even guys still going to art school. He can't draw feet, and apparently can't handle proportions. Kind of fail for a guy who's job it is, to get that shit right. Common sense would dictate he would know all of these fields....

  • @PrisonCipher true... Alex Ross... man i can't even imagine myself being that good i mean talent...

this is just... i don't know he's not horrid... but he could have improved alot more after becoming "pro"

  • @PrisonCipher

Alex Ross isn't a comic book artist. He's good at painting.

  • @Nexstarcrazyness has he done the art for a comic book? Yes? Then he is a comic book artist.

  • Man this dude is a scrub, look at the feet, pointed triangles not feet just damn triangles. This is something he has never bothered to learn how to do. Could be a nice guy but he's a hack, granted a much better artist then me but I wouldn't call him a great because he's far from it. *pro tip* Pick up a book on human anatomy and perspective!!

  • Met him at a comic convention this year. Very nice guy. While other artists were charging $20-$40 to do an original drawing he was doing them for free. I mean the line to see him was huge and most of people wanted a drawing. I got one of Deadpool

  • @powerstruggle55 Not only is he a nice guy, he is one of the best artists in comics today! The problem with the Rob Liefeld haters is that they take one high school art class and they think they know everything about drawing. I am a visual arts student in college and I can safely say that Rob is one of the best artists in comics! He does everything right with his art. These art class dropouts need to pick up an issue of Youngblood before they criticize a genius like Rob Liefeld.

  • @Rcinch1 you dont need to know everything about drawing before having an opinion on somebody or being able to pick up liefelds tiny feet, millions of pouches, tiny heads and average storytelling in his art. by the way, are you a fan of comics or a newcomer?

  • @KroliggBloodhoof I have been reading comics since 1993. I started seriously collecting them every month since I was 14 in 1997 and fell in love with the comic book "SPAWN."

I still collect them to this day.

Rob is one of the best artists in comics!

You need to read some of the early Youngblood stuff that he did which is now available in trade paperback.

So check that stuff out before you criticize Rob Liefeld and his greatness.

  • @Rcinch1 can you describe something he does right please? have you ever seen his famous 'odd' version of captain america? how can you think hes the best in comics?

  • Fascinating to watch, thanks for posting!
