If you don't mind me asking...between 0:15 & 0:20 of this educational video, what was the question you originally didn't hear (i believe you say "whats up") and then replied "yep" too? who are talking too? what is the relevance of this clip of the video? and finally why are you wearing the headphones?
@AmberGrey0012 It's pretty easy--you just lightly touch the top of your mouth with the tip of your tongue while the sounds come from your throat. Remove the tip of your tongue quickly to end it to get that 'd' sound that's also in there. Try it with "ru"~
Borned in Spain, speaking English since the age of 6 and from that age, I´ve been emulating standard British accent. I´ve got it quite good but I´m afraid I have to go to England to keep it up!
I don't find his example about the spanish language to be accurate. We too stress syllables when we speak, the only difference with english is that we have a " ´ " to stress what the "loud" part of the word is in most of them, while in english you do this without any stress mark.
I'm Filipino and I have a great American accent and grammar, come on guys! don't be a racist bastard cuz we filipino's are bad ass at speaking English, we are ONE of the best asian english speakers but not ALL speak english since......you guessed it, IT'S A FREAKIN' THIRD WORLD COUNTRY!!! T_T
Yes! I'd love that! If I had the choice then BBC and Irish "accent" were my favorite "accents"
But people, be careful: when talkng about Irish, Britsh, American "accent", you actually mean "dialect". Accents occur, when different languages (like German and English) are involved. BBC English is either a variation or a dialect, not an accent. I do linguisitics, I'm pretty sure of what I just said.
His Rrr is somewhat hilarious, when he is trying to do a French one...
Where I come from we usually say the r, but it`s faint. It doesn`t sound like the standard English r, but not the rrrrr like french or Italian, it sounds a little bit like English people that are trying to do the rrr it but cant, but we use the r way more often than in standard english=) it`s stronger pronounced before vowels.
How dull, I ended up explaining how we speak! I bet you consider this as interesting^^
Spanish isn't like that, its like French and Italian... we use tonic accents to increase length in different syllables. English speakers cant understand that because they have simpler grammar and can use one word to mean many things, according to the context in which it is used. For example, "its" and "it´s" differ in significance, like in Spanish "tú" and "tu", "sé" and "se" "ésta", "esta" and "está" and they are all pronounced differently.
Actually the important trail when pronouncing Spanish is the strength of the sylable not its length. And, yes, we Spanish people don't realize, but we sound like a machine gun to English speaking people. Specialy some Spanish accents. Take Mexican Spanish. It sounds machine gunned even in my ears and I am a native Spanish speaker from the north of Spain.
Anyway it's also true that some Spanish accents are more "musical" and it seems to me that the tonic sylable is longer than the rest. That's the case in Argentinian Spanish It sounds somehow like Italian. Don't you think so?
well, my grandmother is french and she always says to me: "alé, alé, ma fille, we agge goingg stggaith away to the doctogg" she lived and she stills living in london since 1970 lol
I'm German, and even I have to say that the Dutch accent is too similar to the German one to make a difference. There *ARE* some sounds however, that can be found in one, but not in the other language. But Germans understand a lot of Dutch and it works even better the other way around.
Well i live in Bulgaria and i have russian accent.Whatever i try my stupid accent never go away.Really want to learn na australian accent but first i need to remove my russian one.In Bulgaria we speak bulgarian wich is kinda simular to russian and practicing english is kinda hard because in school i learn french, not english.. ;x If u guys have some ideas how to remove russian accent ,pls tell me :)
When I was a teenager, I used to have an Italian marked accent and actually English was a sort of mediation language, that is to say I used to keep thinking in Italian and translating in English.
In order to lose your native accent (that is a sort of memory of the dependence between your native language and your english), I think you really have to forget about your native language and assume English as another language, that is to say that you think in English and of course you speak imitating
Once you get the rythm and you see how it works, it's very simple indeed because you think in English and you've got in your mind everyday experiences (and dialogues of course) that become part of yourself until you find sponteneous to think in English! You've got to keep practising of course, or at least keeping up listening to the English TV if you go back to your native country!
Yeah, we speaking English emphasize on the keywords of the sentence because it's easier to understand, Spanish is so hard to understand as a second language, even if you have a good vocabulary, because you can't tell where one word ends and the next begins xD
