The Fed (1% rates and allowing banks to loan money they don't have and leverage it in secondary credit markets)

Fannie and Freddie (banks could dump suspect loans forced by the CRA)

NBER and BLS (fudging inflation, GDP and unemployment stats, misleading the public on economic health)

Only they can spend money into existence and have most control over how fast banks can multiply the money they inject. When they inject too much, they raise rates, which puts the country in recession.

"Value" is based on "Confidence & Desire", that's a tenant of all economic activity.

The FACT Bush vastly lowered our country's standing in the world has had the simple effect of pushing our "Value" lower, thus prices rise for what we pay for imports and the products we produce lose value to others.

This is the entire reason our mortgage crisis happened. Nobody in the world respects us.

Also, the economic meltdown would have occurred with or without Iraq. Think about it. Just do some basic math and think about it. The housing crisis costs way more than the Iraq war. When comparing the cost of the war to the cost of our individual and cultural irresponsibility in housing, Iraq is a drop in the financial bucket. The economy is in ruins because we don't know what anything is worth anymore in terms of major collateral. No collateral, no lending.
