Not alone? Who else was it fighting the war of independance? He has been involved in Irish politics for 30 years. And was instrumental in bringing realtive peace to Ireland. An agreement which created cross border bodies such as the North South Ministerial Council which gives Dublin executive powers in the North. Also until 1998 The Republic claimed soveignty over the the 6 Ulster counties so the south clearly considered him Irish. Crawl back under your rock
