It's debatable about if girls 14 and up know what they are doing. In some countries they agree with you, and it is legal. A big part of peoples judgement is on the legalities of things. So, this means when the age of consent was 18, anyone younger they would call you sick. I can tell you many studies that indicate that most people who feel sexual attraction toward kids will never become sex criminals. For example a study in the university of Manitoba shows that about 21% of males are attracted to kids to some degree and we can easily conclude that only small proportion of that will become child abusers as shown in registers.

@crazy3d First, pregnancy and disease:- certainly the older partner should act responsibly, but it's not beyond a teenager's understanding (so far as this is a real issue, it's BETTER for the teen to be with an adult who knows more about it, than with someone their own age).
As for this stuff about "dominance" or power balance in the relationship, in many (maybe even most) relationships between adults that exists to some extent. There's nothing wrong with it, it's a non-issue.

The fact is that the current age of consent law in most countries does not recognize any parental authority over children's sex lives at all. For example, if my ten year old daughter wanted to date (and have sex with) a thirty year old man, I would give my permission. But the law not only denies my right to allow the relationship; it would actually treat ME as a criminal as well! Crazy, huh?

@Haydenbrooks83 Often child molesters don't see anything wrong in their actions due to their lack of empathy and hence their rehabitation may not work. I hope you can understand the difference between child molester and pedophile. Sexual attraction toward children isn't the thing they are trying to cure. They are trying to help some individuals who cannot control themselves or don't understand the wrongness of their actions to change. But these are sex offenders which are minority among pedos.

I think that when science reveals more about this issue it becomes less of a taboo and people would regard it with rationality.

@Haydenbrooks83 If by pedophile you mean a person who is primorarily sexually attracted to children then the answer is yes. There are child molesters who cannot control themselves due to several pschycological disfunctions in the same way there are non-pedophile rapists in our society that aren't able to control themselves. However multiple studies show that the number of pedophiles in our society is a lot greater than the number of actual child molesters. Most pedophiles can control themselves.

@PiecesofEternity Most people who feel sexually attracted to children are against sexual molestation of minors. Stop looking at the world through black and white lenses, we cannot deem all pedophiles as bad people because most of them don't abuse children. Its important to try to reduce molestation but this isn't going to be achieved by demonizicing all pedophiles it will only worsen the situation by creating misunderstandings and fallacies which we have enough in our society already.

@PiecesofEternity Could you kindly address me studies or researches that proves your opinion that all pedophiles will become sex offenders? I can tell you many studies that indicate that most people who feel sexual attraction toward kids will never become sex criminals. For example a study in the university of Manitoba shows that about 21% of males are attracted to kids to some degree and we can easily conclude that only small proportion of that will become child abusers as shown in registers.

@PiecesofEternity Being sexually attracted to something has got nothing to do with morality since it is not an act or choice but only a distinctive feature of us. However if a person decides to ACT on his urge only then it becomes immoral. Hence sexual attraction toward kids itself is not connected with morality and thats why people who feel that kind of attraction can still be morally right and not do anything harmful to anyone.

It annoys me when people say its a nonviolent act....has anyone ever asked the abused if they think its violent? Well I'll answer. You do feel violated, like you were raped of every pure thought you ever had about life. Some people never feel "clean" again. Some people even say it feels like they've killed you because the child you were seconds before you were molested dies. I really hate the nonviolent speech, its nonsense.
