joey was the soul of the Ramones, Dee Dee was the majority of the song writing and Johnny was a dick

Johnny was the sound and the driving force of the Ramones! I bet you didn't know this, but when Joey was trying to get the Ramones to play pop and wanted them to drop the loud punk sound, Johnny was the one that got them to keep the punk mentality. AND throughout the Ramones' entire career, Johnny sometimes would have to kinda act like a dick to keep them going because of Dee Dee's drugs and Joey's OCD and drinking problem.
