there is the opposite to everything is the rule, hip hop is no different. from hip hop the bad impuritives was extracted of what is known today as rap. the media gangsters like 50 cent, lil wayne, 2pac, biggie, etc etc. took it to a whole different level of violence and negativity.
The song being played and what hip hop started as are two completely different things. REAL hip hop = poetry that speaks of way to help our people and bring happiness.. tthe crap being played today = hoes, guns, bullshit basically
I have a problem with the text that reads "one of the first parties to have played Hip-Hop music was thrown in this building because, clearly, there was no "hip hop music" back then and what was played was soul, funk and records from other genres that helped define hip-hop as a sound and music genre. Hip Hop culture was already in effect, thus these records being spun, in the first place.
Hip hop is not rap! Respect the 4 elements and those who helped to developed the culture. Not these plastic gangster rappers of today who have helped to degrade the culture and butcher the term. the 4 elements!!!!: MCs, DJs, B-Boys, and graff heads. do your research, it was never about just rap music.
@sypha0x It was his sister, and she invited her brother who DJ'd. His sister invited all the guests and got the room and got all the refreshments. Clive Campbell DJ'd. Cindy Campbell organized it.
I'm just saying. "Who "organized" the first party and invited the DJ?" In my Socratic style. It's important for a culture to recognize it's mother, because we are missing so many sisters.
@SlabTzu I agree 100% I know the both of them personally and we all acknowledge the same exact thing including Kool Herc always showing his sister recognition. His Sister and Kool Herc have both been recognized by the United States Congress as the founding fathers of Hip Hop at 1520 Sedgwick & Cedar Avenue. Recognizing it as the official landmark of HipHop's birth August 11 1973 =)
It was 36 years ago to this very day that a young Clive Campbell aka DJ Kool Herc and a handful of kids in a small, sweltering rec room of 1520 Sedgwick Avenue on August 11, 1973 started a music and cultural revolution that changed the world forever!

hip hop is not the same and yea most rappers these days dont know about herc and disrespected hip hop. they failed to use to four elements to keep hip hop the way it was back then
That's right August 11 1973 Baby! Peace to the Legendary DJ Kool Herc! I was just talking to him the other day. The world got mad LOVE for you HERC! PEACE!
