Hey i have a problem i got a new hamster because my old one passed away and when ever i try to pick her up she wriggles and squirms and everything and she can sometimes get away from me she will take food from me and eat from my hand but when i try to pick her up she dosent want to be picked up and i need to tame her, also when i pet her even when pet her she like runs away what wrong, what do i do?
@Sharethegoddamcookie She should stop as soon as she is picked up and taken out. If she does stop then it's not a problem, it's natural. You probably just had a partucularly dosile one before. If she keeps squirming then I don't know.
@Sharethegoddamcookie I do find that hamsters never stop wriggling and squirming when you hold them! Keep persisting with the taming and she'll become more trusting of you. Also, if she's very young, hamsters get *much* calmer and easier to handle as they grow into adulthood.
aww so cute ... what type of popcorn is it (what brand) and is it ok for them to eat butter or sweet popcor??

Hi, I pop my own, so there's nothing but sunflower oil and popcorn. (I like plenty of sea salt on mine, but not until after the hamster has had hers!) Good luck with the new hammie and I hope you put some vids up!
Oh, P.S. no to sweet or buttery or salty popcorn ... keep things as plain and natural as you can for your hammie, as anything fatty, sugary or with additives will not do them any good at all. You might as well give them plain and natural treats which will be good for them and which they'll love!
have you ever had a long hair syrian i have a short and a long haired at the moment and the short one never bite me and likes to be handled but my long haired one well lets just say he is the opposite i know all hamsters are diffrent bu every long haired one i have had is either vicous or scared and all the short haired ones i have had are very placid
That's interesting ... I've never heard about long hair/short hair differences, but I think some of the dispositions vary according to colour. For example, a hamster with the "yellow" gene can be a little stroppy, and the dark grey agouti tends to be calm and gentle ... but a lot depends on their individual characters I think! Maybe your long-haired ones have just been grumpier?! I've only had short-haired hamsters so I'm not sure really.
oh thank you for the reply and i have had grey short haired ones they were so gentle and nice. but i think my long haired one was mistreated in the pet shop for one he was really skinny when i got him 2 when i was picking him out he was living with another Syrian and the pet shop owner didn't really know how to pick him up but i have been getting him a lot better for one today was the first day he let e pick him up hooray and he has lots of scars i feel sorry for the other hamsters. well thanks
