  • So sad this did not make it further up the charts. Sad reflection of things these days. The Priests are always brill, but Shane, you sounded great. Take care in the new year man. Remember, you're only human so no flying too close to the sun, okay? We don't want to lose you just yet! ;-)

  • Shane is better than Bing FACT

  • Shane, happy birthday. we all have a drink on you!!! cheers!

  • Great version . Almost as good as David Bowie and Bing Crosby's .

  • I just did.

  • Very moving. What a strangely compelling character MacGowan is, as well as a great troubadour.

  • Best of luck Shane, good Lad.

  • shane looks great, cant wait for christmas and this is a top quality song

  • Anyone else think that the Priest on the right looks like the chef John Burton-Race?

  • Please encourage National and local radio stations to play this song.

  • Quite beautiful.

  • very special so wonderful thx 4 sharing

  • I HOPE that the Priests will have a profound effect in Shane's life going forward. Maybe this is a new beginning for him. I have always prayed for him as I love the music that he has written over the last nearly 25-30 years. He has brought me great joy. Maybe they will form a strong friendship & get Shane on the path he needs to be - towards God. Ironically , Shane grew up with his family saying the Rosary each day. God give him strength. I still love his voice & his ability to write music!

  • @thehimalayanclimber I saw Shane sing last night in Brixton the man is a Icon. His path has already been mapped out for him. He has had sessions with down and outs to the very rich and famous to the farmer sitting on a high stool. God Bless and love and respect the man for his talents. There is only one Shane Macgowan.

  • You know, I used to be in Chorus... Basically my whole life... And We actually sang a song like this... (I know this may a suprise) If you know me

  • I know Fr Delargy and he's a great guy!

  • David the priest is my uncle ;]

  • A great great idea... but there are vastly better versions out there... it gives me no pleasure to knock the recording because its a collaboration made in Heaven!

  • @seanreillyireland Thanks for sending it over to me . You made my day man ! This is absolutely beautiful ! Shane looks like he's in good hands.

  • @vintagezigg thaks 4 saying that.

  • greatest song writer of our generation love shane get goosies when he sings

  • Lets hope Shane makes it too No 1 this christmas

  • This is fab hope it makes number 1 and knocks out any tat that X Factor might produce!!

  • shane is special,no one will ever write a greater christmas tune than fairytale of new york makes me laugh and cry

  • @frednob thanks.

  • shane is just a a legend...off too see him with the pogues on dec 18th..........6th xmas runnin

  • What a collaboration! Superb! Love it love it love it!!! Always loved Shane ...now want to know more about the other guys...and stop the priest bashing you numb nuts.....

  • @adcct thanks 4 saying that.

  • brillant love it

  • oh thankfully something different for Christmas, so hard in Australia dreaming of a White Christmas.

  • Ahhhh go shane!!

  • The juxtaposition of the classically trained Priests with Shane MacGowan is terribly moving. MacGowan makes this song - he lives every word and note, and his life-hardened face only adds to the power in the tension of opposites.

  • @crimson2837 well said... couldn't agree more

  • Very nice, Christy was cuter though:)

  • C'mon and join the Shane MacGowan for Christmas NO.1 2010 group on Facebook!

  • This song just grows on me every time i watch it. Shane is such a legend, can't wait to see Pogues in a couple of weeks.

  • @johhhn987s Are they not ment to be doing there fair well preformance this week in kerry??

  • Amazing collaboration and deserves to be number 1. About time we had an actual xmas song no.1 at xmas instead of the current pap. So good to see Shane too.

  • one of them priests is wearing sunglasses lol

  • Just wonderful

  • shane macgowan is cool

  • fr.o'hagan was our parsih peiest

  • This is not as amazing (as a song) that I thought it would be but...getting 3 priests and Shane together to do the song is a BRILLIANT idea and just about sums up the spirit of Christmas!

More power to the elbow of whoever thought it up in the first place

  • No fairytale but great song. Shane is a legend, a great, a god.

  • this songs amazing and u can feel the magic in it songs like these are rare everyone must download this song off itunes and make this number one

  • shane macgowen is amazing

  • Not quite fairytale but anything with the legend, the great, the god that is Shane Macgowan is a must have.

  • Very good.

  • Make it the Xmas NO 1.

  • Evviva Shane!!!!!!!!!

  • this combination works well, very well..0

  • not heard it all the way through however the first two minuites have been so beautiful i shall download it straight away!

  • Shane's obviously given up on the new teeth then!

  • What a great combination!

  • Brill!!! Someone should start a "Facebook" campaign to make this the Christmas number one and get right up Cowells snout.

  • We fooking have you'll be pleased to know! Go to Shane Macgowan and The Pogues Appreciation Society on Facebook and you will see the link to it there! cam on the ShaneO and The Priests

  • @sail1948 we have set up a facebook page called shane macgowan for christmas no.1

  • Match made in heaven!! Totally stunning version, Shane MacGowan you LEGEND! Us Irish are proud of you!

  • Fantastic!!!!!

  • excellent. love it. well done bout time we get some proper music that is actually uplifting

  • lovely video, great singers. love ye. hope ye get no 1

  • Three priests singing about a little drummer boy.

par umpa pum pum, up the bum.

  • I've always loved the song, but this performance is terrible. Want a good Poguey Christmas, try "Fairytale of New York". Not exactly my kind of music, either, but at least the voice and tone fits the music. (Although, seriously, you like this sort of stuff, listen to Tom Waits.)

This, though, is almost as far off the mark as Frank Sinatra lounging his way through the quintessential hopeful but energetic beginner's song, "New York, New York".

  • one of those priests look like the tv chef john burton race

  • Cant believe Shane looks so healthy on this, nice (:

  • mac gown at his best brill brill brill

  • oh this is beautiful! Christmas no 1, perfect song for the despair of right now...

  • Smiling ear to ear! Lovely! Wish they could've gotten David Bowie in on it.

  • when shanes sings "i played my best for him" it makes me smile...

  • Shane has deffo still got it ! Totally masterful

  • Shane McGowan GENIUS !

  • Christmas No 1 ...' Defo' !!

Very Poignant ending ... Powerful ... Drummer, Young soldier .. at this time ..

Hence lingering end... appealing for .. 'Peace on Earth ' this Christmas ..

  • Christmas No 1 ...' Defo' !!

  • to my suprise i like this ,i have allways loved shane and the Pouges music ,some of my best memorys are jumping up and down to the Pouges.Good luck Shane.

  • Gawd bless ya Shane.

  • Shane looks very sober. Awesome :D

  • video looks awesome. i have a feeling we're witnessing the introduction of yet another Christmas classic. come on people, this is what shpould be topping our music charts!!!

  • good to see shane sober for once

  • @blackrain456 Agreed and its good to see the priests not fiddling kids for once

  • father martin you legend! hope it goes no1

  • whhooooo my friends wee brother is the drummer boy and my english teacher (who i luv) is brothers with 2 of the priests!!!!!! LOL

Should be number one for Christmas if there's any justice in the music biz ;)

  • @335dude

Exactly touch of class from Shane.

  • @335dude the priests thought5 he was cute aswell

  • A great video and the Little Drummer Boy really adds the final touch! .........here's hoping it gets to number !

  • This is a good christmas number 1. The guy who created the greatest xmas song ever and three men who are everything for what christmas stands for, celebrating jesus christ.

  • Really good number 1 for christmas

  • superb shane hope it gets too number 1

  • Three priests and one hellraiser! Let's hope it gets to Christmas Number 1 in UK!

  • been following shane for 15 years....honestly....and this is not an exaragaton as i have double checked with a fellow shane fan......this is the best recorded vocal shane has done since before crock of hold......life, feeling, soul.....(i know its a bit of a gimmick etc...with the priest...) but on this evidence there would be no problem with shane recording a new album.....as i know he has written some stuff......

  • Good to see Shane MacGowan looking so well. God Bless him and our priests. I agree with @01deecee.

  • Brilliant, let's hope it gets to Christmas Number 1 in UK instead of the usual X-Factor drivel.

  • @01deecee Amen to that!

  • @01deecee well said!!
