There isn't a "one size fits all" kind of hypnosis. From what I recall of the video from seeing it 3-4 days ago, Brown is a bit more directive than the hypnotists I've worked with. Directive hypnosis is less effective because it's intrusive, bossy.
To address your 2nd comment, I'd have to know more about the hypnosis that "hasn't worked" on you - how was it performed, who did it, etc. There are several factors that could account for it "not working".

There is a white blip at 1:23 and at 3:24 you can see it is the image of a man tied to a chair making you think that you are stuck.
The film has nothing to do with it its all in your head and derren has used these two images either side of the film to make you think that you are stuck

the video he showed had nothing to do with making you unable to stand, its all about power of sugestion. he suggested to you that you wont be able to stand after watching the clip by constantly refering to how hard it will be to get up. the clip he showed was just away for him to futher convince you something genuine was happening. people who are very gullable would be effected by this. ;)

Anyway I quit watching after it didn't work but I assume the film is bullshit and the picture when he's talking is what does it.
