Oh ...My...Gosh!!!....Luv it when they put my 2 fav's Deb & Helene as the only girls in a routine together. The one starting at 3:13 to eddie rabbit's "someone could lose a heart" was "Smokin' Hot!!!!!.....to say the least! Like...had to splash water on my screen Hot! They both looked absolutely stunning! And those dogs, oh man what I would've given to be either Tony or Alex dancing with either of those ladies! My goodness! Some guys get all the luck.
My friends dad was the director for Hour Magazine that also taped at KTLA. So of course we spent all our time over on Stage 6 instead! I really like these Kevin Carlisle choreography days better, and the dancers from my view seemed much happier in these days too.
That must've been so cool! I wish I could've seen the KTLA set. Unfortunately, by the time I made it to my first taping they had moved to Paramount. I really like the original stage so much better. Thanks for the inside scoop!
I tru;y enjoyed this footage, as always. I loved how you kept the opening number and added in the full countdown. Madame was off the chain!! Darcel always works it out as the one-woman crowd pleaser, I just loved her!! Deborah's expression during the skit was purely hypnotic!!
Maybe that is why she was "Principle" dancer istead of "Lead" - she was always following a count or two behind everyone else. A simple fact that didn't change in the 5 or so years she was on the show....
I've always noticed how Darcel is usually a tad off in her dancing and if you noticed whenever they are all dancing together, she always looks at everyone else.
I never noticed that until it was pointed out by you and others. Now that I look for it I can see that is true. However, I don't think any of the dancers could come close to matching the sure sensuality of Darcel dancing in her solo performances.
Your are right, she had a unique style that captured the attention of many and it truly was highlighted in her solo performances. But from a purely technical point, I makes some wonder why she was Principle if there was such a gap in her training. But her natural dance ability was a gift!
Great stuff.
I remember Solid Gold.
Thanks.

Pam had an injured leg or ankle for a couple tapings in 82.

Kind of a bummer because they only got paid if they were seen on screen during a shows airing. BTW, how do you have the scoop on her not being there?

@GenieGuy7 I adored Pam so growing up ! I remember not seeing her for a few shows and being absolutly heartbroken thinking she was gone forever.

It was pretty embarrassing that she was always the odd one out in the group for so many years. She only should have done solos or duets.

Meant to say "sheer" sensuality
