How to update to EF02 2.3 Gingerbread on the Samsung Epic 4G

I am very disappointed with this video. I downloaded all the files, on the xda developers website it said to not use the bootloader so i didn't. My phone was previously rooted but it is not anymore. All my applications are gone, and they aren't even in the market. What should I do?

alright for some reason when i go into downloading mode, and connect the usb, (keep in mind i have the samsung drivers installed) the yellow sign that says ":0COM6" never comes up into odin ? i do get a message on my computer saying USB device not recognized...? but it works when its not in downloading mode...

Thanks for the great video. Well, everything went well, but when I check for updates and click install to run the latest update, my phone shuts off and I have to manually start it. After restarting my phone, I basically have no service, and I had to re-install to get it working again. I tried about 3 times with the same result. The solution is to not run the update, but let the phone do it on it's own. It will pop up a message to install the update, and at that worked!

Just updating from stock 2.2 to 2.3 using oden as described in the video. For some reason, oden is stuck in modem and isnt progressing to Param, recovery, kernal, then reset. Is there anything I can do? So far, it is still hooked up to oden, the phone is on and still "downloading"

@qbking77 Thanks for the reply. I didnt want to unplug the phone from Odin since I had unfortunetly bricked one phone already! Odin was stuck on Modem for about an hour so I did unplug. Tried powering up the phone and nothing happened. So found another on craigs and bought it. This morn I had time to retry powering up the phone, got it to the loader screen, then retried Oden and it loaded fine. So all is good.

Regarding the comments from the user who said he had the Rar file that doesn't work - he probably doesnt have winzip on his computer - the same thing happend to me - I had to install winzip in order to be able to unzip that - and when I did I saw the odin install file and everything else - that guy must not have a zip program on his computer and when he installs one, he will be able to do it more successfully.

@ShimmeringGlass hmm you don't have superuser anymore? You might want to try and flash the su through clockwork that is posted in the OP of the link I have in the description.

I am what I would call Intermediate as far as doing tech stuff like this -I have wanted to upgrade my EPIC 4g ever since I heard about the cool things coming in Gingerbread but to be honest was scared sh.less to try it . After finding your video, I decided to give it a shot and Viola' - I was able to get it done. My onlly concern is that I did ROOT my phone prior to doing the upgrade and I wonder if that will be an issue if and when Sprint releases any new updates? anyway-thanks

@ShimmeringGlass If you're phone is rooted you won't get any OTA updated.. if you have the latest CWM however, you should be able to just flash a future rom through clockwork and it will update you.

My friend did it and bricked his phone but he fixed it some how and when he put this on his phone it was no longer rooted... is there a way to put this on my phone and root it as well?

@jsgeezie123 Just watch my video how to flash the acs bamboozle rom! With that rom you will get the best gingerbread experience. Just wipe data/cache/dalvik 3X each in CWM 3.1.0.1 and install the rom!

Just to provide a update. I followed the instructions in this video to the tea. I am using a window 7 64bit desktop along with the software mentioned in this video. I had a issue getting the desktop to find the phone but after that was fix, everything else went to plan for updating. there was one other issue and that was with MMS. had to change the info inside the APN setting to fix this. but all is good now. Great video.

@sockaplaya I find that I have the best connection and speeds with the EF02 modem.. but its really unstable, I had it give out a couple times and I had to reflash the modem to have signal. EF10 and EC05 modems seem to be similar.
