  • You must really love this bass. I think it sounds great! The harmony is so stable. I would flinch if this was a regular bass...

  • very impressive fretboard!

i'm wondering, on this bass, what keys are the best and worst to play in?

  • @symphoma What keys are the worse and best to play in? What? Every key is good to play in. Alot of people seem to avoid Sharps and Flats, but theres nothing wrong with using a sharp or flat as a tonic(root key). I think some people are just atuned to hearing A rather A-flat so they hear it as if there tuning is flat.

Only way to find what keys are good to play in is to play them all, theres not that many keys, just play the major scale on some different keys, get an ear for it.

  • @ov3rcl0cked

i think he's asking what relative keys are good to modulate to, given an open tuning. if i remember correctly, this instrument was tuned A D A D, with D = 1/1. i could have done E A E A, F# B F# B, or anything else as long as the relative intervals between strings were maintained.

given D=1/1, i'd say that the regular I ii iii IV V vi vii were the best to play in. so i spent most of my time on D, G, A.

  • Beautiful!

  • sounds good. I defretted my SG awhile ago, thinking about putting some JI frets. What materials did you use?

  • i made new slots with a regular fretting saw (which was a huge ordeal), and i just cut and filed normal fretwire and hammered it in. superglue was used as needed. i would definitely not recommend doing it this way. unless you have access to a CNC machine, look for something to use as glue-on frets. either half-round rods (hard to find), or i know a guy that sells special 'tangless' fretwire. just message me if you're interested in that.

  • very nice!

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • The just thirds were messing with my ears at first... I'm just so used to hearing guitars in equal temperament.

  • Great
