Lots of symbolism in this; it's really deep in that aspect. And the animation is really skilled to be able to make an atmosphere like that.

the differences in animals represent the differences in their personalities. For instance, the rhino is short-sighted (both in a literal and figurative sense), and quick to temper, like in real life.

The animals are also symbolic in that the crocodile is different from the rest of them (like ethnicities or habits) because he's a carnivore/reptile/other differences.

To be honest, i'm not exactly sure the symbols of the elk (docile?), and the hippo (big-mouthed? but that would be the rhino)
