  • I was born a year later didn't know this was on TOTP

  • Ow wow .... the sublety, the restraint - makes the big lines have even more impact. Music.

  • Does she know how brilliant this is? Flawless!

  • I'm glad she refuses performances more often than she agrees to do things like this... Her music videos are artful. This is... less.

  • not many women are on the top shelf; kate bush is there

  • I'm with mickram23

  • Hey Pink, Maddona,Lady Gaga etc....this how it is done!!!!!!

  • @shadyalan1 Pink? Please name one similarity between Kate Bush and Pink for you to even write this comment? Moron!

  • Comment removed

  • @annakate123456 did I say he called her Pink you stupid cunt? Clearly he thinks there some basis of comparison to even bring up Pink of all people in this video, and besides, Pink, Madonna and Lady Gaga have their own fanbase and are highly successful, they don't need to watch Kate at all, idiot.

  • WOW!! Love the Red Shoes album; LOVE MY RED SHOES, LIPS, Nails, Clothe ;-) I knew MY GAL would do justice to a song having to do with RED. Oh how true I Was. WOW!!! 'And so in Love' just reached to my heart + I felt it braking in two from this special BEing that 'Slipped' and said words he never used because of what Hollywood did to mix-up humanity of what the true meaning of Love really is. The back up singers were fantastic; they complimented Kate's most velvety voice not ever over powering.

  • The ideal woman. Stunningly beautiful and the most original musical artist Britain has ever produced. I really can't imagine us seeing anyone like Kate Bush again. If only she would perform live once more!

  • So amazing!!!

  • Can you imagine anything this subtle, this deep, this intelligent ever getting onto TOTP now!!!??

    Sadly not.

It's disheartening to think how far backwards pop culture and music has gone since the 90's.

We had no idea just how good it really was at the time!

  • @soundseeker63 very true flowers321, just loud rubbish these days, nothing as moving as that sort of song. cheers

  • @soundseeker63 There is now TOTP 'now'.

  • Kate, I love you for being a recluse because that makes you unique, rare and precious. Especially today when most pop artists need to express all their stupidest ideas by twitter and facebook.

But please, can we have more than a personal appearance every two decades???

  • It's the fact that she's lip-synching w/ such emotion that's aggravating. A whole-hearted attempt at trickery!

  • only one miss kate

  • its LIVE

  • pretty good, but not her best.

  • she looks fantastic.. shame its not live..

  • HOW can one imagine the song without the guitar? I'm glad that the new ASIL still has it although I haven't heard it yet...

  • Kate all in black and leather !!!! yeah baby!!

  • The sadness of a breakup leaves such a long distance to the joy of a new love... When you get back there, it is such a fine feeling. I have loved Kate since I first heard this silver throated goddess sing "Rolling the Ball" on Saturday Night Live in the 1970's, wearing a golden skin-tight body suit. She hit me on so many levels I'm still dizzy from it...

For the sake of love, for the sake of beauty, for the sake of Kate.

  • She totally needed to lip-sync on this one.

    The choreography's really complicated.

...Or maybe I'm thinking of "Hammer Horror".

  • @JK4C2012 Respectfully, you need to go have your hearing checked. I think you're missing an ear. If you could hear what we hear, you'd become a hermit and take alms at her feet.

  • @jeffteach

    Haters gonna hate.

I guess it's hard to detect sarcasm over the internet.

I worship Kate Bush, and I want a fog machine made of her tears.

  • @JK4C2012 No problem, not meant to cut you, I just meant to express how beautiful Kate's voice is. I am a huge fan, too. Wish I could see her in concert someday. "Hey Kate - come visit New Orleans and do a show at the House of Blues here."

  • @jeffteach Holy crap! There's another Louisiana person who knows of Kate! (And who is a huge fan!) I thought I was the only one! I may faint. I would kill to see her live!

  • Kate bush was very heavily influenced by another great english rose..Sandy Denny. The Bulgarian style voice ensemble heard here, can also be heard in Sandy's " Quiet joys of broherhood"..the air which was consequently pilfered by simple minds as " Belfast Child" ( an overblown mess0..sandy & Kate werte England's greatest ever...Imagine them together

  • 1:21 Hair of a goddess!!

  • I think this might be her last tv performance. Oh Kate, the things I would do to see you perform!

  • lady gaga

  • This song isn't about an affair with a computer, that song 'Deeper Understanding' is about a computer...

  • 1994 and I listened to Spice Girls at that time. Had to grow up and be mature enough for music not for masses.

Omg, this performance tores my heart into pieces....

  • She does that thing again, when she just stops singing and lets the outro speak..It makes her heartbreak so papable.

  • Imagine if instead of this, clapton was stood next to kate with his guitar.

  • I love Kate, so haunting so brilliant.

  • I love kate, so haunting, so brilliant.

  • i think she is sad

  • @DNE47 Well it's been said that she was depressed at the time so I think your assumption is correct.

  • Wonderful and so chilling..

  • I wonder whether the TRIO BULGARKA would have sounded good on the backing voices instead of Kates. I loved the tracks such as Rockets Tail that had a unique sound. . .

  • @Fawkhall That's one of my favorite songs. I love that Trio Bulgarka sound. BRILLIANT!

  • Sexy, sensuous and romantic--that's Kate!! What's not to Love?

  • Kate Bush is fucking hardcore. Man, I love Kate Bush.

  • So sexy here...

  • please wellcome, Miss.. Kate BUHsh. lol

  • Who cares if she is miming, everyone mimed on TOTP back in the day. What would you rather have KT on the telly miming or no KT on the telly at all.

  • @HALFSQUASHED I'm sure those exact words were how TOTP and other shit shows like it justifyed their existence.

  • She looks so beautiful here.

  • Amazing

  • great, somehow I hadn't seen this before.

  • god that is rubbish.how did she ever agree to mime onTOTP, and the backing singers

  • She's got the same heavy leather jacket on as in the promo for The Man I Love, and there's a feeling of 'can't be bothered' with this!

  • well constructed song

  • Backing singers sound just like Kate!

In fact... the whole performance sounds JUST like the record.

Kate Bush is possibly the greatest and most influential female solo artist of her century... such a shame she mimed here though!

  • Christ she looks hot here!! As usual

  • No way there's some lip syncing going on here...

  • hmmm Seems like there's some lip syncing going on here, no doubt.

  • Shut up, stop arguing and eat the music.. <3

  • The thing about Kate is that she is capable of musicalising mundane and profound things. For instance she is the only artist I know who can sing beautifully about the number Pi and washing machines. I love that woman, she has enriched my life so much.

  • @iGooft You forgot te song about an affair with her computer :>

  • What an awful performance. Kate Bush probably feels above the whole performing live and promoting side of being a singer and it shows, thank God she rarely performs, aside from her tour in 79, all of her live performances are a huge playback mess.

  • @deanriam.You reproach some Kate fans for criticizing Lady Gaga and you criticize Kate with virulence. That's the pot calling the kettle back!

  • @Katefanforever No it isn't, what's that have to do with it? I'm criticizing what I see in this video, it is completely different from a bunch of Kate fans making irrelevant comments about Lady Gaga in Kate's videos.

  • @deanriam.Tell me,are you Lady Gaga?

  • @deanriam.I understand your point of view. They could refrain from doing it.

  • what a voice||||brilliant

  • She doesn't look like she's enhoying it, her hair looks so beautiful I love that song the lyrics are so true.

  • hahhha backing singers!!! ahahha!

  • I know how much I love Kate Bush, but the 'The Red Shoes' album does not justice to her.I find it her least inspired album.Even here, performing this minor hit,Kate appears out of place. Listen to her other albums and you'll see how really talented she is...

  • @creeuk.I think you're right. The Red Shoes is her less inspired album but it's quite above the fray. The Dreaming and Hounds of Love are two masterpieces.Never For Ever and The Kick Inside are almost masterpieces. The Sensual World,Lionheart and Aerial are excellent. The Red Shoes is only very good.Kate is human, she can't always achieve perfection.

  • Is there a more beautiful, more talented person than Kate???

  • 3:02 inches xD

  • Her lyrics are amazing, like reading a theatre piece

  • kate bush = goddess

  • Never seen this before. Gorgeous. SO few who can sing with such genuine emotion. And yeah, sounds like original backing

  • You are comparing Kate to herself, that is unfair . Her performance outstanding as always!

  • @jpuhakk How is that unfair? Did you even think about this crap you wrote before posting it? Only a complete idiot would say that comparing one artist's current album or performances to those that they have done in the past is unfair.

  • Poor.. Kate Bush can give more than this...Where are you Kate???

  • Da,da,da,din toate punctele de vedere !!! Prezenta scenica si voce calda ! Fiind inca un melancolic, mi-a placut ! Merci bien !! Nu am auzit de ea pina azi .

  • omg

  • such a shame. She does so little live work.

  • I wonder if maybe they used the original instrumental backing track, and sang the vocals live over the top of it ?

The BBC had some weird rules about music performances on TOTP over the years. At one time, acts could play live. Another time, I seem to remember that the act was required to re-record their song in a BBC studio, and could then lip-synch (mime) to it.

I may be wrong though. The Beeb's policy seemed to change every few years, and I was very young !

  • beautyful............

  • SO FAIR.

  • Amazing how those backing singers have captured Kate's voice so convincingly...

TOTP deserve to die, it was a joke!

The song, on the other hand, is wonderful. In fact, as a Kate Bush obsessive, I would say that The Red Shoes is possible her best album. Controversial...?

  • I think every album of hers has something special. (every decade gives something different)

I really love The Dreaming which has been the hardest to apprehend to me.

As to The Red Shoes, I didn't realized all the qualities of it until I saw "The Line, The Cross And The Curve".

  • @morgman43 i do believe this is pre-recorded...the backup vocals are kate's you can hear it in the blending of the two...which is actually three...listen carefully, there are at lease three voices in the back up track.

  • @morgman43 haha very controversial. that's a bold statement to make. but i guess that's one of the joys of being a music lover. it's such a personal thing.

  • @morgman43 This isnt live.

  • @Grotomode No shit, Sherlock...

  • @morgman43 The kick inside reste la chanson qui degage le plus d'émotion. Kate est fantastique

  • @morgman43 I think that The Red Shoes isn't her best album, but it contains some masterpieces as "you're the one", Why should I love you", "and so is love" and "lily". The best albums are "Hounds of love" and "The sensual world". I'm a Kate Bush obsessive, too!!

  • voice of the gods

  • I love this song, but shame it's just her miming, because it's EXACTLY the same as the album recording. Hence Eric Clapton's guitar track accompanying her... shame it's not live voice

  • KATE FOR PRESIDENT/LEADER

  • Comment removed

  • Where's Eric?

  • kate will be an everlasting unique appearance.

she loves and cares for any live:

but why is veg-kate, wearing a leather dress? ;o(

  • It might be leatherette lol

  • my favorite female artist of all time - i will always love this woman:)

  • A really bad song from her, shes trying to be to american here and it dont suit her one bit, sorry Kate...

  • how the hell is she trying to be american - idiot - thats how she sings on her records - she is an artist:)

i see you dogging on Kate Bush in a lot of her videos - thats very sad man - you must have a very lonely life to do nothing but watch yt vids just to leave snipe comments! get a life - or at least watch video you like - tut-tut

  • Sir i have also said alot of good stuff about Kate Bush and yes some bad, but im just being honest, if i see a song i like of hers i will praise it but if i see a song i dont like i will say i dont like it. Im sure even Miss Bush herself would respect me for that...

  • Do take care snodds, the KT thought-crime police patrol here.

You can get roasted on YT just for writing 'pretty good, but not her best.'

  • LOL Arosegrowingold, thank you for the warning my friend...

  • @arosegrowingold hounds of love was her best ever album ...

  • @rodx69 'Her' best ever album??? I think you mean 'the' best ever album...

  • i agree with you. and i got whipped for saying that that aeriel thing was shit, and it was. ps my fav album of all time is the dreaming and i love all kate bush's stuff up to sensual world.

  • Your so right , I loved the Coral Room , and the other C.D had some amazing ideas , it just didn't work and sounded flat. Saying that , like you tiddler, I adore The Dreaming , Hounds of Love , and Sensual World (The most underrated one) , She's amazing , and I can't wait to hear what she'll do next.

  • she looks just soo beautiful :o

  • The best and most important female music artist in the world.

  • Richtig!!!

  • Agreed. Who comes even remotely close for sheer talent, originality, creativity and natural beauty? Kate B is in a league of her own.

  • she rocks so hard, i can't even explain!

  • whoa, whoa, whoa- where's Clapton?

  • Not her best song, she's miming and she barely moves a muscle - but she is still 100% amazing.

You can't take your eyes off her and 2:00 jusstjust snaps you in two.

  • damn i would have been 4 years old then, lol. I love Kate bush

  • Omg!! Same lol :P Kate Bush wow ..... No One Compares

  • In response to Oddn's comment... Kate Bush IIISSSSSS a household name!!

Probably not amongst 12 year olds. I'm not sure how old you are.

But Kate Bush has a fanbase of thousands and thousands, and is appreciated and respected by millions!

Everyone in the music industry knows of her, and she is a cited inspiration to numerous bands in the charts today.

    Her legacy is indestructible.

She's even cooler than that black leather jacket!

    Jack Cullen

    xx

  • Kate Bush is the best human on Earth

  • haha! I know she has a fanbase of thousands, etc, etc.. but generally i think she still deserves more recognition for her genius. Almost everyone would say that The Beatles are fantastic songwriters and blah blah blah, but Kate is often overlooked I find.. maybe i've just found this because I'm from a younger generation..? but i think it's shameful how most people my age aren't even aware of her, however influential she is. oh yeah i'm 18 ;)

  • i agree shes probably the most creative and amazing female singer of all time . . .

the only female who comes close is bjork for creativity and an amazing voice :P

  • sounds like mr gilmore on the lead guitar?

  • Actually, the CD proudly states that Mr. Clapton did this solo. Great to have friends like that, innit? :D

  • come to think of it the guitar sounds raspy and raw unlike gilmore wouldnt have guessed it was clapton hey all good hey?

  • they broke the mold with this girl, funny how so many people on youtube claim to know or have met famous people, beetrootrat?

  • wow

  • I am proud to be on this planet

  • yeah I know and kate did very few live songs it would be amazing to see her live like this

  • Great to see the beauty genius on stage

  • This show is SO FUCKING WEIRD. I get that they're not allowed to actually sing on here, but the backup singers!? Come on! How silly billy is this doodlecock?

  • You know, on hearing this my first thought was it's not as good as her earlier stuff, it's too slow, like how an artist's work gets as they "mature", etc, etc. But as I listened to it I realised how influential it was and is. It seems to me that alot of the music that emerged in the years following copied that underlying melody and rhythm. Just one more bit of evidence to underscore the wonderful genius of the Bush, I guess.

  • ...Devastating.

  • Beautiful song!!

  • Kate you're only love

  • the best, but the people in the crowd were probleby waiting for some idiot boy band, what a waste to some one like me and her true fans.

  • She's very beautiful in every way.

  • A beautifully understated performance. But don't give up your kidneys faceof...dialysis is no fun. (Not that I have kidney failure mind). But, I can't resist boasting that I saw her on her one and only tour...

  • I would give up my kidneys to see her perform live...BUT that ain't gonna happen :(

  • I must have missed this at the time - thanks for sharing!

  • its true ,in her prime ,she was more beautiful than any supermodel.her large eyes are stunning ,but her facial geometry is unrivalled .like looking at fine art,it soothes the soul.

  • Great clip. A very emotional song. I thought she was going to disappear into the cloud of dry ice for a minute too. :)

  • One of the best artists ever let alone female

  • yeah,

    and...enya,loreena mckennitt.

  • Hmm.. let's try to sum Kate up.Best female songwriter ever, best female lyricist ever, best female dance artist ever, best female singer ever, most beautiful woman ever.... have I captured it?

  • scouser, -- yes you caught it good

  • definitly!!!

  • scousfourteen-seconded, thirded, fourthed ad infinitum.

  • yep it's all true! But also I'd say she's on par with the Beatles and Bowie, etc, I think she deserves recognition not only as an amazing and probably the best FEMALE artist, but also one of the best artists in general - regardless of gender.

  • and you should add musical genius to your list ;) :P

  • Kate é o máximo!!!

    Kate is genious!!

  • Kate is the most beautiful woman on the planet!

  • In my defence- I'm quite drunk

  • of course it is! I'll never live that down (not being sarcastic, really am gob-smacked at my mistake). I do think it sounds/feels quite sensual worldy though.

  • Haha, I know how it feels; I also find it really bad when I make a mistake relating to Kate. It does, I think she wrote some of her best ever ballads around "The Sensual World"/"The Red Shoes"... the latter is one of the most saddest albums I've ever heard, it makes me want to burst into tears sometimes.

  • I can't believe I found out about Kate Bush just now, would've thought I'd heard of such a remarkable artist before.

  • Exactly the same.

  • I know!!! I've only just found out about her after watching "Queens of British Pop" on the BBC, and I couldn't and still can't believe that I hadn't heard of her before then! She's such a remarkable artist, and so unique, and such a genius that I'm shocked she isn't mentioned more often in regards to music. She should be a household name like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and it's a disgrace that she isn't.

  • The back ups were Kate's idea. I was in the audience. I can see the back of my head! It was an amazing evening because by complete coincidence I knew one of the women miming and got to meet Kate. I froze but Kate was was really nice and just giggled at me. I suppose the backing vocals are quite a big part so maybe Kate thought the women (who are real singers, just not here) were necessary.
