  • pretty funky, brother.

  • awesome dude... one of my favorite phish songs!!! currently working on this one.. and waitin for your vid of sparkle ;-)

  • @wtractor024 Oh snap! Thanks for reminding me

  • ehhhh what was with the chorus? GAGEGAGAGAAE

  • great cover man i just learned this song well the intro the solos are to fuckin hard for me to learn right now although i could probbly do it keep up the good work man and pick up the tempo

  • thanks for sharin' in the groove! like cjespo851 said last month, forget doing what trey does... he's sick, we'll never be him... BUT you can do your own thing and that's (kind of) just as cool! ;-) keep it up and good luck!

  • one thing i learned trying to play phish songs.......... stop trying to do anything trey does, it just frustrating, ive never heard anyone close to him

  • 100% agreed

  • Chorus is wrong.

  • very nice! put more soul into your vocals though!

  • yeah man i agree

  • People dont realize its hard to play and sing, just put a little more distortion on it next time...good job bro.

  • always cool to hear a constructive/supportive comment -- thank you :-) i'll be workin on a re-do of this one... i've improved since then (these vids are a progress diary) -- cheers and thanks for sharin' in the groove

  • trey doesn't use distortion. it just gets in the way of hearing the instrument. it especially should not be used to cover mistakes. phish does not have such hard licks but they require the right timing to get that phishyness to em. valient effort bro, keep rocking

  • Thanks commander Phish, but if you have listened to one Phish song in your entire life then you would know that trey does indeed use distortion. Ever heard of Wilson, Character Zero maybe? Congratulations on making a dumb statement. Theerion, i said that to help you out...without a full band behind you and unless you are Stevie Ray Vaughan it is impossible to give a solo a full sound without some dirt on your instrument.

  • Commander Phish signing in. WARNING AM ABOUT TO MAKE YOU FEEL STUPID. trey does not use a distortion pedal. he does however use a tube screamer, but those are definatly not the same thing. second of all, trey wipes his ass with stevie ray vaughan. dont get me wrong, i love SRV, scuttle buttin is the reason i started playing the guitar. third of all, besides for trey, and apparently SRV, Jerry Garcia also did not use distortion. if you learn toplay well you do not need to hide your sound behindit

  • also i know the catalog quite well, and those songs dont have distortion. that is the sound of a hollow body through a hot tube amp. lastly here is the link to treys rig if you want to see it sans distortion

  • YOU are an idiot. Tube amp gain IS distortion, no matter what your dumb opinions are on the subject. In fact, tube screamers are also distortion, they are overdrive pedals. Stevie Ray used a tube screamer and if you have ever kicked a tube screamer over amp distortion then you would know that your statement is incorrect. Trey IS a god, however, Stevie Ray changed the face of modern blues guitar and is by far one of the greatest blues players in history. Do not compare the two.

  • Sheeesh, I didn't read the whole back and forth thing.

I was going to say though, that SRV and Try both use dual Tube Screamers.

SRV also used a fuzz-face sometimes. Dunno if Trey ever throws in a fuzz.

  • Hey just so uh you can feel dumber, Overdrive and Distortion are completely different.

Since you're so savvy let me break it down for you.

Overdrive pedals - Push Tube Amps into their breaking point, unless they add a lot of coloring to that tone, most are just pushing the signal to naturally push the tubes into overdirve.

DISTORTION pedals - MODEL Overdriven tube amps, usually with high amnts of gain that are only pushed further.

So don't compare the two guitarists, but get your gear right.

  • Hey man, just thought id stop by, give you a few life pointers. First off, youre actually really early for this arguement that took place 7 months ago. And second, might wanna get your head out of your ass and realize that I was the one saying that it is a sin to compare the two guitarists. Third, i have access to google too, isnt it great? Oh and yes I am well aware of my equipment. Had you ever used a tube amp before, you would know that when you cut up the pre-gain and then adjust post-gain

  • up from there that it does in fact create distortion, no matter what title you give it. And lastly, go masturbate in the shower with a hair dryer you ignorant fuck.

  • Actually that's still overdrive, just heavy amounts of it! Distortion only exists on pedals that emulate OVERDRIVE TUBE AMPS.

And also, I prefer to use the genuine tube amps, you know the ones that your turn the volume knob... and you know,. it pushes the tubes which makes the amp louder. And eventually... the tubes break up the signal... Yeah those tube amps Hahahha thanks for the laugh

  • Go drink a bleach cocktail.

  • get a room, you two ;-)

  • id not like my voice bet i find some thing in the audio that is better than the part i dont like

  • why would u waste ur time putting this garbage on the net. disgrace to phish

  • a better question is why would you waste your time insulting me, clearly a beginner at guitar and enjoying himself. you're a disgrace. in general.

  • awesome.

    btw, chorus is G A G E x2. i think you were playing something with a C in it.

  • hey thanks! I totally want to redo this one, better and with more accuracy - cheers and thanks for sharin'

  • pretty damn good man, and sweet guitar. keep makin' trey proud :)

  • i'm so not used to positive comments on this vid!! thanks man! made my evening! :-)

  • Nice cover, Just lacking the ever elusive Trey Anastasio tone.

  • Kind of you, thanks! And oh, it's lacking so much more than Trey's tone... you're just being nice ;-)

  • 5 STARS. AWESOME JOB...oops caps :D

  • random compliments from randompersonftw :) cheers -- my newer vids are better, imho

  • you've gotta be kidding me... its not even on beat. were you even trying to play to the drums? This is definetly torture

  • doesn't anybody read the liner notes or any other comments before making the same "this sucks" comment?

  • Why put something so sloppy online? I don't get it.

  • It's a diary of my progress. I'm a beginner and wanted to look back, in the future, and see how sloppy I was. :)

  • butchered my ass that was AWESOME! 5 stars!!

  • get outta here! ;-) thanks for that... I'm just happy to be playin'

  • nice job....it DOES make you appreciate the original

  • thanks achmood... appreciate that, and yes there's nothing more sobering and humbling than trying to do what Trey does

  • singing is not your thing...Salted

  • thanks, i know

  • you weren't joking when you say butchered

  • i say it like it is

  • hetty cover man

way to have fun with it

  • hey man, thanks for sharin' in the groove. i was so damn excited to be playing one of my favorite songs... I should revisit this now, as I think I've improved - check out a more recent vid, like "too hip gotta go." Thanks for the kindness.

  • damn there are some angry d bags given u feedback I bet there just ultra heady wook guitar nazis. At least ur coverin a good song unlike 75% of the chumps out there covering nickelback songs. Keep up the good work and if u get a chance check out my san tropez cover and let me know what u think

  • hey man, yeah I get most of my bad feedback on this video, which perplexes me a bit since the WAY I REMEMBER phish fans from my past is that they were generally cool and constructive. thanks for the good vibes, my guitar playing's improved since this video (diary entry). on your san tropez in a moment bro - cheers

  • I don't why the person below me is so negative, but it inspired me to play along with you. I held down the rhythm while you led. Cool. Thanks for adding music to the internet/the world. Keep playing.

    -april

  • I dunno either, he doesn't care for me much, it seems. I'm very glad though, to hear you're sharin' in the groove. I'm pretty inexperienced, but am enjoying learning :-)

  • Experience doesn't matter. I've been playing for over ten years and the more I learn, the more I feel like I don't know.

You've inspired me to figure out some Phish today. I think I'm going to watch you play "Sample in a Jar," figure out what you're trying and then listen to an original recording and figure out what Trey did.

  • You're one of the cooler Youtubers I've met lately. Sample's a great, fun song to play!

  • I just started exploring YouTube as a guitarist. IT's AWESOME! I mean, there's a million people out there figuring out music and trying to teach the rest of the world. What an awesome tool for learning!

I think I'm going to start putting up videos. I can't wait to see what kind of awesome criticism my sloppy playing is going to get. lol...

  • So, you only respond to positive comments? Why are you so arrogant and self righteous about your playing? You aren't very good and you act like you are Clapton.

Don't post your "tutorials" or "lessons" on youtube either, you should be taking lessons.

  • No, I respond to all comments, even jerkish ones. I'm not self righteous about my playing, nor do I act as if I'm Clapton. I'm a BEGINNER who's posting videos about my progress. If you don't like them, don't watch them.

And don't tell me not to post what the vast majority of people who comment say are helpful tips for other beginners.

Now let me ask, who are YOU to tell off strangers and come off like an expert when you have nothing constructive to offer? What good's that?

  • ha! thanks man! :-)

  • Keep up the hard work, you'll get it

  • thanks! labor of love to do this :-)

  • PYITE Greg thinks this is whack

  • tell PYITE Greg I said whatsup

  • the idea is NOT to sound like you're playing Coventry

  • good idea man!

  • YOU SUCK!!!

  • go on, tell me how you feel, lol

  • The tempo of this "cover" is completely askew. I will give you credit as a beginner, your fingering and soloing aren't terrible and I can tell you have put a lot of effort into practicing......but you are completely tone deaf........

    leave signing to others.

You need to work on tempo and chord progression, forget trying to sing....because you can't do it.

  • i'll take it under advisement - thanks

  • oh man,

as a big phish fan, this is just...wow

i could play a better chalkdust out of my ass if i had sufficient gas that day

  • smart comment!

  • awesome video. goob job

  • woohoo! thanks :-)

  • My ears are bleeding

  • sorry to hear it

  • great come back lolol

  • sounds awful

  • ha! thanks!

  • really cool chalk dust torture is a good song, you shoudl get a bass and play it on that too, its a good bass song, play the phish it version, also, i think it would be cool if u did 46 days. nice work!

  • wow, VERY cool comment! best one i've had in a while, thanks!! 46 Days DOES sound like fun!

  • "If I have seen God it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." Keep on playin, keep up the good work.

  • THANK YOU Valerie... i appreciate that. :-)

  • that progressions not hard at all

  • I'd been playing only 6 months when I recorded this. It WAS hard for me at the time

  • Also re work the asccension at the end. It starts on open G not an octave above that

  • cool man, thanks for the suggestion - i'm a beginner and can use all the help I can get :-)

  • Chorus is G A G E7 G A G A G A foo

  • anyone who can spit that progression out like that's okay in my book. i'll work on getting it more solid, foo ;-)

  • Really cool.

  • thanks dude :-)

  • oh yeah and the chords for the chorus aren't C to A its G,A,G,E7

  • cool, thankya - i'm always tryin' to learn
