I saw them in concert 3 times and they always cooked! This version is one of the best. I still like the original too from the Tyranny and Mutation album.
This is the best BOC concert on video I've ever seen. It originally aired on an MTV "Saturday Night Concert" back in the day. I've been looking for it ever since. Thanks for posting.
I'd been in need of a BOC fix for some time, but didn't quite expect to find music and video of the quality here--so available...thanks for posting it!
yes, as a matter of fact i did see the shows with a vast array of lasers. and fireworks. two or three new year's shows plus a few others.
thankfully buck was not wearing a gold toga. :o)
laser light gets super bright when it hits the cloud of smoke in the arena. they had red and green which sometimes made a sheet of light that panned up and down. plus mirror balls. that was sooooo awesome.
back then i heard about one kid having temporary blindness from the red laser and was suing. ??
Hey mrculo262! I was a High School kid in the 78-82 period and BOC Played at the Palace Theatre in Albany NY. They had the laser light show with a bunch of red lasers pointing from their guitars up at the mirrored balls. I cant forget how incredible the effect was and want to share it. Anyone seen any videos of BOC's reported $100,000 laser light show that the Feds shut down?

These guys were no slouches. Rick Downey plays the drums so furiously that it makes you not miss Albert and the five man guitar assault that he was part of.
One of most bad ass riffs ever written. BOC need more mention in the great acts of their generation. Lots of rock bands today could learn a thing or two from these dudes.
Great jammin ! Saw BOC 5 times always kickass. Talked to Buck for a minute at expo 86 music hall Vancouver. Favorite was 1981 with Molly Hatchet and Riot. Not care Riot but Molly shaked the coliseum real good before BOC tore the roof off!
FYI, Rick Downey was a pro drummer for years before he worked for BOC. first as a drum roadie, then rd mngr & light designer. he then rd mngd bands like Motely Crue & Anthrax
Buck's wife made the gold suit... when your wife makes something for you to wear onstage, you wear it... as any married man will tell you!!!
How do I know all this stuff??.. I worked for the band almost 20 yrs... that's my voice doing the intro on this clip...Hollywood fla 10/9/81

A couple things that I love about this clip: Allen Lanier laying down some fucking solid leads on the guitar, Buck wearing that ridiculous gold outfit but being able to pull it off because he's such a badass, and although Al Bouchard is gone by this point, the rest of the band is clearly at a high point performance-wise. Too bad there isn't a clip on YT of this song with all original BOC members.
Saw BOC encore with this song once when Al Lanier was sick and some other guy was on guitar. He was really pushing Buck and Buck was just frying the place with searing pentatonic leads. Good times, baby.
The band was never the same band post the great Al Bouchard. Never had another hit, never accomplished much of anything. He was irreplaceable and Downey, alas, didn't last long. Wonder why.
I may be in the minority, but I really love this era for Blue Oyster Cult. It was unfortunate for the dismissing of Albert from the band, but the show must go on. These guys pull everything off like nothing ever happened. They may not be the best in interviews, but they really shine bright onstage with TRATB. Rick Downey seems to fill in good as the Cult drummer.
Great stuff Billy, great stuff. If there's any video of "Astronomy" in that vault of yours...... "Live 1976" was an embarrassment as far as audio quality goes, & I've never seen a good quality video of "Astronomy" ala vintage-era BOC.
This song is the forerunner of hardcore punk and speed metal

Jesus christ, talk about a victim of time.
Yeah, BOC took a step down in quality every time a Bouchard left the band. They still make okay music, but they've never been /great/ like they were.
