Take off your tinfoil hat for a moment. First of all, the govt can TRY to control what we see on the Internet, and will always and forever FAIL on some level. HOWEVER, on the matter of net neutrality, we NEED them to make sure big telcos do NOT engage in the anti-competitive behaviour they have already demonstrated in other countries that they are capable of. It's not rocket science and if you honestly think they can censor the internet without taking dow the economy, you're delusional.

Gotik is right on. Remember, the ISP's and cell cos are granted government rights to frequency spectrum and to run cable (a monopoly). As such, they are already in bed with the govt. What they actually want to do is charge google et al to provide preferred access to you on your device, the real effect being to make it harder for smaller companies to get presentation to your device. The straight up answer here are bandwidth fees by isp's for users, not controlling access. Net Neutrality is good.

The federal government can regulate a frightening amount of things. In fact, it would take some thorough research to find an area of our lives left untouched by the federal government.

The federal government can regulate anything dealing with commerce (i.e., corporations, businesses) by threatening to withhold funding for states which decline to adopt Congressional legislation (through the Commerce Clause). This is nothing new and has been happening since the inception of America.

Don't just buy it!! They want you to think it's regulation, but neutrality is about making sure two or three companies can't own the net and make all of the decisions. Also, we already PAY for the net. They want us to pay for it AND be able to decide what we can see and who can present content to us based on how much THEY pay. They want to buy back middleman status. Remember long distance charges? They want to create false value again. Net neutrality will prevent that.
