  • It`s so sad that Ian Holm is too old to play Bilbo in "The Hobbit".

  • @MrLordoffantasy Hopefully, we will see Ian as the old Bilbo Baggins narrating, reading out of his book, or just telling his story in the upcoming films !

  • @Bilbo1209 That's EXACTLY what they're doing. It's going to open and close with him reading the book, to Frodo IIRC.

  • @rawkfist208 Yeah, I know !!! Amazing, isn't it ? Also the dwarves will sing this song in the film :)))

  • @MrLordoffantasy Actually, Ian Holm isn't to old. If you read the Lord of the Rings, Tolkien often said that Bilbo hadn't changed at all since he found the ring. So, as he looked in Lord of the Rings is how he would have looked at fifty (when he went off to the Lonely Mountain). That's why, throughout the films, Frodo kept the outward appearance of a 33 year old hobbit, even though he was fifty when he set out to Orodruin. I personally hope they use Ian Holm as Bilbo, for he is perfect.

  • @MrLordoffantasy Unless, of course, you mean the actor himself is too old. But there are stunt doubles for the jumping and springing type of stuff : ).

  • Does the nursery rhyme "Hey diddle diddle" come from this song?

  • @ZombiLibre

    No.

  • JRRT was a fuckin madman. genius. i used to pray that someone would have the balls to tackle jrr.

    ya done good, pj

  • how fucking important was tolkien?

    yep.

  • Haha I love Ian Holm! This song is so awesome. I have to say I was very disappointed that so little of Tolkien's songs and poems made it into the movies, oh well

  • That disappointed me as well. Ian Holm rocks :D

  • this version reminds me of Anime

  • great :D

  • I just finished hearing the radio adaption that this is from, it's brilliant! There's just one thing I'm confused about - there were many songs included in the adaption, such as this one. When other characters sang, they gave a tune to the songs. But both the 2 times Frodo sang, he didn't give tune to them - he just chanted! I wondered if maybe Ian Holm didn't want to sing or something, I'm not sure. Does anyone know the reasons for this?

Thank you for uploading this song, it's my favourite ^_^

  • Actually, I need to make a correction to this: there was just one time in the adaptation Frodo sang with a tune - when he, Sam and Pippin sang "Upon the Hearth" while setting out from the Shire. Other than that, he never gave a tune to his songs. But having said that, the songs sound somewhat cute when he's chanting (especially the one in this video)... It's almost like some really early predecessor of rap...almost lol

  • HAHAHAHAHA

  • @Jianlibao hehehe :)

  • that was great.

  • Sir Ian Holm plays Frodo in the BBC radio adaptation ... and he plays Bilbo in the movies !!! I just used pictures from the FOTR of him as Bilbo, and if you pay attention, you will see that the last picture in this clip is of Ian in 1981 in the studio where they recorded the audiobook !

  • OMG! I have this BBC version on CD, absolutely amazing! (love Ian Holm!)

    :-D YAY!

  • oooh i never put the two ppl together!

i mean i have radio one..

and the films.. i never realised!

    awsome!

i like all the songs in the rado series!!!

  • truly amazing!

  • i like him!

  • I like the anime version of the song

  • I've listened to that audio book so many times, it is awesome!

  • Same here ... :)

  • This is great :)

  • I just have to say to uponthepalehorsetom...Ian Holm plays both Frodo AND Bilbo. He plays Bilbo in the movies, but is Frodo in the BBC version, which, although he uses scenes from FOTR, the movie creator said at the begiining of this clip.

  • Where have you found this?I thought i knew all about lotr adaptations in the past.I had no idea this existed!

  • ian holm is fucking god.

This is a great little thing.Good video showcasing ians involvement with LOTR.

  • Ian Holm did play Frodo in the 1981 BBC radio adaptation.

  • I'm sorry I just have to say Ian Holm plays Bilbo, not Frodo. Frodo is his nephew.

  • pay attention to the vid man. :)

  • Frodo Baggins

  • 1st! :P And I really like this song. I might have been better if you used clips from the movies though.
