hello, am new to VHF radios. just want to ask how long is the range of communication in kms or miles of this radio? specifically from handheld to handheld radio. thanks
Very informative, it would have been nice, if you got more actual receive traffic, so that we could get an idea of the internal speaker's audio quality. My Yaesu VX-7 has a magnesium chassis, I wonder how that Wouxun's plastic case would survive a drop on cement from a belt loop fall, probably, not very well??
@gompus1 The plastic is actually quite well. I work EMS in my county and I've dropped mine once, only to find that it left a dimple on the bottom of the radio. Battery locks in quite well, everything about it works nicely. Two things, Buy a programming cable, and consider a different antenna. My antenna must have barely passed the quality control, the whip is starting to come out of the base, and I haven't even tugged on it. :( AMAZING radio though.
I have just come into contact with this little handheld and am quite pleased, over the years I have had different brands and this one is just as good as any out there, despite the fact that it is totally manufactured in China and carries a Chinese name, I'll just bet that more parts then we can think of in the "name brand" units are made in China.
I can find fault with every radio that I have used over the years so this one is no different, however, I like this radio.
@hlevi3340 there are many websites with instructions on programming these radios. there is a yahoo group that has all the software you need. cheers islandcomms
An excellent review. I'm considering one of these myself. I'm surprised at that because I never thought much of the Chinese handies when they came out.
I'm in the market and look for 70cm coverage as well as 2m and for the price this looks like a decent unit. Sounds like you didn't get any responses to your CQ... :(
i have my radio for a year now and still love mine it work better than my icom radio it also come with dcs witch is so nice. very nice video from scott n2itd/du1
I have the Wouxun KG-699E 4 meter set which is also a nice handie. Non full class licence holders need to be careful of all the Wouxun sets which are PMR units and which are not licensable for use by non full licence holders. Thats the only problem with them. Tempting but could get users into hot water in the UK. Sorry for the gloom and doom. Nice and cheap but surprisingly effective.

There exists a distributor in the UK now, not too far from the price they are going for on a popular auction site as well!

Does this radio have tone scan capabilities or do you have to manually put them in?

@trylleklovn Yup by step you can, I was referring to the normal variable type adjustment normally found and imo much better.
