  • @ThePineappleEater I brought it to the apple store and they basically said, the new ones are over there.

  • Well hard to say. try to load a cd or usb drive and then boot with a copy of mac os x

  • ur hardrive is probably damaged a computer has to boot on some sort of memory

  • Hallo..I have the same problem exactly like you have, but my laptop is PowerBook G4 17 inch...goshh..am now so frustrating, have you fixed yours? If it yes, how did you fix it. Is there anyone can help me out ?? Thank you.

  • Wow that's messed up.

  • unplug it and plug it in again

  • globe: means the mac is confused and looking for a network drive, or looking in your network for its files.

also, i think ur hdds failing. check it out.

  • I had same problem took it to apple Covent Garden cost £172 to sort out .could have fixed my self for about £40 but don't like messing with imacs .That is the great thing about Pc s they are easy to repair

  • looks like hard drive died

  • i was downloading max os 10.7 and i went on my xbox to kill the time , then when i went bakc to my imac it was switched off , i turned it back on and a grey curcle with a line going through it popped upp , and it wont work , ive tried options , command r+p and that didnt work and it seemed to wokr until it went back to that screen and now i dont know what to do , ive only had my imac for 2 days , any tips?

any one can help me on this on. it wont let me take out disc's shift doesnt work. when i hold alt it comes up with 2 hard drives one with my username and the other with recobery HD.

  • Hi I need help ! My Imac Apple won't boot up ! Help me Please !

  • What I had to do was put in my install disc and as soon as I turned on my computer I held down the c key and it work but my hard drive was toast so I installed everything on an external hard drive and now thats my HD

  • Try to hold down alt when you start your imac up. it should prompt you to boot to a disc, you have to click that hard disc.

Hopefully this helps ! It is trying to boot into network mode (i had my MBP do this at the apple store when it was getting serviced)

  • @exposed97 Macs don't use MBR. They use EFI.

  • system is screwy, that's why it was going for firewire network

  • I got two options for you. Either hold the shift key down when you boot and use it like that in safe mode, or reinstall a Mac OS or any other OS.

  • personally i would use windows CAUSE ITS BETTER

  • @mattymanten no its not

  • Have you tried to start the machine up holding the option key down? The flashing globe means the computer is trying to start up using a network disk and no net boot servers are available.

  • What's did you fix my MAC g5 is doing the samething can you tell what was the matter with yours

  • haha good for you

  • it was kinda simple i am a mac fixer

  • i had the same prob but i fixed it myself

  • @1111cyclops how did you fix it bc i have that same problem with my imac g5

  • boot up with mac os x disk then reinstall mac os x, send a message to me if that doesnt work and i might be able to give u some more tips.

  • mac is a piece of shit, regret ever getting it, i was never even a mac fan dont know why i wanted one, i only run bootcamp windows on it and i might as well have saved my money and gotten a pc

  • i have now got just the exact problem whit my 24" alu Imac! and it sucks because i have like 110 gb music thats i have carefully selected since late 2006 and lots of software cracked but still, cs5, logic studio, maya unlimited etc. so what to do? it costs 232 dollars (1500 swedish kronor) to let the macforum take a look at it and if its a software problem the price will stop there but if its hardware then it could cost me thousands of KRONOR! : (

  • heh i got a different picture,

it shows a question mark folder, . i trys several remedy didnt help. probably something borke? imac is a piece of shit

  • Same problem I'm going back to pc for a while but I'll put it in the shop because I have too much music on it to just waste

  • I have a better solution. GET A PC!

  • I have the same model and had the same problem. Try this. Shut down your Mac, then unplug it. Wait 10-15 seconds, then hold down the power button for a slow count of 10. That should reset the EFI, which controls video. Plug the computer back in and restart.

    Good luck.
