@jimphillips95 You and many others I'm sure. For those who find things easy, they often forget how important it is for others to work at a slower pace. Thank you for the feedback, all comments are important especially when they are constructive.
I turned this into a game with my daughter.. I traced both her hands onto cardboard and then cut the cardboard and numbered the fingers. I then showed her how to find the answers to a few questions and she was able to use the cutouts to find the answer. After a shot time she disgared the cutouts and was able to do it in her head, It worked a treat. thanks. !!
yes, this video is slow, but I can't wait to share these techniques with my students! I am so hopeful that this will improve their confidence and ability to multiply! THANKS so VERY MUCH for sharing!!!!!
@lrrichards1218 Thank you for the feedback - you are not the first to suggest the speed is to slow but take a look at how many people it has helped; you are lucky that you can grasp the content quickly - for many it isn't to slow at all.
@anthonygarneau :-) I could but the number of complaints about the speed would, I'm sure, increase rapidly. As I'm sure you are aware I've had many complaints. Thanks for the feedback ;-)
I love when you keep speaking and explaining you are expleining not so fast so the learners of this will not be dstubed by pausing and playing again. Thank you I have additional information about multiplying I am still a student so i needed this Thanks again good friend!
That's really amazing! I'm currently teaching my students the 3's and 4 times tables. I'm going to try this for those students that struggle beyond that. Thanks
thanks for posting this becues i need to learn theme and in thursday we are going to have test about to pratice time tables so i am going to pratice my 3 and 2 4 5 6 7 8 9.
@MrDreadfu1 You and many like you. As I've said many times before, this method isn't the only "solution" but for many it helps build confidence and make progress. Thank you for taking the time to feedback.
@MacFatto Feedback suggests that there are a lot that agree with you; however that are a lot of users that find the pace just right. "You can't meet the needs of everyone!" and I opted to produce it at the slower pace based on my experience in the "classroom" 41 years before you ask! :-)
@silverfox5488 No need; just carry out long multiplication in the usual way - Thanks for making me smile but, as I'm sure you are aware, the example you give can be done just using the 3, 4, and 5 times tables - hands and fingers not needed at all! :-)
@acljohn I agree and accept the notion that not everyone can remember the tables .... however wouldnt it be easier to teach those individuals to simply add the same digit... 9x8 = 8 nines (9+9+9+9+9+9+9+9) ... 8x9 = 9 eights (8+8+8+8+8+8+8+8+8) .... then its one repetitive operation instead of several that will likely confuse those who cant remember in the first place?
@idolkritiq I agree and for many this is an excellent option. It is all about finding the best way for the learner. Only they know if it helps, gives them confidence etc. This method has worked for many learners, and not for others. From 41 years in education, this has helped so many learners, that I have taught (young and old) that were struggling; isn't that what it is all about? Rather than saying one is better than another, face it, one size doesn't fit all; this is one option among many!

@rioriofanfan I'm very pleased for you and hope that everything is equally as straight forward. However I think that sometime in the future some things wont be that easy. When that happens I hope somebody finds a method/explanation etc. that helps you. That is why I produced this - for those who are having difficulties.
I noticed that you kept going from top to bottom. However, since the bottom fingers show the tens, and you write them first, I do believe that it would make more sense to go from bottom to top.
@YTMrVulcan this could confuse some learners if they are showing their working; e.g. units are multiplied 1st and tens carried over to add when the tens are multiplied. I'm not sure I've made that very clear - 6x7 doing it my way initially gives 4x3 = 12 put 2 in units column and the 1 under the tens column. Then the 3 fingers gives 3 tens plus the one carried = 40 Answer =42; your way contradicts this usual way of working BUT yes it works.

@tuaprincessa I'm sorry you don't get it. Perhaps you can get somebody to watch it with you to help you understand it.Of course, if you already know your tables you don't need to worry.
connect your fingers to count as the sample mentioned, All fingers above the connected one are 3 in the left hand and 2 from the right. means 3 multiply 2 = 6
plus (+) all others fingers below (those connected are also included) we have 6 fingers... 2 in the left hand and three in the right one, that means 5, you multiply them per 10 and you will have 50 now makes you count 50+6 = 56
@1996husnain By that, I assume that you turned it off before reaching the end and/or perhaps you know your tables already! Thank you however, for providing the feedback. What would you suggest I can do to make it more engaging. Try to be constructive with feedback rather than just being negative. Being negative is very easy.

@momo11644 Sorry you found it slow but, from my 41 years in education, I've paced it for those learners who find multiplication the most difficult. It gives them time to take it all in.
I love it! I can't stop counting on my fingers now! I will be teaching this to my students on Monday (I have a few that really struggle with these skills and it is slowing down their progress in other areas of math - and knocking their confidence)
This is the most amazing thing I have seen for multiplication! I'm going to teach to my kids. I love the pacing in the video. It was easy to follow, as it didn't go too fast. My kids are going to love this!
@bbmeme2010 The "trick" has its roots in Egypt I believe; I found it has helped many of the learners I've taught - once they mastered this, their confidence increased and success followed.
Awesome! I learned to do my 9's on my fingers back in elementary school years ago. This is the first time I had ever seen this done. Thank you so much for sharing! I can now easily do my 6, 7 & 8!! The hardest ones for me to understand! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
@awesome7083 I always find it sad when people are so negative; this method has been used throughout history and, as such, helped many people. You may be quite right when you say your children wont be able to learn the way I'm suggesting. However if they don't try, you will never know. There isn't a one-size fits all - it is about finding the way for you as an individual. I hope your children find a way that suits them. Thank you for the feedback
a trick for remembering the 9's time table: go up a number on the left side, go down a number on the right side. example: 09, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, etc. notice how the numbers go, like i said, up on the left and down on the right.
very cool, but the delivery reminds me of why it was so hard to sit through a maths class at school even though I was good at it. Maths is great, maths teachers are painful, thanks though, I will teach this to my struggling child.
@jenjen2k10 I'm sure you can pass them. Yes it will take some effort and practice from you but, if you put your mind to it, you can pass. Practice makes perfect and the "buzz" you will get when you pass, will be worth the effort you put in now.
@ChocalateIpod If you are able to learn your tables, then you were right to do so. This is to help those who have difficulties to do what you have done.
@67CAMARO498 Correct. Most learners can cope, in a number of different ways, with tables up to 5x - this is to help with the more complex 6, 7, 8 & 9s as you said in your feedback.
Hey mate, i know you get many comments like this but still, THANK YOU MAN I LOVE YOU SO MUCH I HATE THE SCHOOLS WAY OF MAKING YOU JUST REMEMBER NUMBERS, NOW I CAN ACTULLY USE MATH IN A INTRESTING WAY TO FIND THE ANSWER!!!
Calculator shake to you, if you get what i mean :D!!!
Thankyou! I wish I had learnt this as a child, I'm now teaching this to my 5yr old and learning it myself at the same time :) can I ask if you feel that the chanting or singing method is worthwhile?
@boredmum like most things "one-size" does not fit all; some people find chanting or singing works for them others find it is no help at all. It is about finding what is the best for you, or your 5 yr old, and I'm pleased that I've been of some help. There also has to be the desire to succeed and often, when things are difficult learners often loose confidence and that desire that is so important. The chanting & singing can be fun and if so help.
@milackk7 From my experience it is all about confidence; those who can learn their tables have a confidence which, for those who can't learn their tables, others lack. This results in them quessing, often wildly. This method provides a way in which users can gain in confidence and, if used often enough helps them to learn the tables without having to use their fingers.
@Willowhick56 Most learners have the confidence to work out the lower numbers by repeated addition and/or "chanting". To my knowledge there isn't a similar method for lower numbers.
This method may seem to be confusing, but after a couple of goes it's really easy and extremely useful - especially for those of us who struggle to remember the facts of multiplication. We're all different!
The only modification I have is; I start by counting how many tens I have first (the lower fingers), and then do the little multiplication sum with the top fingers second. This flows better for me. So for 7 x 8 I'll have 5 lower fingers = 50, plus 3x2 on the top fingers = 6 so 56. Thanks!
@andybaldock Thank you for the feedback. A number of learners I have worked with adopt the same method as you. The important thing is to be able to feel confident about the answer, what ever method is used.
I just created a new site that helps students and adults improve their mental math and arithmetic skills with unique and well explained math tricks. Please check it out and let me know what you think. mathtipsandtricks. com
The standards are changing for elementary school and yes 7 yr olds will have to know their multiples BEFORE they get to the 3rd grade. I have some students that are still having difficulty learning them by rote memorization. I have try several different strategies, but I will try this strategy and let you know how effective is was for the students. Thanks. Everyone learns differently, so I am hoping this will help the ones that are still struggling at this point in the year.
I could of done my six and eight tables ten times over in the time it took to watch this video.

My fucken children will die but wont be able to learn as u are teaching
awesome7083 7 months ago
@awesome7083 I always find it sad when people are so negative; this method has been used throughout history and, as such, helped many people. You may be quite right when you say your children wont be able to learn the way I'm suggesting. However if they don't try, you will never know. There isn't a one-size fits all - it is about finding the way for you as an individual. I hope your children find a way that suits them. Thank you for the feedback

I like math multiplication the best
Mrcarey666 7 months ago
a trick for remembering the 9's time table: go up a number on the left side, go down a number on the right side. example: 09, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, etc. notice how the numbers go, like i said, up on the left and down on the right.
fendor18 8 months ago
very cool, but the delivery reminds me of why it was so hard to sit through a maths class at school even though I was good at it. Maths is great, maths teachers are painful, thanks though, I will teach this to my struggling child.

jenjen2k10 9 months ago
@jenjen2k10 I'm sure you can pass them. Yes it will take some effort and practice from you but, if you put your mind to it, you can pass. Practice makes perfect and the "buzz" you will get when you pass, will be worth the effort you put in now.

ChocalateIpod 9 months ago
@ChocalateIpod If you are able to learn your tables, then you were right to do so. This is to help those who have difficulties to do what you have done.

I guess there is no 9x5, 9x4, 9x3 etc..so really this is a way to learn 6,7,8,9,and 10 times tables as there is no way to calculate under 6.
67CAMARO498 10 months ago
@67CAMARO498 Correct. Most learners can cope, in a number of different ways, with tables up to 5x - this is to help with the more complex 6, 7, 8 & 9s as you said in your feedback.
acljohn 10 months ago
Hey mate, i know you get many comments like this but still, THANK YOU MAN I LOVE YOU SO MUCH I HATE THE SCHOOLS WAY OF MAKING YOU JUST REMEMBER NUMBERS, NOW I CAN ACTULLY USE MATH IN A INTRESTING WAY TO FIND THE ANSWER!!!
Calculator shake to you, if you get what i mean :D!!!

Thankyou! I wish I had learnt this as a child, I'm now teaching this to my 5yr old and learning it myself at the same time :) can I ask if you feel that the chanting or singing method is worthwhile?
boredmum 11 months ago
@boredmum like most things "one-size" does not fit all; some people find chanting or singing works for them others find it is no help at all. It is about finding what is the best for you, or your 5 yr old, and I'm pleased that I've been of some help. There also has to be the desire to succeed and often, when things are difficult learners often loose confidence and that desire that is so important. The chanting & singing can be fun and if so help.

acljohn 11 months ago
Does this help you learn to calculate the table on your own - or is it just a calculator method?
milackk7 11 months ago
@milackk7 From my experience it is all about confidence; those who can learn their tables have a confidence which, for those who can't learn their tables, others lack. This results in them quessing, often wildly. This method provides a way in which users can gain in confidence and, if used often enough helps them to learn the tables without having to use their fingers.
acljohn 11 months ago
Is there a solution for the lower numbers though?
Willowhick56 11 months ago
@Willowhick56 Most learners have the confidence to work out the lower numbers by repeated addition and/or "chanting". To my knowledge there isn't a similar method for lower numbers.
acljohn 11 months ago
@myacidsmiles Feedback like this makes the production and posting of the clip all worthwhile. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

Wow, i love it! i had LOTS of trouble with my multiplication, but this really helped! Thanks!
Willowhick56 11 months ago
@Willowhick56 Thank you for the feedback; I'm pleased you found it useful.
acljohn 11 months ago
This method may seem to be confusing, but after a couple of goes it's really easy and extremely useful - especially for those of us who struggle to remember the facts of multiplication. We're all different!
The only modification I have is; I start by counting how many tens I have first (the lower fingers), and then do the little multiplication sum with the top fingers second. This flows better for me. So for 7 x 8 I'll have 5 lower fingers = 50, plus 3x2 on the top fingers = 6 so 56. Thanks!
andybaldock 11 months ago
@andybaldock Thank you for the feedback. A number of learners I have worked with adopt the same method as you. The important thing is to be able to feel confident about the answer, what ever method is used.

The standards are changing for elementary school and yes 7 yr olds will have to know their multiples BEFORE they get to the 3rd grade. I have some students that are still having difficulty learning them by rote memorization. I have try several different strategies, but I will try this strategy and let you know how effective is was for the students. Thanks. Everyone learns differently, so I am hoping this will help the ones that are still struggling at this point in the year.
jellovette 11 months ago
@jellovette Thank you for the comments; I look forward to the additional feedback about how effective it is for the students you have identified.
