AR Rahman is a product of the times, so accordingly he is a good arranger, and a half decent innovator, but his tunes come from Deep Forest, a great deal. In terms of pure genius as a composer, Ilayaraja is in some other league AR has never even ventured into. Raja's melodies are special even after many years because his genius is real. 1000 movies and counting. Robin Uthappa can hit a fifty in 25 balls, but that does not make him a Sachin.

Why is that Indian people always want everything to be certified by americans/Britan people. Don't we have a taste to appreciate the good music....? He has made several Hollywood,Chinese films which made even the best "Rolling Stone" to work with him. His tamil songs are so melodious & so innovative by even bringing 7-year old to perform in his studio. He always looks out for new voices and never depends on big names like SPB,Jesudas and Chitra which was the case with Ilayaraja.

@millions1022 -Keep in mind that Raja lost the market since 92 because of Rahman. Manirathnam,Balachander and even Bharatiraja preferred Rahman ahead of raja after working with the latter for many years. The reason was simple, Rahman brings life to music and it is meaningful music. But, Raja's music is good to hear probably for few years and that's where it would remain. YOU SAID THAT RAHMAN MAY BE THE BEST! WELL, THERE IS NO OTHER WORD WHICH CAN BETTER THE BEST. HAHAHA............

@aruns19991 Few years of journey? Rahman established himself in the year 1992 and going guns till today. Whereas, Ilayaraja started his career in 1976 and went down in 1992 after the arrival of the maestro. Raja hardly does 1 or 2 movies in a year and lost his complete market in the year 1992. Balachander,Manirathnam and several others left him since he lacks creativity. Moreover, He is arrogant and jealous about Rahman which was obvious on several occasions especially during rahman's function

Infact, I still listen to it all the time. When "WE" start understanding and admiring the music and its creativity which brings joy,peace and re-creation in you sometimes, I think that's what i would call the best music. It doesn't mean that the other things needs to be thrown in the trash.

@aruns19991 - A R is very creative in everything he does, He always looks out for new voices and vibes rather than relying on star singers to make the song successful which was the case in Ilayaraja era. Raja hardly had 6 to 10singers with him and never wanted to take a chance with a new voice and lose the no.1 spot. He composed for 2generations with the same set of singers. But, That's not the case with Rahman since he believes in adding value to his music and the movie by being creative

The musicians in US,UK and China realized his potential by signing him up for various projects in movies and albums. Not for nothing he is in demand for everybody in the world market. Rahman is also a master in "Qawwali" in which he is as good as Nusrat Ali Khan. That's sums up everything along with western, Western classical, Carnatic & Hindustani music. Have you heard this song which was played in Toronto awards "piya haji ali" from movie Fiza??? Can Raja compose a song "Qawwali" for a change???

Dileep is at best a pop music composer deriving some elements from various genres of music that he hasnt yet demonstrated any proficiency at . The indian audience is flooded with way too much crap in form of bollywood music that Dileeps music somewhat stands out.
