In many ways -- while other people compared Joni Mitchell to so many other female folk singers -- and critics and fans sang Joni's praises for her work -- which Joni deserves -- it's really Dory Previn who can stand shoulder to shoulder with Joni for original songwriting, innovation, quality, creativity, musicianship and diversity. Yes, Dory never had a solo hit or the following of Joni -- Dory was for special tastes. But Dory is the one I believe was in the same class with Joni Mitchell.
i heard this album in the seventies by a good friend, then forgot about it, but, just remembered it, and i am sooo bludy happy to remember it all over again. so gawjus.
Heard this on Radio 4 Extra ( which has not been changed for the better, as a whole, from Radio7 ) Nevertheless, this programme took me back to many great and happy times. Stil adore this song.
This isn't the version I have, plodding accompaniment, too slow. The original is light and lovely, showing how Dory developed from her intellectual, classical-music former self to a wider, more sensual person. It's not "Going home" of course - another pearl of a song, but then so are Mary C.Brown, Twenty Mile zone, oh, how many, where are today's women song-writers? Only Tracy Chapman stands out for me.
i remeber being a little girl and first hearing the gospel choir at the end, i loved it, couldnt help dancing round my kitchen!!... still cant: :) thanks for posting
i remember being a little girl and the gospel choir kicked in at the end, i loved it! never heard anything like it, certainly made me dance round the kitchen, happy listening! and thanks for posting
@misseymouse You are absolutely right on there Sweetie. Dory's music always hits the spot; it brings back so many REAL life experiences and memories. You're definitely not alone on this one. Blessings !
For many years this has been one of my favourite albums. A friend of mine played it in his kitchen as background music when we were just a couple of teenagers and I have been hooked ever since, thanks for posting

This was an incredible album. In many of the cuts, you can hear the results of being done dirty by her prick of an ex husband, Andre Previn.
