Sorry to take so long to answer . "Stereo Movie Maker" is a free program you can download and fairly simple to use. Takes a little practice but it is better than VirtualDub which I used to make this video. VirtualDub is great, but not made for stereo video. I'll put links in the description.
@13scarfare13 - The video is a parallel method video, teaching you how to watch parallel type videos. If you converge you eyes (lines of sight crossing in front of the image) you will see the background closer. In parallel type videos your eyes must "diverge", their lines of sight crossing behind the image. You are evidently using cross-eyed viewing.
@leefatty1994 Yeah - I aimed to help the uninitiated get the hang of viewing parallel stereo videos, but this technique can even help us "pros" have a better view. Guess what we could use is a pair of glasses with a blind over them to block out what the eye shouldn't see. Basically - a blind spot in front of the eye pupil, so it is forced to look at the correct image and both eyes can't focus on the same image. I'll give that a try and see if it works... Thanks for your comment
@mutchy126 The whole idea of this short video is to demonstrate how to watch a parallel 3D video. The video is uploaded in parallel mode. I did add the 3d tag as a test, and the video was not displayed properly, i.e. parallel video was labeled as cross-eyed and vice versa. Nice trick though! I will employ the tag in any future videos once I learn how to upload them correctly. Thanks!
There are a few 3d videos posted on youtube that have the left and right video sides placed inverted. When they are like that, you get the inverted 3d effect meaning closer objects are far away and the far away objects are the closer ones. I believe this video is an example of that.
This video is shown in "Parallel" mode. There are videos posted as well in "Cross-Eyed" mode. If you use opposite mode to view this video, you get the effect you mention. I plan on making a Cross-Eyed tutorial, now that I have learned that method. I can only use it if I do a trick, whereas Parallel method is more natural for me. Thanks for the comment in any case.
TIP: Zoom out, adjust your eyes to the small video parallel view, then slowly zoom in. To zoom FireFox use ctrl - and ctrl +, or ctrl mousewheel. Reset zoom with ctrl 0 (ctrl zero). Small video is easy to see in parallel.
Thanks for the tip Normandy5! Instead of using the Firefox controls I have been moving my eyes back (and body). Your tip will save me some stretching!
The most important thing for people to understand is whether this is parallel or cross-eyed. You indicated it of course, but then there are people who don't know the difference, so they will have either good or bad results. I can do both methods, but it takes practice.
Good point. I made the video over a year ago and at the time I did not know how to cross-eye view. I have wanted to update that video with a new, more informed one. Thanks for the comment!
Actually I discovered today that it works better on the video if instead of opening my hands I move them forward toward the screen so that my right eye can only see the right image and the left wye can only see the left image.
Fang - Yes, you should be able to merge the two video images into a third on in the middle. Try this. On a piece of paper draw a circle and a "X" about two inches beside the circle. Can you merge the two images to put the "X" inside the circle? it's the same idea.
i think you put each video on the wrong side. it makes your head look like its in the background even though it isn,t and it confuses your brain. switch them around.
I agree- the left/right is swapped in this video- crosseyed it doesn't work but I downloaded it and on my iz3d monitor's 3d movie player I swapped left/right and the 3d effect became correct
nah, if u know how stereo pair works, theres no sumthin wrong bout the position with this video. but, the space between camera are too small and the way he took it was too flat makes this vid flipped or not has no difference or might look better. thats the problem.
thanks! Goatman's bridge is sort of a local legend around here, and no one had their story straight on why it was haunted, so i made that video as an answer to the confusion. Sort of an unsolved mysteries style of telling the most predominant story.
I really like these 3d video's that I've found. I was one of those nerds who really loved the magic-eye books, and then got into early stereoscopic photography. I haven't done any of my own yet....but hope to soon.
Actually cross-eyed allows larger images to be viewed. Now, I have not "mastered" the cross-eyed technique, parallel came sort of natural to me since I had a ViewMaster as a kid. But parallel viewing usually requires smaller images, probable because it is harder for us to "spread" or widen our focus.
Yes - with two different capture applications, showbiz.exe and amcap. But my version of amcap only allowed 320x240 so I recently downloaded the newer version to see if it allows 640x480 capture. I'll have to check out your vids -thanks for the comment!

Al comienzo es un poco difícil lograr unir con los ojos los dos vídeos pero funciona realmente. Fácil con dos cámaras web.

you need to swap between left and right images, you have set the wrong, and that's why the background looks closer than you!

I think cross-eyed viewing feels much more natural as it is within the normal range of motion of the eyes.

@13scarfare13 This is parallel view technique, not cross eyed which makes eyes living in pain in seconds. Parallel rocks!

The clips are the wrong way round. Try swapping them so that the right clip is on the left (and vice verser), it with make it look so much better.

I can -almost- do it, but I keep trying to look at the circle and the x and lost focus from the finger in front of my face, which made my eyes cross
