The bullet looks like shit but the egg is just so real looking. Great job. The only thing is the yellow fluid inside the egg isn't looking like the real thing. It is too dark and maybe the texture isn't good I don't really know. But the overall is looking really great. Awesome job.
As Maxwell Render is an unbiased render engine, there´s no need to work with DoF separatedly, You just need to set the appropiate aperture/focal distance, etc. like in a photo.
Wow. Awesome simulation. I love the depth of field. How much is Maxwell Render? Is it free? It looks really good. Right now I'm working with Mental Ray, which I reckon is excellent.
Thank you! Maxwell is now at 670 euro (with free access to uncoming update, ver. 2.0). Maxwell has really good quality, but needs a lot of time/hardware, and may cause artifacts when complexes scenes (interiors with many lights, etc...). Mental Ray is an excellent render engine too! I love it for complex interiors.

Did you do the depth of field using adobe after effects? If so did you render from maya a Z-axis black and white render?
